  1. Gauff gets a break, Muchova breaks back and then gets broken again. Until she can get out of that psychological pattern, she’s got no chance.

    • It’s true. It’s frustrating because many of those matches Muchova would have won, including the French Open. Maybe her engine is slow to warm up. And that’s okay if her opponent is a slow starter, too. But Gauff is a fast starter, usually, and lately, her confidence is high no matter who is across the net.

      • Gauff draws a big crowd with many famous sports people: Basketball players, track stars…

Gauff is the current darling of American commies, Margot. Keyes has never had that level of hype. I’m not saying I don’t like her. It’s not her fault that she is so popular.

  2. Margot are you watching the Rugby world cup? I presume so. I am going to watch France versus the All Blacks tonight. Should be an absolute cracker!!
It’s also extremely nice that it’s on ITV free to view after this whole USO Sky misery.

  3. Just seen Halep faces a four year ban for taking drugs. She’s going to appeal but surely this will mean the end of her career if the appeal fails.

  4. I rarely speak for other people. But I can tell you, Simona is a victim in this story. Hopefully time will prove it.
Serena should shut her mouth, considering how they covered her up, otherwise all WTA would just dissolve overnight. Such a disgrace. 8,huh? How about 1 to 23? How many of those won thanks to hydromorphone and oxycodone ‘Champion’? WTA hello?

    • Barbora wins her first title in months. Fantastic news! Good to see Kenin get to her first final in years. Hope she gets back to her real level.

  5. Have been very upset by the whole Simona situation. I still say it’s so completely out of character it’s very difficult to believe.
But the details surfacing about Mouratoglou ‘s staff getting her to take the contaminated supplement are very murky and odd.
I don’t trust Mouratoglou at all. Hope his staff weren’t dosing her without her knowing.
Regardless of whether she is guilty I or innocent the length of the ban is ludicrous. They initially wanted to ban her for 6 years! This is an athlete of impeccable reputation where there is no suggestion she was involved in anything untoward before 2022.
Oh and Serena’s comments are absurd and make her look small and petty.

  6. The subject of Simona Halep is too sad for me to contemplate, amy.

I have not been following tennis since the US Open. But I returned to Boise and turned on the Tennis Channel to see Ostaoenko was in fine form, blasting winners and smashing the ball. Pegula had nothing to keep up with Jelena.
Iga’s win over compatriot Magda Linette followed up that match. It is not exactly a surprise to see Iga over Linette, but Jelena running over Pegula was a pleasant surprise, and I hope the Latvian can keep that going; Jelena looks particularly fit right now.

    • Hi Elizabeth!
Yes the Simona situation is absolutely awful. Have been reading a lot of articles about it.
I haven’t seen Jelena against Jess. I watched Jelena play Kenin at Guadalajara. That was a very good match which Kenin won and I was hoping she would win the title. Not because she is one of my faves but because she has been through an awful time and her talent is That of a top 10 player.
I do really like Jelena but she is so streaky. It exasperates me!

      • Saw Kudermetova beat Iga in Tokyo. Obviously she is playing well at the moment but Iga hit 50 ues!! I feel that Iga really needs to reboot her game. She has lost her aura and looks quite one dimensional atm. I compare her with Rafa because they were both clay courters. But Rafa had more layers with drop shot and slice which is why at her age he has been to 3 wimby finals and won the classic match in 08. Obviously comparisons are invidious but it feels like Iga has got stuck and is not progressing. Maybe she needs an additional coach to bring freshness?

    • Am sure I remember others talking about Borg McEnroe ie Margot, nny, Ramara.
Nny often talks about watching Laver who she was a big fan of. Think Ramara talked about Laver as well…

      • I still haven’t got over that extraordinary piece of information on Amazon coverage that Borg had been to something like 50 finals at 19!!! Incredible!
Big pity he left the game so early..

        • Maybe he was just burnt out mentally at 26. Physically he could have played another ten years . He said something about wanting to have a normal life while he was still young enough to enjoy it. Lesson there.
You’re right there about nny ,Ramara being older than me . I only started following tennis in the late Seventies during school holidays , at least it was better than cricket.

          • Well Mac is always going on about how badly the ATP treated Borg when he wanted to return. If they hadn’t then presumably he would have come back to the game.
I just watched Elena against Saba. Saba doesn’t look great atm. Double faults back. But Elena is a quality opponent. I did think she would win. She looks like she is coming back into the form she showed before she got ill at RG.

  7. Borg couldn’t have handled defeats vs McEnroe, as simple as that, and they we’re coming more often than he would like.
He wasn’t mentally neither strong ready nor strong enough to accept defeats, his later life proved it, his broken marriage, going broke and financial troubles (one pf the reason for unsuccessful comeback).

  8. Bummed that Karolina Muchova couldn’t play the tour finals because of a wrist injury. She has had so many injuries and one can only wonder what her career would have been like without them. Sakkari is no substitute and is very lucky to be playing given the bulk of her points came from Guadalajara when no one was playing and many of the remainder got injured. She has had 3 first round exits at the slams.

  9. Well the wta finals have been a fiasco!
Hoping for a good final with Jess and Iga by far the most impressive players.
Iga seems to have really rediscovered her form since she won in China. Think she will win tonight but I would like Jess to win as she has never won a really big title.
Big pity Muchova couldn’t play rather than Sakkari.

  10. Just seen the score. Blimey!
In G journo made the point that Iga saves her best tennis for the final, and that looks like the case.
    Well done Iga!

    • It’s true Iga plays better in finals.
That was about the best I have seen her play on any surface but Jess was overwhelmed by the occasion and made a ton of ues.
Still, Iga’s bounceback winning China and the finals and rediscovering her serve and fh has been extremely impressive.

      • Saba hasn’t looked very comfortable at #1.
Maybe will suit her better to be the challenger again..
Hope Muchova can recover from another round of injuries…😢

  11. Really bummed that Muchova is out of AO with a wrist injury which she has had since the USO. Given the length of time she has had the injury this really really doesn’t sound good.
She is so unlucky with injuries…

  12. Gosh Elena thrashed Saba 6-0 6-3. Makes her a contender for AO. Coco beat Elina in three sets. I already thought Iga and Coco were faves for the title because I don’t see Saba handling the pressure to defend her title. Definitely add Elena to the mix.
Good to see Elina giving Coco a real match after being out for several months.

  13. Andreeva beat Jabeur, which I predicted. T’ve got her going through a couple more rounds. Woz out too, hardly surprising. And Von crashed, still carrying an injury, I’d guess.
