  1. Raonic said in an interview in Toronto that Nadal is the only top player he can’t cope with atm but that he is working on it.

  2. I haven’t been following tennis since Wimbledon. I’ so sorry to hear about Rafa’s injury. I hope it’s nothing serious. I’m here to find out why he declined the invitation to the royal reception King Felipe and Queen Letizia hosted in Mallorca a couple days ago. The new king and queen expanded the traditional dinner for Balearic officials to 300 guests from all segments of Balearic society. Rafa was certainly invited but he declined. Carlos Moya and his wife attended. Is Rafa too injured to attend? He certainly has a warm relationship with Spanish royals. Who could forget Felipe and Letizia were there for his epic Wimbledon win in 2008? Felipe also awarded him the Prince of Asturias Award for excellence in Sports a few years ago. I’m a bit puzzled by his absence.

  3. Rafa was interviewed on Friday, someone translated the interview.

“Rafa Nadal quotes from the interview for IB3 on Friday 8th August 2014 (translation in English): I will try to practice the best way possible what I can practice. After that, I just have to wait the news from the next week when I will go back to Barcelona. Then I will know if the injury has improved,(or) if I will have to wait a bit more. If the tests will show that has improved, after I have to test to see how much it hurts hitting the backhand. When you have an immobilized part for a while you lose a bit of muscle and regaining the form before takes a bit of time. It will be very short(time wise) but obviously I will try. If I see that I have chances to compete obviously that I will have to force. But we have to take into consideration that the time left is a week and a half. That doesn’t give you much room to force and I won’t be able to make it if when that day arrives I can’t hit a backhand”.

  4. I read that Rafa will see his doctor today then after testing the wrist will decide on Thursday/Friday or Saturday at the latest, about his participation at the USO.

Why does this always happen to Rafa? Why???????

The reigning US Open champion Rafael Nadal injured his right wrist in training at the end of July

Majorca: Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal, who is recovering from a wrist injury, said he will decide latest by Saturday whether he can take part in the US Open to defend the title he won last year against Serb Novak Djokovic.

“My dream is being there and I will work for it,” said Nadal, who added he planned to see his doctors in Barcelona on Tuesday for final examinations that will determine if the slight fracture in his right wrist has healed, reports EFE. (Also Read: Nadal Working ‘Hard’)

“If it has healed I’ll have to try and see how I feel when I train and Friday or at latest Saturday a decision will be made”, he said during the inauguration of a tennis and paddle club in his hometown, Manacor, on the island of Majorca on Monday.
However, “time is short and we’ll have to wait and see if it is enough or not”, the nine-time Roland Garros champion and World No.2 said, referring to the beginning of the US Open August 25.

Nadal hurt his wrist while training in Manacor and missed the masters 1000 tournament in Toronto which ended this weekend and the Western and Southern Open which is currently taking place in Cincinnati in the US.
