    • Ricky fills in brackets. Think it’s maybe at the slams rather than on a weekly basis.
He set up a tenngrand bracket during one of the slams several years ago.

    • The last match Daria won was in Charleston against Madison Keyes. She outwitted Madison with junk balls and guile. Daria is not at all a power player. But she has been in the top ten, I don’t know, but it seems like a long time. It was a guess that she would not find that brilliant game in Stuttgart vs. Badosa. I had trouble picking the winner; I’m not sure why, but I couldn’t choose Iga or Rybakina, and the winner probably will be Sabalenka, but she annoys me right now.

Maria won her match against a Swiss player I had never watched, In-Albon.

I wanted to see Ostapenko vs. Raducanu, but I have a meeting.

      • Ostapenko played like it was FO 2017! Poor Emma didn’t have an answer. Jelena was stepping in and returning every ball. It was a joy to watch Ostapenko. I’m happy I recorded the match. The other match I watched was the last one of the day, Krejcikova vs. Samsonova. It was terrible for Samsonova, and she had nothing today. Barbora K. swept the Russian off the court.
        6-2 6-0.
Donna Vekic was at the Ostapenko match. She was smiling and enjoying the tennis like an Ostapenko fan. Vekic gets a day off then she will play the winner of Pliskova/Sakkari.

My pick to win the title is Ons Jabeur, but she will be playing Ostapenko next. Oh boy, not sure about the winner of that match. Ons Jabeur can do better than Emma Raducanu. It should be an interesting battle on Wednesday. 😀

        • Ostapenko played brilliantly for a set and a half but Jabeur fought back to win.
The fluctuations in form by Jelena are quite strange…

          • Yes, Ostapenko’s fluctuations are strange. She had an easy win over Raducanu, but Ons Jabeur was next for the Latvian, and Ons Jabeur lost the first set at some point in the second set; Ons must have declared to herself, you are not going to win this, Jelena. We saw this Ons in Charleston vs. Belinda Bencic. This match was similar to the one in Charleston, and Ons got red in the face, dug in, and won. That is why I picked her to win the title here. The only thing stopping Ons would be another injury. Her determination and fight have been incredible to watch!

          • It’s true that One showed a lot of stubbornness and will power. But she also has weapons ie her slice and that wonderful drop shot return.
Jelena lacks self belief so that after a setback her level really drops. When she is on she hits an amazing ball. It would be good to see her maintain the level.she is capable of across a whole match when she has to fight a determined and skilled opponent.
Raducanu offered her very little resistance so it was easy for her. At one stage Jelena won four games in a row without Raducanu winning a single point!

  1. My choice to pick Caroline Garcia worked for one match. But her draw for Stuttgart didn’t look that bad. I picked Caro to win over Maria T. and Potapop. I can’t watch the matches, but I follow the live score, and Caro dropped the second set to the Russian. I googled, “What is wrong with Caroline Garcia,” and immediately I found out she struggles with bulimia, dang it (maybe something physical too). Bulimia is hard to handle, but if that is the problem, it is difficult to be consistent. I feel bad for her, as I know how tough it is. I hope she gets her help and support and can stay strong and fit. Bulimia is a beast. Sorry to mention this if it’s all old news to you. I had no idea. 🙁

      • Sorry Caroline lost. I like her and she seems to go in and out of form.
Didn’t know about the bulimia but it tends to go with someone who is emotionally fragile.
Never been a problem for me thank God but a lot of women suffer from it.

    • More sorry…
The Madrid list was supposed to be in that link!

But I shortened the link too much, I guess. and the list did not come through. So I don’t know about Ons. Maybe she needs more time off and will skip Madrid and/or Rome. She really wants the French Open title.

  2. Karolina Pliskova was playing very well in her match vs. Iga. She took the first set fairly quickly, and Iga fought back and won the match in three sets. Iga looked a bit rusty to me, especially her serve.

  3. A great win for Iga. Put down a clear marker today that she is the one to beat on clay.
High quality first set but Sabalenka fell apart a bit in the second. Although a large part of that was due to her inability to hit through Iga so she kept going for miracle shots.
Iga seemed to have no physical problems today although she still keeps blowing her nose. Surely allergies?

    • Hi amy,
That is a good description of Igalenka. I am so happy Iga got that win. Aryna gives Iga no respect with all her eye-rolling each time she misses. Arynka also overhit many balls in the first set; she knows she should beat Iga and can’t control herself. I am watching my DVR recording of the match and have not seen the second set yet. That Petchie commie drooling over Sabalenka…he is the worst.
Finally, Petchie man compliments Iga. Iga broke Arynka to start the second set and held. Iga has some crowd support in Stuttgart.

