    • Hey Big Al — who is your pick for WTA Wimbles?

You are so good at both ATP and WTA every week in TDC. I suck at picking ATP on grass so bad, I think I just look for someone to copy here like YOU, Ricky, Benny….

      • Ta,but for Wimby, haven’t really got a clue who will win.Ill probably go with Petra,if she’s fit and well rested, hard to stop.
But then there’s others like Woz,Kerber all playing well, big question of course is Serena.
Interesting to see if we will have a first time Slam winner.

  1. Bold prediction on Nole, Ricky. I feel like we might get a surprise finalist. Too bad for Cilic he’s in the same half as Federer. I’d have him in the final for sure.

      • Indeed why I can’t pick Kyrgios to the final. He’s tempting though – what if he won all his matches in 3 sets?

Same with Del Potro if he could make the final. To me if Rafa makes the QF, he will beat Delpo. But that’s actually my initial QF pick. Delpo over Rafa. Uh yeah….I don’t know about any of it. I should stay with WTA only.

      • Saw the semis, and I can watch the final replay
That’s the second year in a row Woz did well for my Bracket.Obviously she likes it there.
The Wimby men’s is really hard to pick a winner .
Fed has looked shaky, nearly impossible for me not to pick him though!

      • Here we go with the conspiracy theories. Hey why play the tournament at all if itโ€™s a foregone conclusion?

I say let the games begin and letโ€™s see what happens!

      • meh.. Hawksley — Halle had the roof closed, didn’t they? Fed has to be a lot sharper to conquer Wimbledon again. But I took him to the quarters to be safe lol

        • Sorry rc but I donโ€™t need to tell you that Halle and Wimby are not the same. Halle is a warm up and itโ€™s not uncommon for Fed to lose a grass match before going on to win Wimby.

The roof will be closed in two weeks. NID.

          • LOL, thank-you Hawksley, I thought they were the same because my brainbucket is full of just marbles rattling around now ๐Ÿ˜€

          • I think fed to win is a solid dark horse pick. Shhhh…donโ€™t tell anyone.

          • Oh dear Hawkie, honestly I do still get that Fed is the Favorite to win. Rafa is a distinct possibility. Even my pick of Novak or Delpo isn’t that off-beat.
Tubs, out of shape Jack Sock, not that would be shocking ๐Ÿ˜€

          • I know you do rc. And Rafa and Nole are virtually tied for second betting favourite.

I have a feeling that Herbert will win. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Hawkeye had mentioned that Cilic, Coric , all big servers would be on Rafa’s side. But the shameless guy comes back and posts garbage again. I wonder how sick one could be.

  2. I took Raonic over Zverev. Really tough call on the Cilic vs Raonic matchup though, so basically if Cilic does win that then I think he goes on to win it all.

    • Rafa always has a match where he gets especially nervous as per the Diego one….as he sees it as a crucial stepping stone to success. I kind of feel that if rafa gets to the quarters he beats Delpo..But maybe that is the match he wants too much to win and chokes?
With rafa i am most worried about the first four rounds. Zverev beat Murray at the ao and his game is made for grass…

      • amy,

I think if Rafa gets to the quarterfinals to meet Delpo, he will beat him. That will mean heโ€™s playing well and Rafa is dangerous when he gets to the second week of a slam.

As for Novak, I am surprised at him being picked to get to the final. Based on his performance at Queens? A slam is a whole different thing. I think itโ€™s too soon but we shall see.

      • Also it took peak Nole five incredibly gruelling sets to beat Delpo a few years ago when Delpo was on one leg! And the wimby crowd loves Delpo so you would kind of think he could beat Nole when he isn’t in top form.

  3. I think Cilic is the only one able to trouble Fed before the final.
On the other half, Novak/Kyrgios/Nadal/Zverev can make it to the final. I pick Kyrgios.

  4. Ta,but for Wimby, haven’t really got a clue who will win.Ill probably go with Petra,if she’s fit and well rested, hard to stop.
But then there’s others like Woz,Kerber all playing well, big question of course is Serena.
Interesting to see if we will have a first time Slam winner.

  5. Nadal won’t win. The year he won he was about 10kgs heavier and had youth on his side He also had great belief in his strategy at a time when he’s nemesis was struggling against this strategy. Im looking forward to see who will give the ego-maniac a spanking this year.

Fed shouldnt win because he’s results in Halle suggest he’s not sharp and age is catching up with him but where is the competition. By the end of week 2 Fed will have gained confidence because there’s no one that can really threaten him throughout the tournament.

Lajovic or Coric might beat Fed in the early rounds. If he gets through those 2 then he will be confidence before he meets the typical cats that cave in mentally against him (i.e. Anderson, Cilic). then the final, he’ll be as sharp as he’s ever been, maybe a notch below last year but it will be good enough to claim another title.

  6. Maybe Cilic will learn from last year and actually turn up this time. He’s not the sharpest tool in the shed but might just learn his lesson from last year.

Edmund will beat Kyrgios. Kyrios is a myth.
Murray will beat Nadal if they meet.
Murray will then beat Edmund over 5 sets.
Murray or Edmund could win the final.

Ive got a very strong feeling Fed, Nadal and Djokovic won’t win it.

    Murray, Edmund or Cilic might.

      • LOL.

So many โ€œobjectiveโ€ fedfanboys so upset with Rafa for casting so much closeted self doubt about Federer as GOAT.

        Such hilarious hypocrisy.

    • Talk about not being the sharpest tool in the shed! From the person who predicted Zverev winning RG! You heard it here first!

