  1. Hello, Amy!
Muchova took the first set relatively quickly. She is looking good, Big Al! (he picked her to win, and I almost did).
It’s the first time I have watched Wang Xin. or is it Xin. Wang? She has a great backhand. Zhu L. and Wang Y.
Zheng Qinwen is the highest-ranked of them and took Swiatek to the limit.

Muchova has the first set, but Wang Y. has a break in the second set.
Wow, Karo broke back quickly. Get this done in two sets, Karolina.

    • What’s wrong g with Karolina Elizabeth? I am following live scores. Her ues are off the charts this set. She was winning easily before. Is she injured?
Wang has 4 winners to 20 ues!!!! This should be easy for Karolina.

    • Ah ha, Yafan Wang is a tricky lefty. But Karo looks a bit low energy. Muchoova held serve finally, but she appears too casual, or maybe she does not feel well now. Yafan still one break up at 4-3.

Nonetheless, Muchova broke back and is now serving at 4-4. Come on, Karolina!
She held serve for once. 5-4 Karolina, and it’s a chance to serve for the match!

      • Yay, Karolina made it. I’m guessing that it was just a bad day at the office. She had played Yafan before and won.

Such a great line-up of WTA matches today!

        • She will have to play a lot better next round! Her stats for the second set are pretty awful.
Players have gone out of the tournament already playing considerably better…ie Elina who had much better stats against a much better opponent

          • Muchova will take her out, I hope.

Iga vs. Ostapenko play the last match, and I don’t care who wins!! I love Ostapenko!

          • Yes I love Jelena too! It’s so frustrating she doesn’t bring her A game in slams. She has the talent to win another for sure.
I didn’t know she is 3-0 against Iga!

      • You too Elizabeth, but not really “here” just checking scores for WTA and ATP. Like Amy, don’t know what I’ll do now, to watch tennis.

        • I canceled my Netflix subscription and now have Amazon Prime. Margot, it’s too expensive to pay for Direct TV. The only reason I have the account plan is for Tennis Channel. And I can’t afford much else. All will go away.

I will still play TDF even if I don’t have Tennis Channel. Where I will be staying, my roommate won’t want to watch tennis! But I am only staying with him until I get my place – and that goes for if I move to Portland or Spokane. Either place, I will have friends in both cities with Tennis Channel, but not in Sandpoint, Idaho. Something will work out. I can be close to my brother in Sandpoint, which is the main thing. Eventually, I’ll get back to Portland, Oregon, and have access to the Oregon coast and mountains.

  2. Cristea is on a roll. She is already up a break. I didn’t pick Bencic far b/c I thought she had some injury; I don’t remember what new injury, but she has had chronic back trouble.

Suddenly, Belinda seems in the game and focused. She got a break back.

    • Poor Belinda, I know she must have something going on. She would have won at least a set.
Congrats to Sorana Crisrea. She will play Muchova next.

      • Sorry, my spelling is terrible for her last name, Cirstea—no disrespect intended.

I’m unable to keep my mind on the tennis, amy. Thanks for your posts, very much appreciated!

        • Are you ok Elizabeth??
Am happy for Sorana who is wonderfully elegant. She beat Saba in Miami if you remember? That final against Petra, was epic with those super annoying Romanian fans…

          • Hahaha, the super annoying Romanian fans! Stay here and make me laugh, and I’ll be fine. Yes, I remember Cirstea knocked out Saba! I should have a small alter in my home and pray to Sorana Cirstea,

          • That was a super fun final with Petra on fire! But those fans were mindbogglingly annoying! There was only ,3 of them but they shouted constantly and kept singing! Petra’s agent told them off!!😀

          • Kvitova is still my all-time favorite. She knows all about the
super-annoying Romanians from the Davis Cup. But the Czechs had an entire marching band ready to blow your ears off.

    • Yes, on Big Foe I have him making the SF. I have never watched this Hijikata – he must be pretty good to make it this far.

I like Coco, but the hype about her here is arstranomical.

  3. Nole is playing Goho. I have heard of him but have no idea who he is except he is from Croatia. Nole will be the boss. (I don’t really know)

      • I worry about Iga playing an American on center court. When she won last year, I don’t remember if she played an American on her way to the final. She played Ons in the final. Iga complained about how much insulting and foul-mouth hate she got on social media. Someone explained that it was coming from the betting community. I used to post on those feeds when available, and the bettors did get angry when their pick didn’t perform. They have plenty of instructions – you should do this, and your serve is too weak…

        • Woz has a legion of fans in NYC. She is even more popular since she married an American – I can’t remember what sport he played, but it was a New York team.

          • She wanted him to tell her what to do. And he shouted back more shape on your forehand and something else I didn’t catch.

And it looks like the coaching worked for Coco.

        • I don’t remember her playing an American. It’s true it’s a torrid atmosphere which some can’t deal with. I don’t know how Iga will respond. She can get rattled and start making fh ues.

          • Thing is, if Jelena does beat Iga She will probably lose tamely against Gauff and the crowd which would be horrible. So I am backing Iga.

          • Iga is an introvert. And she is no Miss Sunshine like Wozmiacki or a charismatic kitten like Sabs.

She should study Ostapenko who is like a honey badger out there and doesn’t give one ****.

          • Iga has 4 slams at 22! I don’t really think she needs to change. The problem she has had recently is much more technical to do with her fh breaking down..

