Tsitsipas goes 1-for-20 on break points then trolls himself on Twitter

Stefanos Tsitsipas went 1-for-20 on break points during his 5-7, 6-4, 7-6(3) loss to Evgeny Donskoy in the first round of the Mutua Madrid Open on Tuesday. Tsitsipas converted one of 14 chances–enough to take the opening set–before going 0-for-4 in the second and 0-for-2 in the third.

Donskoy–who once went 1-for-21, himself, in a 2017 French Open setback–eventually pulled off the upset in two hours and 41 minutes.

Still in great form this spring (highlighted by a runner-up showing in Barcelona) and perhaps welcoming a much-needed break (pun intended) for the rest of the week, Tsitsipas appeared to see the humor in his break-point mishaps. The 19-year-old Greek took to Twitter following his loss, posing questions to both the ATP and the Guinness Book of World Records.

  1. Yeah good stuff. He knows what went wrong, I’m sure he’ll learn from his mistakes. The boy is a very likable character, I hope he can stay humble even when he becomes more famous and successful in future.
