  1. Novaks wrist healed in 2 -3 weeks well and he came back to win Rome, reach finals of French and win Wimby too.

So hopefully Rafa will have few positive results too.

However I think this year has been very unlucky for Rafa. The back in a GS final and lingering effects of it all through, now the wrist..all unknown areas .

Cmon Rafa more important is AO 2015..double career slam waiting..

    • I don’t think we should hold high hopes for Rafa for US Open2014 @Sanju. Unlike novak, Rafa needs lead-up match play before clicking into gear, this is why these Masters tournaments like Madrid, Rome, Toronto and Cincy are important for him in his preparation for Slams.

Yes, hopefully he is fully recovered for Australia and gets that double career Slam. That would make up for the tough luck he has endured in 2014.

      Vamos!!

      • No RITB..I have already written off USO for Rafa..I will be positively surprised if he even participates..

I am only looking now for AO nad the double career slam..Once he gets that..I am gonna be stress free for Rafa there on. I will be happy with 15 and double career slam

Honestly, is this necessary? Why does Novak even have to be brought up at a time like this? Just another chance to take another shot at him?

All I care about is Rafa. It’s so unfortunate because the timing could not be worse with all of the points he was defending. I don’t see him being able to do anything at the USO without preparation.

      • it’s not clay …rafa does need more time to adapt and prepare …for now, I am just hoping he plays at the USO. Because he is still practicing, I do think he is aiming to do so..

and yes, i am least bothered about other players and their injuries when my man is facing another injury at a very bad time. Rafa is so unlucky with injuries

  3. And so Rafa’s jinx of not being able to defend a tournament off clay continues 🙁 Hope he sets it right at the USO. Dim chance but he lost a slam he should have won in Aus. About time he wins one which he should not

  4. Provided his wrist heals in time I’m clinging to the hope that Rafa can defy the odds and make a run at the USO without any hard court match preparation. After all he stormed back onto the scene in 2013 and started winning tournaments after an absence of 7 months!!!

      • ^^^^that’s what I’m afraid of 🙁
He’s already smirking at the prospect of beating Rafa’s number of weeks at No.1 and scooping year end No.1.

Not sure Murraymint is going to be able to put a spanner in the works.

      • number of weeks at #1 matters diddly squat. That’s a stat made up by Federazzi to bolster their endless GOAT argument. Anyone can be #1, remember the nearly-Mrs Rory Mcllroy?

  5. I am still holding out hope that somehow Rafa can make it to the USO. I know it’s going to be very tough without any preparation, but he’s defied the odds in the past.

I just hate to see Rafa having to deal with yet another injury and taking more time off. He’s had to go through this so often. But I would never be foolish enough to write him off. Anyone who does, just doesn’t know Rafa.

    • i agree….we should keep in mind that rafa struggled throughout the clay season and then used the early rounds at the french to build momentum and then became the unstoppable force he is. Of course that was clay but he can build momentum in a similar manner granted he is healthy.

It ‘also strange because it does not use the right arm as the left , but this is positive because they can train on all other shots and use even the reverse, but only in the back. We do not make predictions about the return, it is important to heal ! But do not ask me how you are injured because the trend is not clear, experienced pain when he hit a bad ball. ‘s all. ”

    Rough translation of Toni’s take

    • “We do not make predictions about the return, it is important to heal !”

Glad you are in Rafa’s corner Uncle T, grounded and practical, as always………….

Delpo uses his right arm but it is his left wrist that has kept him out this long (not suggesting the aame lay-off for Rafa!!), so it is not just Rafa. If my memory serves me right, for Novak it was his hitting wrist (the right) which gave him problems, we are told……

Dr. Cotorro says that Rafa’s wrist injury is not as bad as Delpo’s injury has been.

Puntobreak.com, 31/07/2014: ¤¤ The personal doctor and RFET [Dr. Cotorro] spoke about the wrist injury that would leave Nadal out of competition for at least two weeks.
What Cotorro wanted to make clear is that Nadal’s injury has nothing to do with Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro . “The problem is that these lesions should be treated immediately. There has been a rapid diagnosis, we know what we have and now we have to deal with it. I think this needs to evolve well and I think it will be another case of Rafa , nothing to consider what has happened to Juan Martin Del Potro.”
Nadal did not even have the option to force the wrist. “This type of injury do not allow to force . You have to stop, cure and to heal disinsertion occurred in the pod. Anything other than this causes problems afterwards. I think this injury has this treatment and can not be forced. There are other injuries that at one time you can do more or less, but here you have to make treatment mandatory rest “settled the doctor RFET .¤¤

      • no probs NNY 🙂

here is the complete word from Toni

“He will do an MRI. You must be immobilized three weeks (from the time of injury). This would end on Tuesday or Wednesday before the U.S. Open. Theoretically we can come, but we’ll see. I guess a week before and we’ll know if the injury is on track. Let’s wait until the end. The date is no limit. When we are good we will compete, and if we are not well, we will not compete.”

“He was hurt during a workout hitting a backhand. I do not remember what day it was. When you are injured you are always a little ‘morally wrong, especially at this time. There times when an injury does not affect much the season but this is not the case because we have to skip two Masters 1000 Rafa won that last year. Now we just need to figure out how to arrive at the U.S. Open. ”

“There are training with the forehand, the volley, service and backhand slice. If the board was in favor of New York in the early rounds, Rafa would have the opportunity to find the best solution because it is not even a beginner who needs to play a lot of games. He knows what he must do.”

Toni thinks that even if Nadal enters US Open without participating in any warm up event, he would be still able to find his rhythm as Grand Slam is a long event and he has experience on his side to deal with the situation.

      • the last para is not in quotes but it was informative so i posted.

Talking about the second last para, well, Toni seems confident rafa can find his game by playing himself into form in the first week. It will be tough but USO aint wimbledon so upsets very unlikely in week 1

  7. I am deliberating staying away from Tennis sites because the only news I want to hear is when Rafa is fully healed and back on court. I only visit her and VB for the latest news.

  8. I only visit here and VB for the latest news and staying away from all other sites until Rafa is fully recovered and ready to play. I don’t want to read any speculation about what could or couldn’t happen.

  9. This business about pain somehow making people better or stronger, doesn’t resonate with me right now. I think Rafa has had more than his share of it throughout his career and lost enough time. I don’t want to see him going through this over and over.

The good news is that it sounds like something that will resolve quickly with absolute rest. Rafa will do as his doctor advises. I have to believe that this must be extremely difficult for him.

Puntodebreak.com, 03/08/2014: ¤¤ TONI NADAL: “I AM OPTIMISTIC AND CONFIDENT PLAYING THE US OPEN”
The uncle and coach of Rafael Nadal talks exclusively to Point Break on the physical state of the Spanish tennis player and batting next US Open. Toni Nadal is optimistic about Nadal’s participation in the last Grand Slam of the year, but is silent about his presence in the next round of the Davis Cup against Brazil [in September]. ¤¤
