Just noticed the Doha dates. Not a hope in hell of being able to watch with a houseful of guests the whole week and cooking dinner for 12 on new year’s eve 🙁
^^^Hahaha! @hawkeye63 is jealous. He can’t bear the thought of us “drooling” over Rafa……
Hmmm, let’s see……..sexy WTA ladies? The only one who qualifies for such a label is the ultimate “pocket rocket”, Dominika Cibulkova, in my considered opinion!
So sorry, @hawkeye, not much to see there…………next!
^^^@hawkeye63, I DARE you to share the above link on Roger-X blog. Not only will you be ex-communicated, you will be hung, strung and quartered, for all to see………………..
SI: “There have been better tennis years than Nadal’s 2013. But I can’t remember one that impressed me more. In January, Nadal was finishing a seven-month layoff…He finishes the year at No. 1 in the world.”
Thank you @augusta08, this graph really, really sums up Rafa’s achievements in 2013. Indeed, anyone who thinks Rafa is not the true #1, or that Djokovic upstaged Rafa with his Fall run, is crazy………………
Here’s a link for tonite’s Exho between Rafa and Nalbandian. It starts at 9:15 local time in Cordoba, Argentina. It’s been shown on the public television station. This link brings you to the website and you’ll see the upcoming programs. Just click on the Rafa/David square to watch. http://www.tvpublica.com.ar/
Nalbandian. 6/4 7/6 in a tiebreak. They played seriously at times…other times, lots of lobbing and show off type stuff and they were even hitting balls back and forth when it was clearly out. It was a nice mixture of entertainment and tennis.
There was no way that Rafa was going to “win” that match. The night was a celebration for David and David had very nice words for Rafa in the post match celebration. David clearly appreciated Rafa being there.
Rafa and David played almost in Nalbandian’s hometown. David was born and still lives in Unquillo that is located about 22 km from Córdoba where this farewell event for him was held.
Rafa in his Facebook and Twitter: “Today I had the opportunity to know Unquillo, the hometown of my friend David Nalbandian.” They have a great friendship. https://twitter.com/RafaelNadal/status/403639008695431168/photo/1

This picture reminds me of the picture we all fretted over during Spain’s DC match where Rafa was not bending/could not bend his knees in a full squat like the rest of his team-mates. The same is happening here:
“I had the good luck and the bad luck to coincide with practically the two best players in the history of world tennis… Roger broke all the records, and Rafa is on the brink. To have shared this great era with them, to have beaten them, lost to them and been at this level has given me a lot of pride.”

hawkeye, Fed did not break that record of consecutive wins on clay. Rafa broke the record. Fed merely stopped Rafa from extending it even further.
I know you know this, but it just didn’t sound right written that way 🙂

I think, it’s a strange idea to let players play in cold conditions! Hopefully, Rafa didn’t get sick by playing in the cold. https://twitter.com/RafaelNadalFC/status/403989605138960384/photo/1

I’ll start one called “Genie Bouchard” if that works.

Actually, got it from Giles who had posted it already. Did Giles post on TT by any chance?
Gilles Simon?
^^^… on Roger-X already.

Love it.
maria kirilenko is web page worthy also.
And a nostalgia page for Anna Kournikova goes without saying is a must, no?
Ricky, don’t listen to @hawkeye63…………..this is a family site.
Rafa, otoh, in his Armani smalls can never be rated x, yes?
Have a laugh:

Rafa and Mike Bryan took a picture together at the NeckerCup. What happened to them ?!

Thinking that the following will be censored over on Roger-X.com so will post it here too for posterity:
Well Fed IS ABSOLUTELY the greatest player of all time whose played that many majors at 27+.
As you said, he’s won 5 out of 22 attempts – 23% conversion.
Rafa only has two so far (out of 3 attempts) at 27+ – 67% conversion.

That should say, it’s “being shown”…not “been shown.”

who won Nadal v. Nalbandian?
Nalbandian. 6/4 7/6 in a tiebreak. They played seriously at times…other times, lots of lobbing and show off type stuff and they were even hitting balls back and forth when it was clearly out. It was a nice mixture of entertainment and tennis.
Rafa couldn’t send his friend off with a loss now, could he?
There was no way that Rafa was going to “win” that match. The night was a celebration for David and David had very nice words for Rafa in the post match celebration. David clearly appreciated Rafa being there.
I know that Rafa and David are good friends, so I am not surprised that he would let him go out on a winning note.
I am sure they both had a good time.

RITB: I thought exactly the same thing when I saw that picture.

Such grace….
Thank you, David. All the best to you!
Just one ipsy, bitty, tinny winny bit of exaggeration – Roger has not broken any clay records.
^^True, but we will forgive David that mistake. I am sure he did not want to appear like he was belittling Fed in Rafa’s presence……..
Most runner ups?
Most titles on blue clay?
How soon we forget, no?
Confirmed. Guillermo Vilas previously held the record for French Open Runner Up with three.
Roger broke that clay record in 2011 against Rafa.

Well, a GOAT award no-one can argue about:
“Rafa Nadal was declared the best Spanish athlete in history by a poll made in Marca & he will receive the honor on 26/11/13 in Callao, Madrid
Via @cami_melescanu —”
I think those were some gracious words from David. I am pleased that he was able to give credit to both Fed and Rafa. He’s a class act.
