  1. I expected Kudermetova to win that first set, and she was serving so well and taking the ball early. It was close.

Kalinina is wearing Iga’s shorts πŸ˜€ Nike Cap and Asics tee, all understated. Zero Glam.

Kalinina with a breakpoint and gets it. Veronika was unraveling during her service game, and she needed to break right back. Her husband looks stern and quite a bit older than Veronika. Veronika can hit some unreturnable; I don’t know the ace count, first serves, but her second serve is a duck today.

Kalinina attacking Kudernetova’s forehand with success. Her strength is her backhand.

5-4, and Anhelina will try to serve for the match. But like the first set, Veronika breaks Anhelina’s serve, and it’s 5-5.

Momentum shift, and Veronika is stepping in. She takes the 2nd set. Kudermetova was favored to win.

    Come on, Anhelina!

  2. Kalinina removed the cap and changed her shoes, hopefully, socks too.
And she has won the last 16 points, according to the commie.

Up a double break is good!

  3. Roland Garros time πŸ˜€

Two Russian players think they could be dangerous.
    1) Is anyone familiar with Diana Shnaider, aka Marina Shamayko (her name on the TDC bracket)?
    2) Mirra Andreev is the other; she will be playing Alison Riske in the first round; I picked the 18-year-old over Alison Riske. I saw the feisty younger sister, age 16, playing in an Austin, Texas, challenger. I have not seen Mirra play, but she came through RG qualifying.

I’m staying with Iga over Aryna FTW.
I am hoping for some great tennis!

      • Oh wow RC!…would u believe i was just thinking about asking u & M about Mirra Andreeva & her possibly 2nd rd opponent Anhelina Kalinina & then WHAM BAM! here u r talking about Mirra!…wooohooo!!..what a chemistry!πŸ˜„

Btw…it’s a shame she has to face Anhelina so early right?I want both of them going far!..it could be better(for me) if she were to face Ostapenko for example!so it’s easy for me to cheer for her!..oh well!

        • Hello Mira, so nice to see you! I hope you are well.

I have not seen Mirra Andreev play! It was her sister Erika that impressed me. I know I don’t want to lose track of you! It causes me to keep you in mind. Yes, I thought long and hard about Anhelina facing Mirra Andreev. I was glad it was not Erika. Erika is dangerous! I like the Andreev sisters, but not to get a win over Anhelina Kalinina; I felt so much love for her playing how she did in Rome. She is very brave and strong.

hahaha Ostapenko, I picked her deep, too deep as I have before! She is my favorite to watch when she’s hitting the lines, and her serve is more on than off. πŸ˜€

          • Mira, I have seen your picks – Yes! You picked Ostapenko the same way I did. But you know then that she will probably be the deer in the headlights when she sees Saba across the net!
Other than that, it won’t work for her in a couple of other ways. 1) Kasatkina has to remove Vondrousova! Jelena will make quick work on Kasatkina. 2) Jelena will likely face Garcia, also an obstacle.
Did you check h2h? I didn’t, yikes! You must have because picking Ostapenko like me is dangerous!! πŸ˜€

    • Are you talking about Sharapova’s screaming? It was too hard to ignore. Karolina doesn’t use a scream to intimidate the opponent. When they met, it was; come on, Karolina!

  4. I’ve just been reading about the rotten and appalling treatment of Kostyuk who was booed for not shaking Sabalenka ‘s hand.
Really honestly the French crowd is disgusting. I castigate my own country for many things but that would never happen at wimby. Quite the reverse.
I think I have had enough of Sabalenka and hope she loses.
I was already disgusted by Azarenka’s comments about Iga when Iga said tennis hadn’t done enough about the war. Azarenka dismissed what she said and said Iga should come talk to her. What a nerve!!!
Iga has a thousand times the humanity of Azarenka. And I am becoming fed up with Sabalenka and her boo hoo poor me attitude saying people hate her. She seems a very shallow and manipulative woman.

