Del Potro adds to list of incidents during Basel win over Haase

Juan Martin Del Potro may be one of the nicest guys on tour off the court–and usually on it, as well–but he has never been afraid to deliver some choice words to opponents either under his breath or to their faces.

Another incident took place at the Swiss Indoors Basel on Wednesday, when Del Potro scored a 6-3, 6-4 first-round victory over Robin Haase. The Dutchman had suffered an apparent hip injury in the first and Del Potro did not like it when Haase broke back for 3-3 in the second set despite often limping in between points.

The Argentine, using his native Spanish, complained that Haase looked injured in between points but was still saying “vamos.” Del Potro accused Haase of faking and then made a reference to a certain body part of his mother from which Haase came.

  1. Hard to believe the spat with Andy Murray was 8 years ago. Remember it well. He made a disparaging remark about Judy Murray and Andy took umbrage They nearly came to blows and the umpire had a job to calm them both down.