Now it starts again! I guess itโ€™s good for a laugh!
      ๐Ÿ˜€

        • amy,

Yes more great predictions! LOL! I guess we will be treated to more nonsensical predictions for Wimbledon!
          ๐Ÿ˜ณ

        • It does seem far-fetched – either of those players beating Rafa! All I know is that I promised people on TX that I would enter the TX tourneytopia ATP bracket and really regret it.

This might be the first time in a long time that I don’t want to do any bracket — I do it weekly and it comes down to biggest GS, imo, and I’m burnt-out. But I did set up a WTA Tournytopia bracket if anyone is interested. It going to be between me and Farah Diba, perhaps another regular WTA bracketeer from TX.
          https://www.tourneytopia.com/RacquetBracketWimbledonWTA/jalep2018/default.aspx

        • Where’s a Michael Stich, Richard Krajicek or Goran Ivanisevic when you need one? There’s very few with a potentially big game to cause a boilover.

The only ones capable I think are Murray, Edmund or Cilic. The opportunity is definately there for one of these players to create a memorable and historic Wimbledon.

  7. It would be ironic and a bitter pill for Andy to swallow if he were to meet and lose to Edmund. It could happen obviously but I doubt that it will.

  8. Hmmm…rafa is playing a lot of in form players early on.
Kukushkin beat Edmund in Eastbourne and zverev won his final!! That makes them very dangerous early on when rafa has no grass court preparation!I
These early matches are the ones we should be worried about!

  9. Novak is not making the final.
Nadal is probably not making it past R3; Could see him falling to Checcinato.
Fed’s chances of making it to the final are maybe 50%; Cilic or even Coric could beat him unless he improves significantly upon his Halle form. I think age has caught up with him.
Murray may surprise, but not past R4.

Decent chance that Wimbledon will have a 1st time GS champ this year. Most likely Zverev, Kyrgios, or Coric.

    • Ha ha! On Zverev, Kyrgios and Coric. Also Cecchinato.

To me Fed would have a hard time in R4 probably going the distance and then loses to Querrey or Anderson in the QF. Kyrgios and Sasha will kill each other and then loses to Djoko in the QF.

Rafa, if he gets past Mischa (no Cecchinato as heโ€™ll lose to Mischa) will reach the SF to meet Djoko. So much hype about Delpo in the QF but Delpo injured himself and didnโ€™t play any warm up event on grass. Perhaps itโ€™s Goffin or even Feli making the QF in that section of the draw.

  10. I feel Cilic will take Fed to 5 sets this year if they meet again. The occasion got to him in last years final and he let the blister drain away a lot of his self-belief. It must have been hurting, but I think he checked out way too quickly. He got back on track after a slow start in the Aus open final, and nearly reeled Fed in before buckling in set 5, possibly with some final nerves. Think he’ll go all out in the semis, not too different from the US Open semi when he demolished Fed.

Hard to call right now, but I think Djokovic is a very very good call and my pick to reach the finals and if he does, I actually think he’ll win Wimbledon. He inexplicably caved in to Cilic at Queens when seemingly in control but his game looked very good and his belief will only increase if he gets to the final.

Fed over Cilic in 5 (with a lot of bias)
    Djok over Nadal in 5

    Djok over Fed in 5

    • If Fed has to beat Cilic in five, he would not last five sets against Djoko; it would be Djoko in straight or four sets in the final, imo.

      • I doubt Djokovic is good for the final anyway. I wouldn’t mind seeing it, but I don’t think he’s there yet. People raved about that Cecchinato match at RG, and there were some great moments in it. However if you look at the quality of Djokovic’s tennis in the big points, it wasn’t great. He looked nervous and he played a bit safe. Right now he’s heading in the right direction, but going into Wimbledon I think he’s playing maybe 80-85% of his best game. That’s good enough to beat most players, but he has a tough quarter. Maybe he won’t have to play Kyrgios, it wouldn’t surprise me given NK’s inconsistency and his own draw. But if he does I’d probably back Nick.

        • yeah, as well as Cecch played, he is still Cecch. A good performance by Djokovic would have ousted the Italian without too much trouble.

    • It really depends on Fed’s form. At Stuttgart and the first round at Halle, he looked like he was playing at quite a high level. He said himself that he felt more comfortable playing on the (relatively faster) Halle grass after the first match there, so I’m not sure what happened after that.

Certainly if Fed can find the form he displayed last year and early grass this year, he’s the favourite. I just have a feeling that age has finally caught up with him. I’d love to be wrong.

        • Agree with Ricky on the rest of the field. Fed should capitalize on another weak field.

Also, Wimby will close roof to keep grass green and slick like they did for Roger last year. Roof was closed at AO final for Fed (even though conditions in earlier matches like Monfils were much worse).

Not as much of a favourite as last year but Federer should win again this year with all of the same old favouritism and bias he continues to receive.

        • False, and in any case would also apply to Nadal and RG field. Imo, field was fine, but Nadal and Fed were arguably at their best ever last year.

Fed 2017 beats Novak at wimby in 2014 and 2015 (Fed 2015 should have done so anyway). Confidence gained from beating Rafa at AO 2017 and getting over slam hump at the same time is the difference.

Nadal 2017 beats Novak 2016 on clay and probably anyone (2008 version and Wawrinka 2015 possibly excepted).

  11. Rafa can lose to anyone in Wimby if he does not improve his serve and return game. His second round opponent beat Edmund

    • Why does Andy wait until the draw comes out? He did this at the USO last year. He had to know that he was not ready to compete at a slam after being out for a year.