  5. First set Dasha! Dasha, bless her, is the opposite of Azarenka, and Sabalenka. Publicly denounced the war. Took many risks. Said her feelings should never be compared with those from a country under genocidal attack.
Also, there were huge demonstrations against Lukaschenko and many were killed. Neither Azarenka or Sabalenka did anything to distance themselves from him and did nothing to support their compatriots. Something like 80% of Belarus was opposed to him and voted against him but he sent in his thugs and wouldn’t leave office.

    • The post I was writing had too much for someone to take; it was political, and Woosh, it was gone.

I can only say I agree with you, amy. It is brutal for the Ukranians full stop.

        • Posts do just disappear Elizabeth. Doubt extremely it had anything to do with Ricky. People regularly complain of posts just being eaten up. Many are just anodyne and just tennis.
The French crowd really is despicable.

          • The night before the match Kyiv was under huge attack from 54 Iranian drones and Kostyuk was woken with the news at 5am. Her father and grandfather are still in Kyiv. Right now Kyiv is being attacked with ballistic missiles.
And she gets booed by the idiotic cynical in it for themselves Parisian crowd!
            Just disgusting.
And much of what Sabalenka says to justify herself is simply factually incorrect. It’s just rhetoric.

        • It did it again! Another post replying to you! I will try again but say I am sick to my stomach when I think about what Kostyuk, Anhelina Kalinina, Svitolina, and the Ukrainian players must go through.
          Testing…

          • I want to read your posts Elizabeth! Very annoying!
I am absolutely furious when I think of what the Ukrainians have to endure…

          • Hi Amy,
I didn’t save the link to the Ricky post he wrote about the potential winners/
            Top Half WTA RG Today
            SF
Ons Jabeur over Haddad Mia in 2 sets.
            SF
Seiatek over Gauff in 3 sets.

  6. Oh no, I fell back to sleep, and Haddad Maia is up 4-1 in the decider. Ons, what are you doing? Here’s another break point for you. Take it! Nope. Back to deuce.
4th bp, Ons, come on! She doesn’t look nervous. Nothing is wrong with herβ€”another BP.
    I give up.
    Congrats to Beatriz Maia Haddad!

      • It’s a good draw in Warsaw if you like WTA and don’t mind if Sabs isn’t there.
I watched the Muchova v Sasnovich match and something Sasnovich and got the second set in a TB. But she was over at her coaches, almost in tears. IDK, her tennis was silky smooth, and whatever bothered her didn’t stop her from winning the match!
Wimbledon Champion Martincova won her match too. Iga is going to be on soon. I will try to watch her match.

I didn’t want to mess up the Carlos thread more than I already did, so I’ll post WTA here.

        • Oops, I Meant to say, Sasnovich got the first set, but something was bothering Muchova….anyway, Karolina won the 2nd set and the match. For much of the second set, she was close to tears. I have no idea why. Her tennis was as beautiful and smooth as ever.

  7. Only seen a small amount of tennis since wimby. All WTA. Watched my new fave Elina in her matches. Was bummed she lost to Pegula but Pegula played very well in the second and third sets. Elina had 5 bps in one game in the third with several rallies on her racket but couldn’t hold it together mentally. I was a bit disconcerted by this but not sure it means much.
Elina lost 3 and 0 before wimby to someone I have never heard of and still made the semis.

  8. Watched some of Marta’s matches. She played well against Andreescu and Garcia but Garcia played terrible.
Have sod all interest in ATP at the moment.

    • On that note am very very glad we have Toronto WTA starting tomorrow. Must go look at the draw.
This is a chance for Iga to add points and hold off Saba.

          • You too Elizabeth!!πŸ˜€
Am feeling rubbish beyond belief today so can’t do a bracket…( It’s because I got little sleep. If I don’t sleep well I can’t function).
Elina has Sakkari second round. Could be winnable.
I feel like Iga is going to do well this tourney. Think she is going to add a good haul of points.

      • I hope Iga does well in Canada. But she has a difficult draw. The good news is that Muchova is part of the difficulty. 😊

About Sabs, I have her to the final with Muchova beating her pants, as Mira Andi might say.

Do you mean you are filling out a bracket, amy?!!

  9. It occurs to me now I am for Maria. Coco is going to win, I think. Both of them could use a title.
    4-0 Coco. Hope its not a blow-out!

