Miami Final: (8) Victoria Azarenka v (19) Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Their h2h is 4-4. Most of Svetlana’s wins over Vika were early in Vika’s career. That said, if this was clay I might pick Sveta. Both have been impressive getting to the final. Both have chalked up wins over Serena Williams recently — but Vika has been a little more impressive. Hope Svetlana can keep it interesting and stretch this match to 3 sets.
I’m torn on choosing between these two. I have followed Kuznetsova for some ten years through all her ups and downs. Love her game. She may not have that many more opportunities to be in a Masters final so my heart is ruling my head and I’ll be rooting for her. I also admire the way Sveta has fought her way back into form so I’ll not be unhappy to see her with the trophy. Either way this promises to be a juicy match.
I lost my dish connection and couldn’t watch it. But the score looked like an easy win for Vika — she has the Miami/IW double. And she’ll be up to #5, I think.
Hoping Garbine Muguruza doesn’t get too discouraged after that incredible match and loss to Vika. She could be great at the French and Wimbledon. We need her too!
I had to miss the final too so I’m trying to find time to watch on catch-up. Thought it would be a much tighter match. I’m guessing Sveta fell into her usual trrap of over-playing on the big and racking up too many UEs.
“I feel like I’ve seen it all. But in reality, I haven’t. I live in a privileged world in which the idea of equality is actually entertained. For a majority of women in the world, issues of female infanticide and domestic violence trump simple issues of pay and respect. But when are we going to get to a place as a global community where disrespect and lack of opportunity are no longer the problems reserved for fortunate women?
In the meantime, Billie Jean King tells me that I have a platform, so I plan to use it. Because I, for one, would love for my future daughter to fight for a game down 6-1 2-0 because she hates getting bageled, not because she’s worried that a bagel might undermine her right to equality.”

Poor Caroline Garcia has over 4,000 filthy comments on her Facebook page. It’s not been a great day for the Internet from my POV. Out.
I don’t know what Caroline Garcia is supposed to have said which provoked such a violent reaction from haters although I gather she was being accused of making a rascit comment. It seems obligatory for just about everybody in the public eye to use the social media as a tool to communicate with their public. Sadly it also becomes a double edged weapon in the hands of a disgruntled public baying for blood.
Katowice Quarterfinals:
Jelena Ostapenko continues her march to the sea with a 3 set win over Timea Babos. Ostapenko surprises me. My pick was the more experienced Babos in a tight clash.
Flipkins over Giorgi
Home favorite, Linette over veteran, Parmentier
Cibulkova over Schiavone
Charleston QF’s all look good! Will only pick Kerber – the other’s are too tough to call for me!
Kerber over Begu
Stephens v Kasatkina
Siegemund v Vesnina
Errani v Putintseva
Sunday Finals
Charleston
Stephens over Vesnina
Doubles – Mattek-Sands/Safarova over Garcia/Mladenovic
Katowice
Cibulkova over Giorgi
Camila has been playing well this week but she’s had a tougher time getting to this point than Dominika. Guessing Dominika will have more left for the final but I could be underestimating Camila!
Congrats to Dominika Cibulkova for winning Katowice! Great 1st set but heartbreaking loss for Camila Giorgi – this was her 3rd runner-up in Katowice: 2015 loss to Anna Schmiedlova; 2014 loss to Alize Cornet.
The results will get both players into the top mid-thirties!
After failing to take the TB Vesnina seemed to lose the will to fight back until Stephens was serving for the match when a last ditch rally from Vesnina caused Stephens to need four attempts to clinch the match.

Vika dismisses Konta 4 and 2.
Maybe she’s the best challenger for Nole.
hahaha best challenger for Nole…
Stop it, ?
Who’s your pick? Who do you like versus Vika?
Kerber or Keyes?
Kerber all the way.
#NID
But Vika gonna beat either of them.
Kerber wins easy peasy.
Congrats to Me.
Congrats to you Hawkstradamus – you really are good?.
Wow this kerber azarenka match is actually really good. I was rooting for kerber but azarenka just won. Very high quality match.
outrageous. Absurd. Incredible.
hahahaha …so nice to see you guys, Ricky/Benny, here enjoying the match!
Absolutely jaw-dropping 2nd set from Kerber and Azarenka! Was hoping that Angie could get it to a 3rd set.
Vika v Sveta!! Sveta is in full warrior mode too.
Miami Final
Sveta or Vika?
Who ya got?
Vika. By a lot.
Vika ftw
I think Vika is looking better and better with each match. This is where it stops for Sveta.

Vika wins easily and didnt surrender a single set all week.
Hadn’t been a fan with her loud wailing but what a comeback she’s made. A real contender at the French!
Respect.

It’s great that Vika will be up to #5. This is a great accomplishment for her. Winning the I/W and Miami double! Well done!
I missed the final, but didn’t expect it to be much of a contest.
I do hope that Mugu will continue to play well and get even better. She’s got the game.
I had to miss the final too so I’m trying to find time to watch on catch-up. Thought it would be a much tighter match. I’m guessing Sveta fell into her usual trrap of over-playing on the big and racking up too many UEs.
typo: on the key points…..etc
Congrats to Lucie Safarova and Bethanie Mattek-Sands winning Miami Doubles. Happy to see they are playing Charleston this week.
Both singles and doubles draws look great in Charleston. Charleston is a 470 point event!

Doubles:

Kerber, V. Williams, Bencic, Keys, Stephens, Petkovic, Safarove and Errani are the top seeds in singles
Katowice – a 280 point event:
Aga Radwanska is finally taking a break for her ailing right shoulder. The singles draw is a little thin with out her. But I still like it.

Each time I see the clip of Raymond Moore’s cringe making performance it makes my flesn crawl. He is a creepy, unpleasant MCP with a drink problem.
