Yes ed, was horrid, but also was there 2 years ago when Andy didn’t play, so kinda getting used to it. Bummer π
Enjoyed the tennis anyway, you just appreciate the skill and power even more. Had never seen Crashquet or Stan play in the flesh either, so that was good.
On Rafa’s Facebook page, posted less than an hour ago, is this picture, followed by the English translation that says “I can now finally do it: I introduce you to my brother Tomeu Nadal.” So there’s been a secret brother? I wonder if that was the reason for his parents split in 2009, although they have reconciled. https://scontent-a-sea.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/p480x480/1463357_10151860298326026_1709053106_n.jpg
nadline, please do get to the bottom of that, lol! Always interested in gossip! If that guy is really named Tomeu Nadal, he is probably NOT Rafa’s out of wedlock brother, who probably wouldn’t have Nadal as his last name. But there are many Nadals on this tiny Spanish island with a limited gene pool, so one of them could look a lot like Rafa.

Ever since Ricky accused Rafa of not making eye contact with chair umpire on post match handshake, I’ve made it a point to observe. Eye contact every time.
Anything else is a back handed insult. Is simply not Rafa’s way.

very few do. Nadal and Federer are the exception, not the rule. And I donβt agree that Nadal gives a strong handshake to umpires while making eye contact. He rarely does.
As long as you shake, it doesnβt matter how you do it.

yeah, Iβm sure. Certainly when he loses he doesnβt (same with everyone).
Every one of the last nine matches, Rafa made eye-contact with the chair umpire since Paris and WTF including both losses to Nole at WTF and Ferru in Paris.
I’ve never shaken someone’s hand without making eye-contact. Can’t even imagine doing so. Either a sign of blatant disrespect or social anxiety.
you also can’t compare introductory handshakes in everyday like to handshakes at the end of a tennis match with someone who is sitting 5 feet above you.
Ok, I just got a clarification of that post that was on Rafa’s Facebook page. Per Neil Harman, it’s some kind of promotion for a Poker Challenge. It’s not an outing of a secret brother.
More to come.

We are Deucy. We are. Believe you me.
But it must have been heartbreaking for you that Andy wasn’t there.

Rafa needs to work on his serve. In tennis, you are only as good as your second serve and a 3% differential with Djoko is a lot………………..

Too bad Olympics2012 was not on clay and Rafa’s knees where shot at the time ;-).

hahahahahaha
He looks more like Rafa than Rafa does π
don’t fall for it
Still trying to figure it out but they look like two peas in a pod. Must really be his brother
Vamos!
it’s a PokerStars promotion
#bluffing
I was wondering the same thing, in all the family pictures you never see this brother Tomeu
it’s not his real brother.
I’m trying to get to the bottom of it. I always wondered what a Rafa brother would look like. Could be a joke.

Rafa’s dad could have had a son. If so, the son would have a last name Nadal

i didn’t accuse Rafa of not making eye-contact.
I accused people on this site of blasting Djokovic and other players for not doing it.

that isn’t an accusation. an accusation is when you call out something wrong.
not making eye contact and/or not making a firm handshake is not wrong.

I was talking about respectful handshakes, not passive aggressive nor socially inept ones.
Main point was that Rafa makes eye contact on handshakes even to lowly higher umpires, win or lose.

we already know more than enough!
^^^shouldn’t this be on the Murray thread?
no
Quite frankly I don’t wanna know more! If this was Pokerstars’ idea of a joke, flew past me tbh…………
Still trying to fathom out what this is all about. Is it a promotion for Rafa’s Foundation?
no, promotion for PokerStars (with whom Nadal has a contract, I believe)
