Thank you for posting this, Gussie! A calm, factual post about Rafa’s tribulations from a true Rafan. Just facts. No nonsense conjecture, wild extrapolations/conclusions or jingoism. Just. Plain. Facts.

As @CJSTanner says, if it had been Rafa’s rivals, one wonders if they would have coped with the same dignity. If it was Fed suffering the same calamities, we would have been inundated with posts/blogs instructing/telling/threatening/imploring us to symphathise with him, not write him off, that he still had a Slam in him blah, blah, blah……

But for Rafa, it’s his fault he had appendicitis………..welp!

  1. Who ever said that it was Rafa’s fault that he had appendicitis? I don’t get that at all. I don’t see anyone here blaming Rafa for that. Why would we? It’s obviously something over which he had no control.

As for this post from a “real” Rafa supporter, it’s not saying anything that we all don’t know. Rafa fans know exactly what he’s had to deal with since RG. We don’t need it regurgitated ad infinitum. Why? Because this guy on the tennis channel Brett Haber asked the question – is this the beginning of the end?

Some here had no problem decrying Fed’s decline and stating that he would never win another slam, was through, done, whatever. I felt that he would win one more slam and he did at the 2012 Wimbledon. Then he had his worst year in 2013. Once again there was speculation that he was in decline. But he came back in 2014 and had a much better year getting his ranking back to #2.

I think some here have a chip on their shoulder and get too defensive over every little thing that is said. I also do not understand the need to insert Fed into any discussion by lamenting – if it was Fed this wouldn’t happen or that wouldn’t happen. Rafa is Rafa and Fed is Fed. They are two different people and deal with their careers in very different ways. End of story.

This sentence applies to your, NNY!

(By the way, I am wondering why you call yourself “we”?)

      • ^^Well you could have fooled me! ROFL…………

Surely you mean, “people are entitled to give their opinion if they so wish but if I do not like their opinion I am ENTITLED to put them down?”

        *eye-roll*………….

      • augusta,

That’s your response? That’s the best you can do? I am calling myself “we”? Did you read that sentence? If you can’t understand I am talking about Rafa fans, so the use of the word “we” makes perfect sense.

        ritb,

The “eyeroll”, the use of music videos entitled “Shake off the Dirt” as a supposed response to someone’s comment that you don’t like are kind of insulting.

You also posted a comment about it being so nice to be a grown up. Maybe you should act on that comment. It’s okay to disagree. It’s okay to have different opinions without making fun of others.

Nope, it doesn’t make sense when you respond to a Rafa fan.

      • @nny please don’t feed the @octoburro10 troll

I am wondering why someone named @octoburro10 (aka @augustan08) has “Fed was honored to be the first member of the club ’20 losses to Rafa’. Vamos!” on EVERY post they make on a tennis forum. Sounds like starting a fight in an empty room to Me, for sure, no? #burroFanatic #PotMeetsKettle

      ^^Great post !!

The reference to several instances of doubting Federer again and again is quite relevant. And it is only natural that talks about rafa being on an ‘inevitable decline’ will be brought up more frequently now and that is understandable.

      • vamosrafa,

I agree that talk about Rafa’s decline is going to be brought up. We can’t control what other people say. Brett Haber asked a question. That’s all. This is why I avoid reading other sites like tennis-x or other bloggers after Rafa loses. I find it a lot easier to deal with his losses if I just avoid all of the inevitable chatter that is always not flattering to him.

    • nativenewyorker7 says: February 23, 2015 at 5:56 am

I don’t need to reference anyone on this forum for every opinion I give in my posts. Where do I say someone on this forum said what I said? You seem determined to read and counter everything I say, good luck with that.

If I call the referenced poster a real Rafa fan , what is your problem with that? It is my opinion, not yours. Give your opinion and leave mine alone. You are the one with a chip on your shoulder and overly defensive. Again, good luck with that.

I will insert Fed in any post I want, you are not obliged to read or like it.

      Thank you.

      • ritb,

You can lose the paranoia. However, you should know that anyone and everyone is free to respond to comments on this forum. That includes you. I am sorry that you find this so annoying, but that’s how it is. People are also free to respond and disagree or counter anything I say. That’s how it goes.

      • @nny please don’t feed the @octoburro10 troll

        NNY, please feed hawkeye63!
Just write: “you are cracking me up, hawk…” and he’ll be over the moon.
(It is based on long-term observations).

        🙂

      • @nny, see, you CAN write to me directly instead of resorting to passive aggressive references to “some” “others” blah, blah, blah, which is what you do when you want to start a fight. Well done!

And the crack about me being annoyed at people responding to my posts? Nice try!

No, I was annoyed at YOU for trolling my post. But then again, you have been trolling my posts for a while now, looking for a rise from me. Tried ignoring you, in the interests of peace and good neighbourliness. But you just wouldn’t let go, would you? And in a moment of weakness, I rose to the bait.

Sorry, henceforth, I am going to have to disappoint you: this is the last time you get a rise out of me. I am resigned to the fact that you find my posts interesting, that you will read them avidly and respond, directly or indirectly, positively and/or negatively, bait me, whatever. I am okay with that, now I am. It’s the price I have to pay for being interesting I suppose. To paraphrase you, that’s how it goes.

In the interests of reciprocity, I will read your posts and try really, really hard to find them interesting.

Please excuse any grammatical mistakes in my post, English is a second language to me.

    • ^^^^ROFL

According to my sister I snored my way through 7/8s of the match.

But I am wondering if now the Fog has tasted success he might take his tennis a bit more seriously and start being more consistent.
