  1. Amy, I posted responses to your posts, and frustratingly they disappeared. I think it was my fault somehow. I know you must be asleep and may find this in the morning. I have offered to give blood tomorrow morning. Maybe I will see you here later?

A link to the Tennis Draw Challenge
    http://www.tennisdrawchallenge.com/
There is a simple login. Once you have done that, you will see a menu at the top of the page – choose Group on the drop-down menu, choose My Groups, and pick Jalep_Wildguess group. There are many groups; you’ll find them. What you will do when the next tournaments put their draws up by 8/19 is choose edit bracket. This weekend WTA will have a couple of 250s, Cleveland and Chicago whoopie/not. But I do any bracket (usually), and ATP will have Winston-Salem.
I can’t believe US Open is just over one week away!

It will be so much fun to have you!

  2. Both semifinals were so good!

Congrats to Gauff, and Congrats to Muchova! Muchova is in the top ten where she belongs!

    Cincinnati Final: Muchova vs. Gauff

  3. Big Congratulations to Coco Gauff for winning WTA Cincinnati!
    Great winner speech too. ๐Ÿ†

Congrats to Karolina Muchova for reaching the WTA top ten. Her tennis is beautiful, and it’s a joy to watch her! ๐Ÿค—

      • She is a genuine and grounded person, along with being a gifted athlete. It feels like she is ready to win these big tournaments and perhaps even a bigger one.

        Go, Coco!

          • In the small bracket Challenge group, Jalep_Wildguess, Welshwitch won both ATP and WTA Cincinnati!
She scored 95 points for picking the best ATP bracket and nailed the winner, Novak Djokovic! Anyway, even in the large bracket draw called Moo’s, which includes Big Al, backhand pass, and RC, welshwitch would have been in the top three bracketeers. Congrats to welshwitch! Top marks in the tricky WTA bracket, WW won by 9 points. Great picking, Margot!

            Thanks to all.
Thanks to all who play weekly out of sheer love of picking a bracket! Interestingly, we all had time to finish the 250-point draws of Winston-Salem ATP and Cleveland WTA.

To the missing: I hope to see you at the US Open TDC!

    • Hello Margot,
It’s hard to pick the winner for WTA US Open. There isn’t one who stands out. There are at least several that could win it. ATP could have a surprise winner, but it’s likely between Alcaraz and Novak again.

You won Cleveland by picking Ekaterina Alexandrova to the SF. No one picked Soribes Tormo. And your bracket got you the most points – 23. Congrats again, Margot!
Big Al and backhandpass tied at 17. ratcliff finished with 8 points total.

Good luck picking the US Open, Margot๐Ÿ˜‰

      • Hi Elizabeth. Thanks for good wishes.
It’s probably Carlos or Novak for USOpen, but Danii must have a chance? Think Carlos has a better chance of beating Novak in best of 5, if he holds his nerve. If!
As for the WTA. Ho. Hum. I can think of at least 5 who could, and has Coco’s time come now? Is it fast this year? Big Al usually knows this kind of stuff.

        • Does anyone know how to watch Sky without paying? Have just found out Amazon aren’t broadcasting it. I can’t afford to pay for Sky and definitely don’t want to given my loathing of Murdoch.

          • I don’t know Amy. I probably wont bother to watch anyway, the timing is all wrong for us.
I actually listened to Andy’s first slam win on the radio
            in the early hours!

          • It’s very annoying Margot!
Am seriously impressed with your dedication to Andy listening in the small hours!
Let’s hope he has a deep run…he’s in a nasty section of the draw though..

          • I’m in same boat. I’ve taken out a month’s Now TV before. It’s the only way to watch , but I think you can’t watch replays which is what I usually do. Disappointed Prime or Eurosport aren’t covering

  4. Elizabeth I am sorry for not replying to your posts a week or so ago. I had a,relapse and am still not up to filling in a bracket although it was my intention to do so…
I would definitely pick Novak against Alcaraz for the ATP. Probably would pick Novak to win because at cincy once he recovered from the heat he was definitely the better player. But I still wonder if these extreme reactions to heat or wind as at wimby are signs of aging. Also the crowd will probably be heavily fur Alcaraz and Novak really seemed to lose it at wimby getting into it with the crowd.

