The ABN AMRO Open is always one of the best ATP 500 tournaments on the annual tennis calendar; the 2025 installment promises to be no exception.
A star-studded draw was revealed on Saturday afternoon, headlined by top two seeds Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev. Alcaraz is set for his debut appearance in Rotterdam, while Medvedev is making his sixth trip to the tournament and took the title when he last played there in 2023.
Both Alcaraz and Medvedev have intriguing first-round matches on their hands. The Spaniard awaits a rematch with the Netherlands’ own Botic van de Zandschulp, who famously pulled off a huge 2024 U.S. Open the last time they faced each other. Up first for the Russian is 39-year-old Swiss Stan Wawrinka, who has won each of his last two meetings with Medvedev. Other openers to watch in Rotterdam are Matteo Berrettini vs. Tallon Griekspoor, Alexander Bublik vs. Jakub Mensik, and Holger Rune vs. Lorenzo Sonego.
It’s a rough draw all around for Alcaraz, who could go up against indoor hard-court master Felix Auger-Aliassime in the last 16 before possibly facing Rune in the quarterfinals and Andrey Rublev in the semis. Rublev is 14-5 all time in Rotterdam with one title (2021) and four other trips to at least the quarterfinals.
On the other side of the bracket, Medvedev is on a collision course for the quarters with familiar foe Stefanos Tsitsipas. Potential semifinal opponents for those two players are Bublik, Mensik, Alex de Minaur, Arthur Fils, and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
