Both Bertens and Duque-Marino have tough first rounds waiting in Paris.
Bertens/Kerber

#55 Caroline Garcia over #66 Marjana Lucic-Baroni
Going with the home favorite but the match could easily go to Lucic-Baroni.
Garcia will face #41 Lesia Tsurenko in Paris on Sunday.

Sevastova over Knapp
Suarez-Navarro over Wang

Cibulkova over Konjuh

Kasatkina over Razzano
Svitolina over Townsend
S.Williams over Pereira
Babos over Mladenovic ?
Cornet over Maria

Puig over Goerges ?
V.Williams over Chirico
Wow. 13/16 for Thursday! Too bad my Tourneytopia bracket is so wrecked after Kerber and Azarenka had to lose.
Friday, May 27, FO picks:
Begu over Beck
Halep over Osaka ? contrasting styles.
Muguruza over Wickmayer
Kvitova over Rogers
Safarova over Stosur ? Classic
Kuznetsova over Pavlyuchenkova
Radwanska over Strycova (Can go either way!) ? go Aga!
Stephens over Pironkova
osaka had a real shot at the match. could have done it in the second.
venus was playing very very well yesterday, hitting very cleanly. i would love to see her climb up the rankings and win some titles…kudos to her!!
i despair of petra….
Kuznetsova is in destroyer-mode, along with Serena and Muguruza.
Saturday, May 28, FO picks:
Serena over home favorite Kiki Mladenovic.
Mladenovic plays her best tennis in team events: Fed Cup/IPTL. Kiki Mladenovic absolutely sparkled in her last match for the happy fans. She’ll have Chatrier eager to cheer her – but, I don’t think it’ll be enough…
Bacsinszky over another home fave, Parmentier.
Suarez-Navarro over Cibulkova. I picked Cibby but that was when I thought Carla was nursing an injury.
Putintseva over Knapp in a close one.
Ivanovic over Svitolina (or the other way around).
Venus over Cornet. Go VEE…
Bertens over Kasatkina — match of the day, maybe. Both have had a stellar 2016: Daria is ranked #23 in the race to Singapore and Kiki #35. But this is Daria’s first FO main draw and it’s Kiki’s 3rd FO round of 16. Going with the 24 yr. old, Kiki, over teenager, Daria.
Keys over Puig. Keys should win but Puig is an intense competitor.
Muguruza doesn’t play until Wednesday but I should think she’ll be able to end Shelby Rogers’ dream run.
Tuesday Week 2 FO picks:
Radwanska over Pironkova
Aga should be able to win in 2 but with the rain delay — not sure, maybe 3 sets.
Halep over Stosur
Suarez-Navarro over Putintseva
Serena over Svitolina
Bacsinszky over Venus
Keys over Bertens (not too sure about it!)
Either I forgot or didn’t know that Aga had wrist surgery. But congrats Pironkova.
Quarterfinals Top Half, June 2:
Couldn’t have imagined #60 Putintseva in the QF, but there she is.
Serena over Putintseva.
#9 Bacsinszky v #58 Bertens will be interesting. Bertens is another surprise. But this one really could go either way, only a slight edge to Bacsinszky – just have to watch!
Lower Half fighting for SF places today:
#24 Stosur vs #102 Pironkova
and
#4 Muguruza vs #108 Rogers
Should think Muguruza wins but Rogers is up a break in the first set.
Also favor Stosur to win but geez…Pironkova.
They are showing this match on NBC. I guess they are covering it live. I wonder if they will go back and show the men’s semifinals. Most likely the tennis channel will replay them.
I don’t even know why the network bothers to show a few hours of coverage. I wish the ESPN was televising RG.
This girl must be doing well if she won the first set. At least Williams is up a break in the third set.

Classic… Missed opportunities for Pituntseva 4 – 4 and Serena winning the set 6-4. A set everywhere!
Pseudo McEnroe @McEnroeTweets 1m1 minute ago
I had pasta Putintseva once by the way it was 1982 I was with Vitas in the south of France I believe.
hahaha pasta puttanesca, yum! spicy good.
It’s been a battle – Serena v Yulia. Yulia saves matchpoints! Deuce. MP #4 for Serena and…she makes it. Ah, Yulia is charming at the net. She’s tiny compared to Serena. Goodness.
Kiki and Timea still going at it. A case of too little too late for Timea? have only the score.
On the NBC pre-match talk show, the commies were talking about Serena having an adductor aka groin injury. JMac was saying that if she really does, we will soon find out! JMac skeptical.
First game – Serena. Easy hold to love. No problem serving!!

Congrats to Caroline Gacia and Kiki Bertens winning titles today!
Both are scheduled to play FO first rounds on Monday, so at least a day to get ready.

In case anyone is interested, here’s a French Open WTA Bracket Challenge! ?
Serena/Simona Final is my pick.
Not very creative but I have too many questions about Vika. There’s a good chance this will get crazy with seeds going out. Even yes, my girl, Simona.

Quel dommage! 22/32 . My WTA bracket is not looking good after today.
Angelique Kerber ousted by Kiki Bertens. Dang.
Kiki B. full of confidence after winning Nurnberg last Saturday tho. Great win for her.
Azarenka had to retire from her match. (knee trouble again)
Will Kvitova, Halep, Muguruzu and Radwanska survive Wednesday?
Fingers crossed for them!
Kvitova, Halep, Muguruza and Radwanska all survived and made 3rd round! Yay.

