  1. i’ve just signed up for your pool ratcliff! will fill in my picks later or tomorrow…i have quite a lot of time tomorrow as it is open until 4 british time.

    • Oh good job, amy – it’s easy. After you fill in your picks leave me a note in the comment space at the bottom of your bracket, okay. 🙂

Hope Nny makes it. Alison Hodge is IN.

        • rc do you work backwards with your picks ie starting with the final 2?
seems like a good method if you don’t know much about the wta beyond the top players…

          • oops obviously the knowledge thing wouldn’t apply to you as you know loads about the wta …but for novices like me it would seem to make sense..

          • that is all i am signing up for. i am not doing the atp as that is way too competitive for my taste. wta is just fun and company for rc.

          • i have already signed up for rc’s wta pool but my head swims when i see all the first round players as i don’t know anything about some of them…

          • No, amy, I don’t know loads. I’m just interested and keep learning. Probably spend more time reading WTA than ATP right now. And I helps but certainly does not guarantee anything — it’s a crapshoot!! I have fun with it.

          • Nny, just click on my WTA bracket – private pool:
            http://www.tourneytopia.com/RacquetBracketUsOpenWTA/jalep2/default.aspx

You don’t have to sign up or do an ATP bracket –Ricky’s Tenngrand ATP bracket is a completely different link.

Here’s help for the 1st round — it gives you an idea, if you absolutely don’t know the player. You can choose the one with the best odds. Of course, in the WTA, the odds are less likely to be right than for ATP! lol… As Margot used to tell me – just go for the one ending in ‘ova’ or eva or enko. 😀
Here’s a helpful list of first round winner suggestions:
            http://www.oddsportal.com/tennis/usa/wta-us-open/

Or I can post my picks if you’s like — but I never win! I may do well in the early rounds but the most important picks are of course the Winner, Final, Semi, Quarters – correct picks there give you the most points. Only 1 point given for a 1st round pick.

I started with Serena and filled her in to the final. And did the same at the bottom for Kerber.

          • Right now I have Halep beating Serena and winning the tournament. But …pretty unlikely – I just dearly want her to win a GS.
            Here’s the outright winner odds:

            Williams Serena +136
            Kerber Angelique +782
            Halep Simona +880
            Muguruza Blanco Garbine +910
            Keys Madison +1370
            Kvitova Petra +1980
            Radwanska Agnieszka +2680
            Pliskova Karolina +3160
            Konta Johanna +4075
            Stephens Sloane +4200

          • rc,

Thanks for your help, but I just made my picks blind. As you said, it’s the latter rounds that count the most. I should have started with the final and worked my way backwards.

I should go back in and leave you a comment. I think this is all in good fun and it’s not a big deal if I mess up with the women. I do know my stuff when it comes to the latter rounds and the players I think should get there.

  2. Ok, my picks from the quarters :
Halep over Serena in 3 (Serena is a big question mark as always, but even if she plays really good Halep is a beast right now)
Radwańska over Pliskova in 3 (both in a good form now, Pliskova never gotten thorugh round three in GS, Aga never made it to the quarters at the Us Open. It’s time for a breakthrough though))
Keys over Konta in 2 (I think this is gonna be a big tournament for Madison)
    Kerber over Cibulkova in 2
    SFs:
    Halep over Radwańska in 2
    Keys over Kerber in 3
    F:
Halep over Keys in 3 – it’s finally time for Simona to get her first GS. Obv i’m always backing my compatriot Radwańska, but Halep is probably my favourite player on the WTA tour.

    • I filled in my picks for the women, but u was really lost with the early round picks. I don’t follow the women as closely as the men.

Now I don’t remember who I picked in the latter rounds. I did go with Serena to win, but am not sure about that.

        • rc,

How do I know if my picks are there? It asked me to register after I made my picks. So I am not sure. I also don’t remember how to make a comment.

          • Nny, something happened, I think because you aren’t on the participant list — as administrator, I can go in and look to see who is registered and IN.

Try again and when you are done picking, leave me a hello in the comment box under your bracket! I have to go out but I’ll be back later and check. We’ll get you in somehow 😉

          • rc,

Okay. I thought something was wrong. I have to go out now and when I come back then I will do it again.

        • Safest Pick, I’d guess. Serena over Angie

I have to go have brunch but will when I get back, I’ll post my entire picks — but I choose with my heart on some of them — beware.

          • rc,

I left you a comment on the WTA bracket site. This time I did it right and got a verification number. You can check it out, but I think that I am now good to go.

