  1. @deucy,

I am sorry to hear that. I thought that Andy was playing some really good tennis in Miami. Maybe it’s just going to take more time. I would really love to see him completely healthy and playing brilliant tennis. I am rooting for him. Here’s a little smiley for you to cheer you up. πŸ™‚

  2. Oh, I just remembered where I heard that Andy would like a new coach by the time RG rolls around. On tennis-x, no less! It was an article written by Tom Gainey with some of Andy’s comments regarding his search for a new coach.

The rumored possible hires reported by the British media are Bob Brett, Paul Annacone, Darren Cahill, Mats Wilander and Brad Gilbert.

  3. @NNY
Thank you, here’s a hug 0 for you.
Think Cahill couldn’t, already contracted to Adidas and I think has a young family?
He’s been and done Brad, though I do think it would work much better this time.
    Of the others prefer Brett.
I think Andy should kidnap Magnus Norman, he’s done wonders for Stan and did similar for Soderling. As inscrutable as Ivan court side too.
Boris Becker court side for Nole, now that’ll be some side show…;)

    • Anybody but Wilander. Agree Magnus Norman would be ideal.

I had a really bad feeling all was not well during the DC weekend and my heart sank when he played the doubles rubber as well…………. πŸ™

  4. IMO, Bob Brett is from another era entirely. He didn’t do much for Cilic either. Andrew has tried Brad Gilbert before and I don’t think they got on that well because Andy didn’t really look up to him as he is not a GS winner. What exactly did Annacone do for Federer and I’m still trying to get my head round why players would want to be coached by the likes of Annacone and Cahill whose careers didn’t exactly set the world alight. Anyone who is not a GS winner should steer clear of Andy because he’s said many times that he needs someone who has pedigree in slams, so it’s bound to end up in tears.

I leave Wilander till last because despite being a slam winner, I doubt he’s about to put his money where his mouth is. His commentary is usually peppered with how to beat Rafa on clay. He wouldn’t want to see that put to the test.

I think Andy should break the mould and appoint Navratilova. Virginia Wade has disqualified herself by calling Andy a Drama Queen.

    • I really like your suggestion @nadline10. Navratilova is pretty solid and I think, like Lendl, she would move Muzza up a step. However, how would the locker room dynamics work from a practical level? Coaches hang around their charges in the locker-room and the players are practically butt naked half the time in there, before and after matches. Unless everybody is pretty grown-up about it, Martina’s presence could introduce an awkward dynamic, to put it mildly.

    • It’s not Martina I am worried about, it’s the boys in the locker-room! Just wonder how they would react to having any woman, of whatever persuasion, in the same environment while they were in a state of undress.

  5. Andy is the trailblazer in appointing coaches. Navratilova who, for me, is the best choice of the women because she doesn’t have a family to worry about……………come on, Andy, do it. As a last resort, he could always appoint his mum.

  6. Martina would be great, don’t think the locker room would be a problem. Presumably coaching and talking tactics don’t go on there.
Appointing Judy would be a regressive step IMHO. She last coached him when he was a little kid. Even Leon took over when Andy was 11.

  7. Muzza needs to show up well at Madrid, Rome and RG, pile up some ranking points and get back into the Top 4 before Wimby.

  8. Andy is meant to be announcing his new coach on Friday. NOT going to be a “tennis legend.” Well, I suppose he’s been there and bought the Tee Shirt.
And has been in Paris…..the plot thickens….

  10. What a wonderful day for Andy and all his family πŸ™‚
What a brilliant person he is *wub*
All that fame and money don’t seem to have changed him at all. He is still the boy from Dunblane, still missing home and family.

  11. Heartwarming and emotional day for Andy and his family.

He’s smartened up a lot, and is now very articulate but he’s essentially the same Andy who used to shamble onto court looking as if he’d been dragged out of bed under protest to play his matches. Still does sometimes. lol.

I still smile when I remember your reprimand on TT (circa 2009) to people who were criticising his monosyllabic interviews – telling them English was not his first language so they were lucky to get more than three words out of him πŸ˜€

  12. I just thought he should man-up as a true sportsman. No wonder people think tennis is a sissy sport.

However, Andy is a charming guy and I like his sense of humour. He contributed to a programme on the BBC the other day called ’50 Golden Years of Sport’, and his account of the longest match in history at Wimbledon between Isner/Mahut had my husband and I in stitches. I have kept it on SKY+ just to watch Andy again. In fact that was the only bit of the programme that was worth watching.

    #Dr Andy Murray
