Chris Eubanks announced his retirement from professional tennis on Monday, while also leaving the door open for a potential comeback down the road.
The 29-year-old American posted the following on social media:
“If you had told this little boy from the Southside of Atlanta that he would’ve accomplished all that he did, he wouldn’t believe you,” Eubanks wrote on social media. “2 Time ACC Player of the Year? Yeah right. Wimbledon [quarterfinalist]? No chance. An Olympian? Unfathomable. I was given (an) opportunity to travel around the world and form incredible relationships all while fulfilling a lifelong dream of playing professional tennis. I can’t put into words how blessed I have been. Is this absolutely the end?! Tough to say for certain (…) but if it is, WHOOPTY DOO!!! It’s been an incredible ride.”
The pinnacle of Eubanks’ career came in 2023, when broke into the top 100 for the first time in his career at the Miami Masters. Following his quarterfinal run at that Masters 1000 event, the former Georgia Tech standout won the lone ATP title of his career on the grass courts of Mallorca and reached the Wimbledon quarters.
After peaking at No. 29 in the world, Eubanks fell back outside the top 100 by the end of 2024. He played sparingly this season while focusing on what he will now pursue full time: tennis commentating.
