The new ATP rankings following the Australian Open were made official on Monday.
Tommy Paul, who advanced to the quarterfinals at Melbourne Park, is into the top 10 for the first time in his career–registering at No. 9 in the world. The 27-year-old American entered the season at No. 12 and was No. 11 going into the first Grand Slam after reaching the Adelaide semis.
“I think he is somebody that is quite a smart player,” Alexander Zverev said of Paul prior to their quarterfinal match, which the German won in four sets. “I think he is somebody that can change tactics quite a lot when he plays tennis. He can mix up his serves a lot; he can mix up his groundstrokes a lot. He can go high with the forehand, can go faster, use a lot of backhand slice–just shorten the points (or) make them longer. He can do everything on a tennis court.”
Joao Fonseca, one of the other stars of the Australian Open, broke into the top 100 after qualifying for the main draw and famously earning a place in round two with a straight-set upset of Andrey Rublev. The 18-year-old Brazilian, who lost to eventual quarterfinalist Lorenzo Sonego, is 13-1 in his last 14 matches dating back to the 2024 NextGen ATP Finals.
“I’m excited to join the Top 100, play the big tournaments, get my place in this environment and keep working to go bigger,” Fonseca said during the Aussie Open. “I think for me, in my opinion, the sky’s the limit. You need to work more and more to reach your dream, which is to become No. 1.”
Other players in new career-high spots following the festivities Down Under are Arthur Fils (19th), Alex Michelsen (36th), Jake Fearnley (77th), Learner Tien (80th), and Francisco Passaro (90th).
Semifinalist Ben Shelton moved up to No. 14, while quarterfinalist Gael Monfils climbed to No. 32. Sonego soared 20 spots to No. 35.

If Djokovic can get back to number 3 and hold that position for another 12-18 months, he should be happy. It’s a realistic goal for him if he still wants it.
Take good care of his health, know his limitations and he will get his chances.
