  1. I’ve always had my doubts about the voting in the BBC SPOTY. It’s not the first time they’ve had to hand the trophy to someone who is not present and I always wonder if it’s a put up job. It’s happened before when it was blatantly obvious that they were just going through the motions. Andy didn’t even look surprised or ecstatic because he already knew he’d won it. That is not to say he doesn’t deserve it.

The BBC has been caught faking voting results before, along with ITV so I didn’t think they’d do it again. It would be interesting to see the fall out from this. See a clip in the DM of Lineka’s gaff.

    • ^^Groan……..

Dumb-founded to be honest, at the ineptitude of the whole affair. I don’t know about the other suspicious happenings but to me it appeared to be a desperate attempt at being cute, rather than outright malfeasance.

Criminal malfeasance? That’s awarding the Overseas Sports Personality award to a F1 driver (at Rafael Nadal’s expense, no less) when everyone knows F1 is crooked. Team orders, anyone?

  2. Lol nadline, as you know Andy doesn’t do “surprised or ecstatic” EVER! The same thing happened last year when he was in the States and Lennox Lewis, I believe, gave him replica third prize.
Andy made a brilliant acceptance speech btw.

  3. Now, this is exciting:

“Andy Murray wants to repay the British public with Australian Open success next month after being crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year. ”

I hope Muzza “brings it” at AO 2014, we have a balanced draw so Delpo falls on the side of whoever has Ferru because, tbh, I do not expect Ferru to be that competitive.

  4. New lies fiasco engulfs BBC as it admits rigging Blue Peter cat-naming competition

The BBC’s reputation for honesty and integrity has hit a new low.
The corporation was forced to sack a former Blue Peter editor and issue a fresh apology for lying to the programme’s young viewers.

It also admitted another three instances where it had misled the licence-paying public, adding to the long list revealed earlier this year.

    • I really like Andy, too. He’s got that quiet, droll wit along with an introspective, humble personality. I’m happy for him that he’s been able to win a couple of slams. I’m just glad the wins didn’t come at Rafa’s expense. Rafa, on many occasions, told the world that Andy would win a slam even when so many people were saying it wouldn’t happen. Andy has returned the compliments for Rafa on many an occasion. (Not to mention, returning the teasing. So who will really lose their hair first)?

      • ^^^Aw, stop buttering him up, @deucy! The pseudofed hawkeye reference was to the review system not @hawkeye63-the-perennial-thorn-in-the-flesh-to-the-Roger x blog-Federazzi………………..and you know it.

  5. Looks like Muzza’s really cranking it up, he will be playing doubles with Nenad Zimonjic in Doha:

RT @nenadzim: “My partner in Doha will be Andy Murray! I can not wait to start the new season.”

    Vamos!

  6. RT @SI_BTBaseline: “Rotterdam loses Stanislas Wawrinka but gains Andy Murray, who takes a wildcard into next week’s tournament. The back must be feeling good.”

    Vamos Muzza!

  7. RT @ESPNTennis: “After two years, two Major titles and a gold medal, Andy Murray and Ivan Lendl are ending their coaching relationship #ESPNTennis”

    Why Muzza, why?

RT @ESPNTennis: “Lendl: “Having helped him achieve his goal of winning major titles, I feel like it is time for me to concentrate on some of my own projects””

RT ESPNTennis: “Murray: “I’m eternally grateful to Ivan for all his hard work over the past two years, the most successful of my career so far.””

  8. Am so upset and disheartened 🙁 Andy is a long way from recovery and now this shocker. Think it’s more Ivan wanting out than Andy wanting out tbh. The timing is just horrible. :'(

    • Totally agree @deucy, awful timing. Muzza needs a good showing in Miami to have a chance of a good ranking position for the clay season. It’s time Muzza made inroads on clay. He is too good a player to have zero clay tournament wins. I thought this is what He and Lendl were focusing on for 2014.

      • Unlikely for Murray to win a clay tournament if he only plays the clay Masters or Barcelona. He should play the 250 events to get his practice and his wins.

  9. Andy Murray has brought his coaching partnership with Ivan Lendl to an end, two-and-a-quarter years after the unlikely pair were brought together.

Both parties described the split as mutual and amicable, with the Czech wishing his charge all success for the future and declaring that he wished to pursue other projects, such as playing on the Seniors Tour and running his tennis academy

Sounds like Lendl wants to capitalize on his success with Andy and open his own tennis academy. Last year when he was interviewed on coaching Andy he said he would leave at age 55 to concentrate on golf. He’s now had a change of heart.

Shame Djoker has already bagged BB.

“I’m eternally grateful to Ivan for all his hard work over the past two years, the most successful of my career so far. As a team, we’ve learned a lot and it will definitely be of benefit in the future. I’ll take some time with the team to consider the next steps and how we progress from here”.

RT @Ringham7: “Judging by his last choice @andy_murray won’t go for the obvious with next coach. Tough act to follow for whoever it is. Ivan was excellent”

    • ritb, that was a joke.

I don’t think Andy will go for an ex player again. I’m not sure these 80s/90s stars are really up for it. It’s a big ask to come out of retirement and actually prove yourself as a coach. In Lendl’s case it worked but it would have been very embarrassing if it hadn’t. Connors has tried his hand with Roddick and Sharapova and it ended in tears.

It’s a shame for Andy that this successful relationship has come to an end. Llendray never played Rafa.

      • Professional tennis has evolved. It is no longer the laid back sport popular with playboys like Nastate etc. It is now more cut-throat and dare I say, more professional. It’s not a picnic out there for these current crop of players. Why else are we seeing a tapering off in performance and reliability between the Big 4 and the rest? It’s a grind. If it is a grind for players, it also is a grind for their coaches. Is it a surprise that Vajda has also scaled back his commitments to Novak? Rafa seems to have seen this conundrum and put in place early enough a dual coach set-up with Uncle T and Roig. Edberg showed up in IW and left before the tournament had hit half way!

Muzza needs to bridge the gap with Rafa, Novak and Fed, and if Lendl could not commit to being with Muzza, at this time, then I cannot see how Muzza could have kept him on.

I hope Muzza takes his time and finds the right fit for him.

  10. There should be no shortage of candidates offering their services now he has broken through the barrier but hard to know who will make a good matchup for Andy. Initially I was somewhat dubious when he linked up with Llendl but he worked miracles in a very short space of time. I hope he makes a decision quickly. He lost his way completely when he was without a coach for an extended period after he and Miles Maclagan parted company.

  11. Whoever he goes with will need to know how to handle the Murray temperament and not try to change his game, The Brad Gilbert/Alex Corretja tenures were a catastrophe.

  12. Am hoping Cahill will fill the gap temporarily, as he did last time. Seemed to work very well. Think Andy initially wanted him, but he couldn’t as he is the “team” coach.
No expectations at all for Miami now 🙁