    • Monica! emitting pure joy. Great picture of her. Tempting to pick her for a good run here but — probably not the best idea. I just hope she continues to win and climb the ranks.

  3. rc i don’t want my name to appear connected to my bracket picks if possible. manwerty was saying this to ricky to do with his pool ie his real name coming up rather than his user name – i thought i too would appear as my username rather than me.
is it possible for this to be fixed please?

  4. When the tennis starts and bracket opens then you can click on each name in the pool and see their picks, leave a comment, and if you want; you’ll see 🙂 Some brackets are silent, no one bothers to look but I check daily — late in the day because it takes tourneytopia so long to update the winner /loser picks.

    • Maybe I should have put in “Ramadan”! That was what autocorrect did to one of my words! But I just put in my user name on this forum.

I really hope that I don’t embarrass myself with my early round picks for the women. With the men, I know do much more about all of them. Even the lower ranked ones. But with the women I only felt comfortable once I got to the fourth round.

Anyway, it’s all in fun! ?

  5. My first round picks. An asterisk * means I’m picking against the odds or some other sentimental reason 🙂

    **Cornet over **Lucic-Baroni
    **Putintseva over **Lisicki,

  6. 2nd round picks

    S.Williams over King
Larsson over Ivanovic –(Larsson is match-tough and Ivanovic is goofing around getting married and such. ytd, 15-15 w/l. Larsson has shown good form in New Haven, ytd 27-22 w/l. Odds favor Ivanovic tho.)
    Kasatkina over Shvedova

Keys over Vandeweghe, Kuznetsova over Strycova, Konta over Bencic

Doi over Vinci (upset alert – guessing Vinci will be gassed after Friedsam and McHale, if Vinci gets this far)

Cibulkova over Begu, Kvitova over Svitolina Yikes!, Kerber over Errani

  8. After thinking it over, I went with Serena. It’s still tough for me to pick against her.

S.Williams over Stosur, Halep over Suarez-Navarro, Radwanska over Bacsinszky, Pliskova over V.Williams, Keys over Kuznetsova, Konta over Muguruza,

    SF
    S.Williams over Radwanska
    Kerber over Keys
    Final: Williams over Kerber

      • Yes! Indian Wells 2015 and Simona trounced her at the WTA Singapore Final in 2014 (but it doesn’t count. First rubber match)

Better that Aga, who is down 10 to zip 🙁

        • Vamos jalepeno!!!!

Dunno why JMac was heavily criticized for coaching Milos while commentating matches and Killer Cahill is not.

Personally, I don’t have a problem with either of them.

          • The coaching rule is technically biased, allowing poor, weak females to get coached and not men. Should be the same for both, imo, either way. But I’m in favor of at least having GS finals being best of 5.

          • I completely agree about that (except I don’t want on court coaching for either).

Off court coaching is good enough for me. Toni is an expert (according to him).

          • We’re tough, we can do 5 sets, it would give those without a big serve weapon a chance to showcase their strength in fitness; and raise the level for big servers to be more ready to run. We run marathons. Not as fast as men but just as capable.

            Petra wins, Bencic wins!
My QF pick, Cibby is in trouble. Rodina took the first set.

          • it’s very infantilising the on court coaching for women. really wish they would stop it. especially the constant visual of the mostly male coach and female player.

      • I think 99% are, Nny. The quarters, semi’s, finals, yes. I may have chickened out on a couple of 1st, 2nd round asterisk ones.

Yeah on my main WTA Tennis Channel/Tourneytopia bracket I left Chirico (bad choice), winning and Naomi Osaka winning (prescient 100% !)

So I have 2 WTA brackets and 3 ATP ones, counting Tennis-x ATP and the main TC ATP. Once I do one, it’s easy to simply repeat/transfer it. But I do wake up at 4 am and switch a pick…not the best idea! lol

      • Nny, sorry it’s confusing. If I could make a separate page for it, I’d do complete ATP Tournament pick for GS’s…as a hint or suggestion, with asterisks, of course.

  9. OMG — had a feeling that Naomi Osaka would beat an over-confident Vandeweghe!
Naomi Osaka out-powered Kiki. 🙂 Go Naomi!

  10. The 20 year old Czeck, Katerina Siniakova beats Bouchard first round. Had a hunch about that one. Siniakova vs Garcia next round. ?

  11. This is a good 2nd set – Vinci v McHale. Vinci still has it but McHale is making a match of it right now – trying to get a set. Vinci to good at net and she has the break. I’m torn about who I want to win it. It’s gonna be Vinci.

