  1. Ricky, I tried to post my daily picks with explanation then tried to post my first round picks here. Neither worked. Is there a limit to how many words we can use in a comment now?

  2. Well here is my bracket from R16 and on.
R16: Rafa over Shapo, Coric over Anderson, Cilic over Edmund, Isner over L. Mayer, Goffin over PCB, Djokovic over Dimitrov, Thiem over Nishikori, A. Zverev over Khachanov; QF: Rafa over Coric, Cilic over Isner, Goffin over Djokovic, Thiem over Zverev; SF: Rafa over Cilic, Thiem over Goffin ; Final: Rafa over Thiem

  3. Since Nadal played relatively poorly against Bolelli, he really might fail to defend the title. By the way I think he will still make finals: My predictions are:
    QF
    Nadal d Coric
(Fognini or Edmund (the winner between the two will probably make SF in my opinion) d Del Potro/Isner (I don’t honestly know who should I pick because this is probably the easiest part of the draw where there aren’t any properly top players on clay)
    Djokovic d Goffin
Thiem d Zverev (I know it can’t be the opposite but Thiem is playing really well and if he can keep this form and get rid of Tsitsi tomorrow he’ll probably end up winning since he’s more confident after Lyon and the conditions like 5 sets, heavier balls and slower clay advantages him more than Zverev)
    SF
    Nadal d Fognini/Edmund
    SF
Thiem d Djokovic (This match is a 50/50 as well and I think that the winner can beat Nadal if he doesn’t play at his best and if the winner plays like he’s currently playing in these early rounds).
    Finals:
Thiem/Djokovic d Nadal (That’s strange, I know, but as I said I’m worried about Nadal and I think he’s not 100%, but, obv, If he can find his form again he’ll win)

  4. some interesting results thus today.

    S. Stakhovsky 3:0 vs F. López
    J. Chardy 3:0 vs T. Berdych
    S. Johnson 3:0 vs A. Mannarino
    F. Fognini 3:0 vs P. Andújar
    P. Cuevas 3:0 vs A. Bedene
    J. Struff 3:0 vs E. Donskoy
    M. Marterer 3:0 vs R. Harrison

  5. Berdych out?! Not a surprise ,He’s been crap lately, I only picked him to go far in my bracket because a) Delpo was injured maybe to pull out, b) Isner hasn’t been great either this clay season and Berdych usually beats him.
Isner might not get past Zeballos ,or if he does it could be a long match with tiebreaks.

  7. The original pick of Ricky’s that struck me as off was Anderson to lose in 2nd round (I believe to Bedene, who is already out). I think Anderson has the potential to go far in this tournament, and even to take out Nadal in the QF if he’s firing on all cylinders. It depends on his health, of course, but he looks to be ok to me.

    • Anderson could make it as far as Rafa, although I’d have Schwartzman knocking him out as the more likely option. Either way, I really don’t see him as a threat to Rafa on clay, he’s not even a threat on HC.

    • If Bolelli playing the way he played couldn’t take out Rafa in R1, I doubt Anderson could do better facing Rafa in the QF! Anderson was already struggling to beat Mischa Zverev in four sets, he may struggle again vs Schwartzman in R4.

  8. Diego vs. Anderson will be a good match. Diego is playing some great tennis, and this surface favours him. However, I’m picking Anderson in 4. He’s starting to play really well, and the match will be on his racquet. If he should face Nadal in the quarters, I think he will benefit from last year’s USO final. There’s a reason Federer and others have picked him to win a major, though this isn’t the most likely surface, obviously. But his game has improved by leaps and bounds in the last few years.

  9. Entertaining first set of tennis between Khachanov and Sasha Zverev. I’m so happy for Khachanov winning the first set, for he’s more the underdog here, and I can’t stand the commentators at Fox Sports drooling over Sasha. They even said Sasha has the best DHBH now, I’m not sure about that!
