  1. I’m assuming the side part is now his permanent dress-up hairstyle, since that’s the one he’s been using lately every time we see him in a suit.

  2. Thanks for the pics A08. I’m hoping to be able to watch the ceremony if L’equipe21 makes it available for replay. Rafa sure looks nice in his suit and I swear you could ski off of his cheekbones.

    • Thanks for the video, augusta. I found the videos after the award even more interesting. The 2nd one is a recap of Rafa’s year. It’s great.

Another one for the collection. The prestigious daily newspaper L’Equipe awarded the best athlete of the year award to Rafael Nadal. Rafa is the newest ‘Champions des Champions’ (Champion of Champions), and figures amongst other athletic greats such as Carl Lewis, Ayrton Senna, Michael Jordan, Michael Schumacher, Zinedine Zidane or Usain Bolt who have also won the award. Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt and the Formula 1 pilot Sebastian Vettel finished second and third, respectively. Congratulations Rafa!

Rafa may have many fans in Paris and France, but French tennis fans ‘adoring him’? No way!

    Obviously, not true.

  5. I am T.R.Y.I.N.G very hard to understand this:

Rafa is Champion of Champions, according to an eminent French Sports publication, ACROSS ALL SPORTS, and yet, according to the ITF, he is not the Champion of his discipline, tennis.

Something is rotten in the state of denmark……………….

  6. “Dimon: There are very few athletes in whom you can trust your life: Michael Jordan in the NBA Finals, Tom Brady in the Super Bowl, Mariano Rivera in a ninth inning and Rafael Nadal at the French Open. Take a ninth French Open title to the bank as next year’s certainty.”

The RICKSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Am on my way to the bank……………….

Now………all you have to do is win AO2014, Rafa……

  7. ritb,
“Now………all you have to do is win AO2014, Rafa……”

I don’t think Ricky would go that far and I’m a bit nervous about Ricky predicting Rafa winning RG.

    • @nadline, that was me imploring Rafa to win AO2014, not Ricky. Sorry you’re nervous about Ricky’s prediction of Rafa winning RG, I’m not. I am happy someone is giving props to Rafa, everybody else seem to diss him…………

  8. ¤¤ Video. Mats Point: Sergi Bruguera on Rafa Nadal. Mats Wilander sits down with two-time French Open champion Sergi Bruguera [Richard Gasquet’s new coach] to talk about Rafael Nadal’s 2013 season. ¤¤
Mats Wilander: “The story of the year was Rafa Nadal’s comeback with two GS titles and he regained the No. 1 ranking. I think he is the best player of the season.” Yes, he is!!!

  9. @vamosrafa, yes the AO said this after Rafa called them to say he would not be coming for AO2013 after all because of a stomach virus. They, like everybody else, had been upbeat about his participation and they said they had even sent him the tournament balls for him to practice with so they were very disappointed when he announced he wasn’t coming.

    • In fact I’ve been thinking that the ITF are getting their own back on Rafa for not playing AO 2013 by making Djokovic their champion. Another thing, Becker said Rafa deserved to lose the final at the WTF, a strange thing to say. Now we know why.
