19 Comments on Daily picks

  1. I don’t know about Evans beating Chardy in 2.
If you look at their H2H, which is 5 matches, Chardy only failed to win a set once.

  2. Monday

    Halle
    Pospisil in 3
    Goffin in 3
    Thompson in 2
    Federer 2
    Bautista Agut 2

    Queen’s Club
    Sinner in 3
    Norrie 3
    Lopez 3
    Karatsev 2
    Millman in 2
    Mannarino 2
    Sonego 2

  3. Fourth round:
Djoker over Garin in 3 (duh)
Rublev over Fucsovics in 4 (these two have played a ton recently, I could see this going five maybe but Rublev has the clear edge in the matchup and there’s no reason to think grass changes that much)
Korda over Khachanov in 5 (before this tourney, Korda would have been a pretty easy pick for me but Khachanov has truly rounded back into form which makes him dangerous for anybody; that being said, I like Korda’s chances of eventually getting to a Djoker semifinal)
Shapo over RBA in 5 (shapo was my pick for the semis at the start of the tournament and I still expect him to at least get to the quarters)
Berrettini over Ivashka (one way traffic)
Zverev over Auger-Aliassime in 4 (I might pick Felix if it weren’t for the H2H)
Fed over Sonego in 3 (kind of a dream draw for Fed, I personally believe Norrie is tougher right now than Sonego)
Medvedev over Hurkacz in 4 (I expect four very close sets between the world number two and the Pole who hasn’t dropped a set all tournament)

  4. Saturday

    Hamburg
Carreno Busta over Delbonis in 3
    Djere over Krajinovic in 3

    Bastad
Hanfmann over Coria in 3 (maybe 2)
Ruud over Carballes Baena in 2

  5. Sunday

    Hamburg
Carreno Busta in 2 is VERY optimistic. Sure, he can win 2-0 if he gets the 1st set and fortunately runs away with it, but it’s not looking that way on paper. Krajinovic can win, but I like the PCB money-line play here. PCB is tough and won’t roll over like the others, and I think Krajinovic’s wins could be more suspect. Delbonis was getting tired, but he’s a seasoned, in-form clay court player. Krainovic has beaten PCB on hard court in their only meeting, so this is a tough match.

    Bastad
Ruud over Coria in 2 (maybe 3). Coria is flying and will probably need to improve again to take a set off Ruud. How much more upside does Coria have during this hot streak? That’s the question. I’m sure Ruud is keen to win on home soil without dropping a set certifying his position as one of the world’s best clay-court players.

    Newport
Anderson v Brooksby looks super-competitive also. I’ll take a close look at that later.

      • Krajinovic to win is My Best bet of the day. He been playing above 100% while Busta been close to his topform, but not quite playing his Best yet. Krajinovic leads the h2h 2-1 (1-1 on Clay) but given Krajinovic been playing on another level this whole tournament, I think He got the egde here. Krajinovic wins today in 2 tight sets.

        • My data only goes back 5 years because I think anything longer than 5 (or even 3 years) becomes irrelevant.

I just had a look and saw they played in a challenger or qualifying twice and split 1:1 on clay.

I agree Krajinovic can win. Good luck!

        • You will need luck also because Krajinovic is one of the most inconsistent/unreliable players on tour. Not quite as bad as Shapovalov but certainly right up there!

  6. That was onesided. I was completely wrong here, Krajinovic never showed up, easiest match for Busta this tournament.