          • I hear what you are saying, amy. Jelena wins against Iga and the next opponent. She is too tired and has no energy to fight the next battle. And that is why she only has one GS. She needs to improve her cardio and go the distance she did when she was young and unknown.

          • Have to go to bed now Elizabeth. Hope it’s a good match later and Iga wins. I just can’t see Jelena getting back to back big wins unfortunately.

          • And Iga needs help with her forehand. Agree. It seems Iga has won so much while she has technical difficulties. She has yet to sink in the rankings and fight her way back. I don’t think Iga is going away, but she will lose #1 soon. I don’t know what she will do, but I will follow her. Aga Radwanska was against gaining muscle to get more power. But she liked being what she was – the magician.

          • Jelena, yes that would be something she has not done since winning RG.

Get your rest amy, Thanks for making me laugh and feel happy during a tough time. 🙏🙏🤗

          • So Jelena won! It’s not very surprising really given the head to head and how well Jelena is capable of playing. I still fear ‘bad’ Jelena will appear next match. I really really hope not. If she goes all the way I will be very happy and applaud her.

  4. Elizabeth: No, according to Thye Guardian, which I trust, Coco didn’t want the advice she was being given, and played her own game. It worked!

      • I forgot Jelena beat Coco at the AO. Obviously Gauff is playing better now and has the crowd behind her so it will be much tougher. But Jelena won in straights last time so it’s clear she can win. I really hope she does.
Meanwhile it may very well help Iga to lose the #1 ranking and have that stress and pressure taken from her. She should maybe get an expert in to work on her fh.

    • Amy,
Today was awkward and painful. In 2015, the man was just my neighbor, but by 2020, we were inseparable – we were in love. For reasons I won’t detail here, we have parted ways. Add the coming move from Boise and needing to be closer to my brother; it’s a lot. Don’t worry about me, amy. I have navigated through worse.

Back to WTA, I feel delighted that it was Ostapenko who eliminated Swiatek.

Jelena is so much fun to watch. It would be great if she won the match vs. Gauff, not that I don’t like Coco! But I have little belief in Jelena winning. Surprise me, Jelena! If Coco’s time is now, I can accept that.

As for this match I am watching, I hope Sinner can be the winner over Zverev!
But I am falling asleep. Sleep is a priority 😌. I only have one
appointment tomorrow. For sure, I will see Guaff and Ostapenko, even if I suspect Jelena will lose.

      • I know you are tough Elizabeth! But it’s still a lot to be dealing with with so many changes happening all at once. I am not good at dealing with emotional stress. So I empathise with you.
I would love for Jelena to win today but fear she won’t be able to bring her game 2 matches in a row. Then there is the partisan crowd. Don’t know how she will respond. Am super fed up I can’t watch.
It’s really beyond overdue for Jelena to be in the late stages of a slam and to win another. I don’t know what holds her back.
I suspect that Coco is pleased she doesn’t have to play Iga.
Novak had better dispatch the Cart Horse!!!

  5. So Jelena has hit 1 winner to 11 ues. Horrible stuff. This is why I said I hoped Iga would win because Jelena would come out next match and play awful.😠

  6. Is Jelena going to win a game? This is truly embarrassing for a GS quarter final.
Have had enough already. Have said it before : Jelena needs a psych coach.

  7. Just seen Jelena lost easily. Was pretty obvious that was going to happen after the first few games.
Jelena is one of a number of women players who are fantastic when on but terrible when off. Who seem incapable of going to plan B and extending the rallies and grinding through poor form. Petra is the same. She was literally driving me insane at wimby with her awful play and refusal to adapt her game plan.

  8. Novak does his bit and defeats the Cart Horse in straights.
The official USO site had the win probability at 54% for Novak and 46% for the Cart Horse.
If the Cart Horse had a 46% chance of winning I’m Donald Duck!!

    • It was a great match! 😆 Cart Horse
Novak is 8-0 vs. cart Horse

US commies want Cristea to win. They decided it would be better for Coco to play Cirstea than Muchova. Both Cirstea and Muchova are capable of beating Coco.
      Matchpoint Congrats Karoline Muchova!

      • Maddy is my favorite personality of the American players – I was not expecting her to go this far. That said, I am still for Marketa, even though the oddsmakers are favoring Keys. Seeing how Marketa deals with Maddy’s power game will be interesting.

      • So Karolina won easily. I really hope she is going to play well in the semis. She really didn’t play well in the cincy final with lots of ues

        • Anyway! Karolina is my fave player left to win. I do like Maddie but she has to show up today! She definitely has the game to win if she does so.

        • Actually it must be quite something dressing as a giant orange carrot in 30+ temperatures….! Then you have all the jumping up and down constantly shouting support…

          • Can’t afford it!! No need to remind us what we are missing!
Does Tennis TV cover WTA? Margot thinks it doesn’t. I may pay for it anyway next year as it is Rafa’s final year.

          • I keep checking tennistv, but they don’t have WTA.

What a horrible scene. It’s too hot and humid in NYC to enjoy watching the match.

Don’t they have sufficient air conditioning with the roof closed?

  9. Just read the Graun live blog. Apparently Meddy just said ” one player is going to die and they will see” referring to the heat and humidity. Meddy really is the best value player in tennis for pure entertainment value. My faves are his sarcastic Roman emperor style thumbs down and his complaints.that the court is not really a hard court..
    Come on Meddy!!