      • At first, Coco was leading. Then Maria started to play well but was not aggressive enough. She came out with a plan to beat Pegula yesterday. Did up you see the match yesterday vs. Pegula?
I am quite proud of Maria for fighting to get the 3rd set and win over Pegula!
This match looks different. Maria seems a bit tentative and Coco is the better player so far.

          • Come on, Maria! She briefly had a set point and has another sp. Maria gets the break. Coco assisted with a terrible drop shot.
Serve held by Maria. Much better start by Maria 2nd set 2–0 Narian

        • I didn’t see her play Pegula. Have only watched matches involving Elina and Martha!
I thought Pegula was much more likely to play well in the final. Maria is very unreliable and gets nervous.

          • Pegula was trying hard, but in the end, it was a little surprise to me that Maria won. But Maria was my bracket pick to win DC! Out of the blue came the thought. Pick Sakkari, she is due.
Not sure she wins here but my runner-up pick was Coco. It was about two players that should be winning.

If they get into long rallies, adv. Coco
Yesterday the long rallies went to Maria, not Jessie.

  10. 2-2 second set.

Maria breaks back 3 -2 Sakkari
She needs to keep a lead and win this set. Coco tightened up and had DF and bad serving moment.

  11. Bad serving from Maria/
    Coco gets the game 3-3
    Maria is hitting errors.

Coco holds now 4=3 Coco. Maria was out of sorts that last game.,]

    • This will be Coco’s biggest title. Maria seems tired. Her serving is tired, that is.
Standing ovation for Coco 5-3 serving for Title

  12. According to Amazon Elina is playing Maddie in her first match tomorrow. It didn’t say that in the draw I looked at…very tough opening round for Elina.

      • I wish you were here with me, amy. Margot, Mira Andi, and Alison, too.
All I can do is tell you my Racket Bracket Draw Challenge still has Elina playing a qualifier, and yes, Maddie is playing Venus.

I have Maddie beating Venus, Vekic, and Pegula before losing to Gauff.
I’m counting on Coco having a boost from winning Wa. DC. Coco will make the SF and lose to ? In the SF.

The bad thing about TDC Tennis Draw Challenge is how long it takes them to add the qualifiers and update correct picks.

I use the Live Rankings website https://live-tennis.eu/en/atp-live-ranking because they have the current tournament draws, ATP, and WTA.
        For Montreal – https://live-tennis.eu/en/wta-singles-draws
        and Toronto – https://live-tennis.eu/en/atp-singles-draws
Or, I check ATP and WTA pages for the draws

The point is placing the qualies before the draw closes.
Elina is playing a qualie but will try to find out which one right now!

      • amy,
I posted a lot of info with my favorite places to find where qualies are placed in draws before TDC gets around to placing them in the draws.
But my post got taken down for moderation and I do not see it now.

I know nothing about Amazon having a tennis bracket challenge.

      • Bianca Andrescu will play qualifier Camila Giorgie. It is tempting to pick Georgie, but I will stay with the often-injured amazingly talented Canadian, Bianca Andreescu.

        • Are you able to follow Cincinnati, amy?

Our newly minted Wimbledon Champ is doing well. I hope Iga can get by Qinwen Zheng; I’d like to see Iga play Vondrousova!

I need to cleanse my mind (not sure how). I have too many biases, especially picking ATP and my brackets and s**king.

I hope you are doing well πŸ‘

Did I read somewhere that you had joined a bracket challenge? TDC?

          • Hi Elizabeth,

Yes I am watching! I have been hopping between matches. Have been following Muchova’s matches as I am a fan of hers now. I love her skillz. I watched her beat Maria.
I didn’t fill in a bracket in the end. I need a link to get to your group anyway…

          • What’s wrong with Meddy?.Also really honestly so many of the top 10 in ATP are severely disappointing.
Iga,has turned things around against Zheng. But she has so many issues with her fh this year..

  13. Elina had to withdraw with foot pain she has had since wimby. Hope she will be ok for USO. I watched Gael play Demon yesterday. He is a different player now..
