Draw for Olympics revealed, Nadal lands in Djokovic half

The Olympic men’s singles draw was revealed on Thursday morning in Rio de Janeiro, and world No. 1 Novak Djokovic has a rematch of the 2012 bronze-medal match on his hands right off the bat. Djokovic, who lost to Juan Martin Del Potro at the 2012 London Games to just barely miss out on a medal, will face the Argentine again in Rio.

Rafael Nadal, meanwhile, is making his first appearance since pulling out in the middle of the French Open with a wrist injury. The 2008 gold medalist is not shying away from a heavy workload in Rio, where he is set to partake in all three disciplines–men’s singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles (with Garbine Muguruza). Nadal will open with Federico Delbonis before possibly running into David Goffin in the quarterfinals and Djokovic in the semis.

No. 2 seed Andy Murray captured gold at the All-England Club in 2012. He will open against Viktor Troicki, with potential early-round meetings with Juan Monaco and Benoit Paire also in the cards. Possible quarterfinal adversaries for the Brit are David Ferrer and Steve Johnson.

In the other section on the bottom half of the bracket, an in-form Gael Monfils is on a quarterfinal collision course with Toronto runner-up Kei Nishikori. First up for Monfils is Vasek Pospisil, whom he recently crushed in the Toronto second round.

The Frenchman snagged a top-eight seed (No. 6) thanks in part to the withdrawals of Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka, and Tomas Berdych. Because of the depleted field, Americans Steve Johnson (12th) and Jack Sock (14th) comfortably moved into the seeded range.