Aryna played better in the second set, but Iga kept her lead.
And Iga’s nose is still running; you are right; it has to be allergies. I have the same – except I can’t stop sneezing. Sabalenka tried hard to get the break back, and she was progressing. Aryna hit Iga with the ball (Petchi said it was deliberate). I thought Arynka did it accidentally as she couldn’t do a better shot, lol…it made Iga play better in that game. 😀
Iga has a big 🎯on her back, and I’m happy she has a sports psychologist on her team. Iga could use a bigger first serve or work on both first and second serves. Sabalenka couldn’t take advantage of the slow second serve, and it seems like Rybakina did at Indian Wells. And Barbora Krejcikova certainly did. But Iga held serve like the Champ Iga Swiatek is and served the match out at 5-4 to win the match 6-3 6-4.

I am proud of Iga! I wish she could play without the baseball cap, but what do I know? Maybe it is a lucky hat,

      Excellent match, Iga; well done!
Congratulations on defending your Stuttgart title. Have fun with the new Porsche. 😀

  4. Congrats to Iga, beating schreecher!
Yes, hay fever dreadful this year.
Petch is awful Elizabeth 🙁 Wont use 5 words when 35 will do, that dreadful over florid language and every cliche in the book. Can’t stand his delivery either, awful droning voice.

  5. Congrats to backhandpass on winning the WTA bracket!
I was rooting for your bracket since you had Swiatek winning.
Curious to know if you are a fan of her tennis or simply believed she’d win.

It’s tough for me because I am such a fan of her tennis. It’s one of those ‘too good to be true’ feelings, so I could not pick her to win. She keeps on winning into 2023; she is a great talent! 😀

  6. Rome QF
    Rybakina in 3
Swiatek has lost to Rybakina twice this spring. I hope I am wrong, but Elena will do it again unless Swiatek has found the answer to reading the Rybakina serve.
    QF #2
Badosa vs. Ostapenko h2h is 2-1 to Badosa, but Ostapenko is blasting her opponents off the court in Rome. It’s tempting to pick Ostapenko, as she is in good shape, and two sets are not too much for her. Even going three sets to get wins over Cirstea and Kasatkina, she looked strong. Her other win in Rome was over Krejcikova. It is an impressive performance from the Latvian.
The safe pick is Badosa in 2.

  7. It’s Ostapenko time, but I am on the edge of my couch waiting and hoping the outcome is not too dramatic. Middle of the third set Jelena leads by a thin break.

Pretty sure Paula would rather play someone else.

  8. Wow, that was fast. I was only away from the tv for a few minutes, and Ostapenko won the match!

Congratulations, Jelena, and good luck in the SF 😀

    • I’m surprised. It looks like Elena is trying too hard and missing. Iga didn’t do a lot to get three games up. Maybe Iga is going to lose her serve here. And more help from Elena. 4-0 Iga.

Elena was playing nervous tennis to start, but I think she finally held serve efficiently. I was reading a lot about how Iga has propelled players like Sabalenka, Pegula, and Rybakina to work hard on their fitness, and the goal is to beat Iga. As it was after Barty retired, Iga was already putting the hard yards in before she won RG the first time. It was wake-up time, or Iga would continue to collect the trophies.

I like it. The quality of tennis has become what it should be in the WTA. Of course, I am all for having best-of-five-set tennis in the WTA in slams, just like in the ATP.

    • Whoever wins will get the boss Ostapenko! I hope Ostaspanko can keep the roll going to the final.

After reading and understanding Sabalenka’s motivation by saying that’s enough, Iga, I get it. I am proud of Iga, and I don’t want her to stop her, but her loss is inevitable when the others get going. What I didn’t like about the WTA was when it was one or two players taking all.

Aryna admits Iga is in her head when she trains. 😀

  9. I called it Rybakina in 3. Strange match: Iga started okay, but Elena was not playing near her best. Then Iga twisted her leg, had a medical time-out, and seemed to be okay, but she wasn’t; next thing I knew, she was retiring from the match in the third set. Bam, that was it. I hope she didn’t injure herself too severely. We shall hear what happened sometime soon. Let’s hope. Meanwhile, Elena finished strong.
Congrats Elena and good luck in the SF with Jelena Ostapenko!

    The SFs look great:
    Kudermetova vs. Kalinina
    Ostapenko vs. Rybakina
They get a rest and play on Friday
😀 I will sleep on it. Not sure, but I think Rybakina will win the title.
Ostapenko could crash the party if she plays like she did all last week.

It would be sweet if Anhelina Kalinina could win.

Hi Guys. I’m sure you’re thinking about what happened last night. We’re checking it. During the second set I got a thigh injury. The diagnostic is in progress. More info in the following days. Will keep you updated.

It was on my Twitter feed. and my reply went through. That’s a first since Elon Musk took over.

  10. Beautiful ball striking by both Kudermetova and Kalinina.
No grunting, easy on the eyes and ears.

    Both have husbands coaching.

  11. Kalinina is tall, 5’11 would like to see her vs., Rybakina.

    Kalinina breaks.

Dang it, Kudermetova breaks back. 5-5 first set.