  5. As for WTA God knows! Have no idea who I would pick. Momentum seems to be with Gauff but she had a lot of help from Iga in her win. I don’t know how you see Iga’s game right now? Her fh is frequently very unreliable and in opening sets she is regularly racking up huge numbers of ues. She practically donated that first set to Coco given she was up a break multiple times and played a terrible tb.
Elena seems to have a lot of ?s around her form and fitness. Also how fit is Ons? Both had injury issues at cincy.
There are bound to be surprise runs and results.
Who could have picked Vondrasouva at wimby??!!
The Garcia and Sakkari quarters are wide open. Karolina is in Sakkari-s isnt she? Big chance for her. She played a poor match against Coco but has so many skillz…

  6. As for Alcaraz ‘s loaded draw. Many of the threats are in Sinner’s quarter and I definitely think Sinner may not make the quarters and get bogged down in five setters. He is always doing that! Think Med might not make the semis. He lost early in both Toronto and Cincy and seems to be always criticising conditions and the court/ ball.
Novak has a very easy draw and I can’t see any way he doesn’t make the final.

    • Hubie gave Novak a ton of problems at wimby and missed a makeable fh against Alcaraz on mp at cincy. I would love to see him have a deep run.

    • Good thinking Margot!! It’s true that at times I get mad at Rafa with the stress he puts me through..!
Who did you pick Margot? If you don’t mind me asking.. Al picked Karolina M. She is one of my faves..

      • Jumped on the bandwagon and picked Coco to beat Jessica! I know you’ve got reservations about Coco. Karolina is a smart pick though and could easily have picked her or Iga Don’t think anyone actually picked Iga, but may be wrong. Hoping Ons can do it, but alas, unlikely.

        • My reservations have dissipated with the great job her new coaches have done already. Still think she needs help to win a slam ie certain opponents underperforming. But she may get that as both Iga and Saba have been erratic and Elena isn’t fully fit.
It would be wonderful for Ons to win but I thought she had ?s over an injury at cincy as well…
Would also love it if Karolina wins..

  7. Apparently all tennis tournaments will stop being broadcast by Amazon at the end of this year. This is,extremely bad news as its coverage is both excellent and cheap.
It’s not clear who will take over but it could well be Sky. Yuk!
Eurosport will still broadcast the AO and RG and wimby is free on the Beeb. But everything else may be swallowed up by Sky so that I won’t be able to watch it. Depressing. Sky has bought the rights to the USO for 5 years rendering it unwatchable.
It seems from what Al says the Sky coverage is not only expensive but pretty rubbish.

    • That’s really bad news Amy. The coverage on Prime is excellent. Sky is swallowing up the sporting world. I doubt if I’ll be watching much tennis in the future.
Am thrilled Thiem seems to be recovering some form. Draper’s had a tough year too.

      • Yes very bad news for us Margot. I won’t be watching any tennis next year except the first 3 slams if Sky gobble it all up.
It would be wonderful if Dom could make a run but he has Shelton next with the crowd behind him which will be very tough. As for Jack, he’s unbelievably injury prone. Such a pity as he is very talented and a nice guy.

        • Well, the NOW TV is pretty limited . So Ive just taken Sky extension of my Virginmedia contract. Which makes it expensive every month but I can cancel anytime but at least Ill be able to watch the US Open on my TV , record matches and watch later .
Really bad news about Amazon. Great value at 7 quid a month

          • I looked up the cost of Sky sports online. If it isn’t an add on its a minimum of 41 a month and it has to be part of an 18 month subscription.
If this is correct it’s prohibitively expensive.
Feeling seriously cheesed off right now. Prime is so good with great commentators and replays available for days. I pay for it anyway so doesn’t cost me anything.
I like Koenig and Lester as well. Greg does like to talk but he is very informative with tons if technical detail which would otherwise escape me.

    • He is..!
Karolina M goes through easily. Have big hopes for her.
Meanwhile Romeo is beaten by Stricker. Who picked that?!
Romeo going out early isn’t exactly a surprise..

      • Hi amy,
Nice to read you here; I had hoped you didn’t leave because I pressed you a wee bit to join TDF. Sorry, I won’t ask you again, and I hope you are feeling better!