Kvitova bageled in the first set by Rogers (who???)!
poor Osaka had her chances but choked!
at least Stosur is winning atm…although you never know…
WTA is officially dreadful!
osaka had a real shot at the match. could have done it in the second.
venus was playing very very well yesterday, hitting very cleanly. i would love to see her climb up the rankings and win some titles…kudos to her!!
i despair of petra….
Shelby Rogers, ranked just inside the top 100, 23 or 24. I hardly know her.
Great win for her! wow. She has Irina Begu next.
Welp. My bracket is officially toast!
I like Naomi Osaka! Fearless teenager. But my girl Simona made it, phew…
Dear Petra. Hope she’ll get some consistency on grass!
Have not seen any matches — Gasquet too much for Nick, I guess.
Kuznetsova is in destroyer-mode, along with Serena and Muguruza.

Agnieszka! watch on full screen, if possible:

EPIC
Essential viewing.
Mugu battles past Kiznetspva in two sets after serving for the match I think it was five times.
garbine was very impressive i thought…wouldn’t be surprised if she were to win the whole thing.
Muguruza doesn’t play until Wednesday but I should think she’ll be able to end Shelby Rogers’ dream run.
Tuesday Week 2 FO picks:
Radwanska over Pironkova
Aga should be able to win in 2 but with the rain delay — not sure, maybe 3 sets.
Halep over Stosur
Suarez-Navarro over Putintseva
Serena over Svitolina
Bacsinszky over Venus
Keys over Bertens (not too sure about it!)
aga came out and lost 6 games in a row to give up the second set. conditions really upsetting her with mud on the ball and the racket strings….
Either I forgot or didn’t know that Aga had wrist surgery. But congrats Pironkova.
Quarterfinals Top Half, June 2:

Garbine broke back. 6-5, first set …seed order restored.
She broke and got it. 7-5. Garbine halfway there!
Pironkova’s got a break on Stosur 4-2
GSM
so when does the steffi curse become a thing?
?
Wow. Surprise. This is a good match. Go Serena v Yulia!
go serena!! is she injured?? she has been moving very poorly….
I dunno. Just started watching. Completely dismissed this match as a forgone conclusion.
Putintseva reminds me of young Cibulkova. Serena’s going to win, I think. But I like Yulia’s fight.
Serena can’t seem to beat Graf’s record. These slam losses seem like mental hurdle. She wins these matches in regular matches.
Steffi unintentionally got into her head too. Graf spoke about advising Serena on the pressure of breaking the record…
Sorry what did Graf say. Did not hear this.
Missed the first set. Maybe Yulia took Serena by surprise?
Bertens/Bacsinsky was the WTA match I was hoping to watch. Kiki hits the ball hard and can serve well. Timea uses guile and doesn’t give up.
Uh oh! Serena is broken and it’s back on serve. She is in a battle.
Yeah but, Yulia is bound to get a case of nerves isn’t she?
Gosh. And then the 21 year old will get mad at herself and fall apart?
Meanwhile Bertens got the first set from Bacsinszky!
Ah, Yulia. I hope she can make the 3rd set good and not go away. She did so well!
Serena will relax and cruise now. She needed a tough match, I think.
Muguruza v Stosur could be a good SF. Garbine v Serena final is my hope.
Yes, I think Serena will take charge from here on out.
I would love to see Garbine v Serena in the final! Now that is something that I would be sure to watch!
Yep. Serena’s got it.
#58 Kiki Bertens is close to beating #9 Timea Bacsinsky in straight sets!
It will be a relief to have all these singles matches finished today before it starts raining again.
Yes, that’s a good thing!

Classic… Missed opportunities for Pituntseva 4 – 4 and Serena winning the set 6-4. A set everywhere!
#BetweenTheEars
21 yr. old, WTA #60, Yulia Putintseva is not as cool a customer as Roberta Vinci, hawks…
But she’s done well, considering.
Bacszky is still fighting.
bien sûr ratatouille
oui, as it is. But… Go Yulia!
I had seen Putintseva play — but not for a couple of years. She’s had a tough time with injuries growing up.
wow Bertens
Better than @pseudoFed…

Chapeau Kiki Bertens! In the SF. Go get ’em. Good luck vs Serena!
#1 Serena v #58 Kiki.

Oops wrong thread, that link ^^
Kiki played well for having an injured left calf. Serena did what she needed and won. Garbine dominated Sam Stosur.
Hoping for a great WTA final!
Serena v Garbine.
The way garbine has been playing, I think we are going to get just that!
On the NBC pre-match talk show, the commies were talking about Serena having an adductor aka groin injury. JMac was saying that if she really does, we will soon find out! JMac skeptical.
First game – Serena. Easy hold to love. No problem serving!!
sam smith and marion bartholi think she is injured! but she has come out very strong…
i really hope serena doesn’t freeze yet again with the pressure. if she loses playing as she can fair enough but it sucks when she just loses it…
Mary Carrillo won’t stop talking about Serena’s groin injury. Sounds like a bit of nonsense, imo.
