  1. I think the top 10 should have their fair share of playing tall players. They should be placed against them in rotation.

I am almost sure that Rafa would ave won Wimbledon had Gasquet taken one of his match points against Krygios. That’s why I’m not rushing to criticize Rafa especially not his ROS because he has a 20:0 record against Isner, Karlovic, Raonic and Gulbis which is much better than Nole’s record against them.

    • 12 years, 14 Slams. Not a bad return imo………….

To me this is the stat that beggars belief, and is not talked about more (we know why): winning a Slam on 9 (or is it 10?) successive years. How can this be a lesser measure of consistency than consecutive semis at a Slam? Never mind, #rhetorical.

  2. I hope Rafa continues his great form since the FO and I hope he wing the WTF this year. Raonic might qualify this year and we wait and see whether Andy will. He’ll have to up his game if he wants to stay in the top 10 let alone qualify for the WTF.

      • The inconvenient ATP player: Rafael Nadal Parera.

Just after Wimbledon, Peter Bodo wrote a blog where he opined that Nivak Djokovic’s storyline has now surpassed Rafa’s. I said to myself, “If it has, it does not need announcing, Mr. Bodo”.

Some people’s attempts and efforts to air-brush Rafa out of the picture have now assumed pathetic proportions.

      • @augusta08 at 3:26 pm,

Bodo is first and foremost a Fedfan. Nolefans will learn soon enough when (not if) he overturns that H2H against Roger and stretches it, that Federazzi “love” is conditional and that they were never for him, they were against Rafa, as usual.

    • I saw the tweet below on Saturday and I was mystified why the announcement only needed to made today when Rafa had qualified way back, in fact was the first to qualify. Ah well, it’s only Rafa, no?

RT @BenRothenberg : “ATP just confirmed with me that Rafael Nadal has indeed already mathematically qualified for London WTFs. Announcement will be made Monday.”

  3. This is the ATP announcement on Rafa’s qualification to the WTF:

“Rafael Nadal will return to London this November in an attempt to capture his first career season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals title. Nadal joins three-time champion Novak Djokovic as the first two singles players to qualify for this year’s season finale, to be held at The O2 from 9-16 November.”

This is what one poster said in the comments section:

    Gloria Hamilton-Forde says:

“The ATP could have saved face by saying Novak joined Rafa to qualify rather than Nadal joined Djokovic. It makes no sense to say that Nadal joined Djokovic when Nadal got there first as he hasn’t gained any points since they announced that Novak was the first to qualify.

The ATP is shamelessly trying to promote Djokovic because they think his profile is not high enough. Rafa doesn’t need their help, he has charisma to burn.”

    Thank you, Gloria. Well said.

    • 😀 I have a feeling that rafa is quietly confident from inside. He knows that the back was pure bad luck and then kyrgios loss was just….well….forget it. He will be recharged and a big force in Toronto

      • Rafa was clearly bitterly disappointed at losing to Kyrgios – had he survived that match I’m certain he would have gone on to win his third Wimbledon title. However agree with you it does not appear to have knocked his confidence. All the pics of him relaxing with friends in ibiza point to that. Fingers crossed for the H/C swing.

  4. What I love about Rafa is the enthusiasm he still has for his job! Nothing worse than waking up and feeling, “Oh no, not another day at THAT office”. That is the positivity that makes him a winner.

  5. RT @bgtennisnation: “I think with the success of Kyrgios we are now going to teenagers that will be coming to top 100 in the next 18 months”

Typical. Someone beats Rafa and he is put on a “success” pedestal. Poor Dolgo, Almagro and Ferru must be feeling left out…………………

  6. Hopefully, with everyone seemingly on a mission to elevate Novak’s profile, Rafa will receive less attention (fat chance!) and be allowed to go about his business with less pressure.

  9. hawkeye, there is a difference between knowing a fact and boasting about it, no? True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less.