Likely, I won’t be able to watch the matches after I move to Spokane in October. Margot, Spokane is a city about the size of Boise and not where I would choose to move. But my hometown is an hour north of Spokane and close enough to the Canadian border that I may pitch a tent there. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I had a good look at the bracket picks, and thank god Farah Diba, Cami, and a couple of others were back in the Brackets.

WTA bracket: One picked Muchova to win the title, and I picked Vondrousova.
Two bracketeers picked Sabalenka. One picked Gauff, and one picked Rybakina.

ATP: Four went for Alcaraz and three for Novak.

Likely, I won’t have too much time to watch tennis as moving time gets closer, but even if I fall behind, I’ll still try to make time for TDF.

          • That’s weird. I did not mean to be anonymous and have never posted as an anon on Tenngrand.com.

The non-tennis pages are currently filled up with strange posts! I was going to post about my move there but not now.

        • Hi Elizabeth!!
Nice to see you back! My not being around had absolutely nothing to do with you. I am just struggling with my health that’s all. I was actually looking forward to doing a bracket but I am just not well enough.
It’s true no one can post on Mon tennis forum now. We will.just have to post non tennis stuff on the threads. This page is a good place to do so.
Do you mind my asking why you are moving to Spokane? I hope your brother is better now?
Looks like none of us will be watching tennis soon except Al!! We do have Prime coverage until the end of the year so that’s something..!๐Ÿ˜€

          • Vondrousova is a very bold pick!! I have no idea who I would have gone for. I like Al picking Karolina but she played a poor match against Coco at cincy so in several.minds as to whether she can do it. Would be fabulous if she could after all.her terrible luck with injury.

          • TBH Amy I’m not nearly as interested in tennis as I was when Andy was top 4. I like many other sports and I really enjoyed the athletics on the BBC recently. So, am fed up tennis will no longer be on Prime, but not as gutted as I would’ve been in the past.

          • Would still be fab to have the option Margot! I understand how you feel though. Sorry about Andy losing to Dimi. It must be all kinds of tough to have your fave get beaten and struggle against players he would have beaten easily in the past.

          • Yes have just discovered that! If that’s still true then it’s no good.
However next year being Rafa’s last I might still pay.
            Al can enlighten us..

          • Karolina takes the first set after Townsend played a terrible tb. Or maybe Karolina played a fantastic one? She had so many chances to break so Karolina is fortunate to win that set. She would be ok now.

          • I seem to have become a fanatical follower of the WTA! I have so many favourites. WTA is miles better than the ATP now. Unless it’s Novak or Carlos playing each other or Dinner against Alcaraz many of its supposed stars are playing pretty awful: Romeo, Ruud, FAA.. among others.Since the beginning of the Rafa Fed rival way back when I have never had less interest in the ATP. In fact some time before that. I used to like watching Fed before Rafa came on the scene.

          • Hi amy, it’s good to hear you are becoming a WTA fanatic! This is right where the action is – at least until Rafa returns.
My post was halfway done earlier this morning, but I got called away-frustrating. I know it is late for you over there.
I’m happy to see the results today; I’m talking about WTA, not ATP. My early round picking was sloppy, and I didn’t bother to look up the new ones. There are a lot. All I can say is I hope my winner and finalist are correct.

I hope you had a lovely day and you are feeling well.

The match I am most anxious about starts at 7 pm, my time.
Alexandrova vs. Vondrousova ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Both are playing great. We shall see. My WTA bracket could crash and burn!

Commies to those who picked Rybakina for the final.
Ryba became fuel to the fire for Sorana Cirstea. It’s tough to beat the Romanian when she sneaks up on a top seed for lunch. At 33 years of age, Sorana should have a Grand Slam by now; her level can be quite high.

          • Hi Elizabeth!!
Yes I am a fully fledged WTA fanatic!! I like So many of the women players.
Elina just took.the second set against Jess. Are you watching? I have live scores that’s all๐Ÿ˜ช๐Ÿ˜ช
Dunno who will win in that match. Akexandrova has plenty of game. She bagelled Gauff on grass which isn’t easy. Marketa has a good chance to win though.
What happened to Novak against Djere??!! I don’t see that as a good sign for him. No doubt the boy wonder is hitting amazing shots…
