  1. Love it. Rafa celebrating the culmination of his extraordinary year by taking off to watch a big football match. His ability to balance what’s important in his life with the demands of his professional life is what keeps him grounded. He’s still the excited kid at heart in spite of ten years of fame and adulation.

Rafa Nadal has suffered a small cut on the forefinger of his left hand cutting bread for breakfast this morning. Being skilled in everyday life, it has suffered the hand that held the bar and that is the main in tennis, where it is reconverted into Southpaw.

This has led to start the training provided at the O2 Arena an hour later, even though it has not impacted on his work. A bandage as a precaution and has hit raquetazos as if nothing.

A slight scare without consequences, that will not prevent its normal performance in their match on Friday against Tomas Berdych, expected at 2100 Spanish time, and that will be the first of their group.

Qualified for semifinals and tied the number one year world, Rafa Nadal aspires to win Final ATP Masters, still not contained in his record

    • ^^^Why, oh why, does Team Nadal insist on letting Rafa loose around sharp and hot objects? First the hot plate in the Japanese restaurant and now this………..

Isn’t it patently clear Rafa needs a body-man who can do these chores for him? I mean, hitting a yellow fuzzy ball at supersonic speeds is tiring you know!

I blame Uncle Toni for this latest lapse……………

    • unbelievable…plates, knives, scissors are dangerous weapons in Rafa’s hands…he should be forbidden from accessing the kitchen…pure fault by Uncle Toni indeed… 🙂

  3. It won’t impact Rafa’s performance. He is used to ignoring injuries and pain. He ignored a bum knee at AO 2012 and almost won it! So if he wants to win WTF, he will not be deterred by a cut on his forefinger.
If Rafa is determined, only Nole is capable of thwarting him. at this tournament..

  4. Groan……….and I thought my jokes were bad:

RT @CharlySteeb: “if he’d read Novak’s diet book none if this would’ve happened.he’s just working on his slice!”

  5. Hasse says Rafa’s training partners are glorified ball bays:

Haase chooses training with Federer top Masters

Between 17 and 22 December Robin Hasse will not play the KNLTB Tennis Masters, the number 44 of the world prefers to train with Roger Federer in Dubai.

“I have Roger asked if I was allowed to train with him in Dubai. He replied that I welcome, “says Haase in De Volkskrant.

Federer is preparing for the new season in Dubai always. The former number one in the world has a house in the city in the United Arab Emirates.
The other training partners of Federer are the Slovenian Blaz Kavcic and the Ukranian Alexandr Dolgopolov.

For a training camp with Rafael Nadal would have thanked Haase friendly. “His training partners are glorified ball boys. He played not even a rally with me. I acted as principal. Then you may use the number one in the world, but I don’t feel like it. ”

The KNLTB Tennis Masters are held in the topsportcentrum Rotterdam. Haase captured the title in 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

    • ^^Thank you for this, @Jpacnw. This vindicates what I had already asserted: Uncle T was not shouting coaching instructions to Rafa, he was shouting, “Vamos”! All the Federazzi, including Bodo, had made seized on it to make a mountain out of it. They are such an evil lot.

      Vamos Rafa!!

      • Everyone is desperate to find a way through Rafa. OK, he doesn’t win every match but he is close. Berdych joked earlier this year that maybe, the players need to have a meeting to discuss how to beat Rafa, this could be one of their strategies.

      • What does Stan mean by ‘because it’s Rafa’, Rafa gets more warnings than anyone else. Federer hit the ball into the crowd twice, in frustration, recently with no warnings.

  6. RT @alvarorama: “Outside Wimbledon, Nadal has reached at least the semifinals in ALL the events played during 2013. Solid.”

If Rafa wins WTF 2013, he will end 2013 with a a better winning percentage, for the year, than Djokovic in 2011.

  7. @nadline, it is strange, the players seem to feel ATP officialdom is afraid of Rafa (remember Tsonga’s complaints at IW during a match against Rafa) and dares not upset him and yet we the fans get the impression officialdom targets Rafa (eg, time violation rule)!

I think the players are intimidated by Rafa’s success and mistakenly think officialdom feels the same………….

    • There must be something in it if 2 players have said so and I think the same applies to Roger. Probably, not so much afraid of them but trying not to belittle them in public as they are the ones who draw the crowd in and are the ambassadors that the general public identify with tennis..

Could it be that Rafa gets the obligatory warning just to prove that he is treated the same as everyone else?

  8. According to Benito, Rafa will receive his YE #1 trophy on Saturday at 2.02 pm local time, just before the afternoon singles match.

    Vamos Rafa!!

    • These are the real prizes that the winner actually achieves through hard work. Fed’s are just wishy, washy awards given as consolation prizes.

  9. I never like to watch Rafa lose. The internet has become a two-edged sword. It allows us to see every single match, no matter how small the tournament may be and it also allows us unprecedented access to interviews, photo-ops, press conferences, etc, so that, in a way, we sometimes feel as if we “know” a player who we may closely follow. Because I feel a closeness to Rafa that I haven’t felt with the previous generation of players, the sting of a loss somehow feels more personal, as if I were watching a friend or family member lose. That’s the purely emotional reaction of course, not the intellectual one. So, for a day or so I’m sad about it, then remember that I am just a fan and I should not let his losses adversely affect my mood. That said, I’ll comfort myself sometime later next week by watching the 2008 French Open final, which I have on DVD.

  10. Yes, I must admit that Rafa’s losses are intensely personal for me. I am so invested emotionally in him. The only other time I was this involved was with Borg. It’s great to have that special player, the one who you can connect with and love watching, the one who gives you chills down your spine. But it makes the pain that much worse when he loses.

It’s like the agony and the ecstasy. I had to take some time after Rafa’s loss in the WTF final. I waited before posting my thoughts. When I once again had perspective and realized that it was just another final, he can’t win them all, he’s had such a brilliant year, and that the sun will rise in the morning and set in the evening. The world as we know goes on and so does Rafa.

He deals with his losses so well. One more reason to admire him a lot! 🙂