Istanbul champion, Buyukakcay, is giving Kvitova trouble. Bencic v Petkovic is good. Belinda won the first set. Been attempting to watch all three matches!

  12. just checked in at the pool. who would have thought it was humanly possible for me to be simultaneously in both first and second place. first as margot, second as me.
yet more examples of my evil perfidious troll nature!!!

    • Amy,

Yes, you do get around! You and Margot are doing very well! I am doing as expected. The women are not my strong suit!

Is it even possible for one person to register as two different people?

      • the women aren’t my strong suit either nny. in any case, the early rounds don’t matter. all the points come in the closing stages.
i am sure margot knows a lot more about the wta than i do…

      • On tennis-x I was accused of having/being a sock puppet named lakie in addition to jalep. It’s not funny after awhile and good way to challenge my sanity. But there is some humor in it …

Every time I responded to lakie it would make me look nuts.

  13. i don’t actually care that much about being called deucey. she’s a great poster so i see it as a compliment really. but the stuff mary writes about deucey or rather margot being a mega-troll leading a lynch mob of hawks, nny, chloro, vr on the old site is extremely offensive. and it is mary’s intention to stalk me and upset me – it just doesn’t work that’s all.
her treatment of nny is what turned me against her right from the beginning as it was really vicious and vile.

    • I’ve noticed. When I was most recently bullied on TX, I emailed Sean Randall and tx staff to moderate a poster or two and they did…for awhile. I have mostly quit posting there. Would not like it if you left here, amy! Ignore, if you can. No one sane thinks you and Margot/deucey are the same person.

      • no i won’t be leaving rc. as i said, it’s water off a duck’s back. i have good friends here in you, hawks, nny, vr, benny and others. tbh all i see when mary attacks me is someone exposing how jealous they are…sorry, that’s what it feels like…maybe she was jealous of margot in the past for similar unknown reasons? i kind of think so.
how is cibby doing? i picked her to go deep..

        • didn’t people stand up for you on tennis-x rc?? i would have done if i was on there as i can’t stand bullying. that’s why i called mary out for attacking nny.
the worst is not the bullies but the people who sit by and do nothing or even go along with them.

          • Should we take up this discussion on the a different page? Would the non-tennis forum be okay? General discussion of resolving the bullying and sock puppet accusations?

          • yes fine rc. let’s not let it get in the way of the tennis. it’s not our fault it’s all blown up today!

        • The jealousy is understandable with Margot because she is so well liked. Just a great all around poster who loves tennis, supports Murray as her favorite player and is gracious to other people. Her reputation speaks for itself.

They are showing kuznetsova/wiz now. I am trying to remember who I picked.

        • Cibby won!
Another QF pick is in trouble…Svetlana Kuznetsova. She started out strong, I stopped watching, now I see Woz has drawn even. Sveta is up and down. She can space out and blow a lead.

What I’m going to ask Ricky is if je’ll start a WTA page pre-GS Racquet Bracket to post complete draw picks, discuss them, trade ideas…Collectively we win 😀

      • amy,

I don’t know if you saw his post, but Hawkeye now agrees with us as to the real identity of Mary.

There is a history as to what happened. But I don’t want to go into it in the forum. It would explain why I am getting the worst of it.

        • yes i have just seen nny. it obviously is her. i won’t say anything on site so don’t worry.
but obviously it is somoene with a grudge against you.
btw has anyone noticed the astonishing resemblance between mary and donald trump!!! it’s remarkable.
if anyone says anything against her she goes full nuclear.

    • rc,

      Thanks for the link!

Did you say that Cibby won? I checked and I did pick her.

But now I am worried about kuznetsova. I also didn’t know that Woz had fallen so low in the rankings. They are now showing Isner and Darcis. Darcis hanging in there in a third set tb.

  14. “Oh, and Caroline, if you ever need a reminder of the love you’ve received, just grab that teddy bear from back in the day.

I still have it, so it will be there for you over the years.

I take it all over the world with me on my travels. Still. To this day.

And, without fail, every time I pack that bear into my travel bag, the same thing happens. I look at him, and pause for a second, and then I think of how lucky I am to have been shown so much love over the years, and I can’t help but smile.”

    • Konta is having some kind of heat issue. They showed people working on her as she was laying on the court with an ice pack on her neck. I hope she is okay.

Isner got through just in the nick of time in his match, but he doesn’t seem to be feeling all that well.
