38 Comments on Daily picks

  1. I’ll take Groth in 2 due to beckers recent struggles and Groth’s serve alone and I’ll take nick in 3 because the surface should get him the win but it’s hard to tell what version of him will show up and whether giraldo can make most of his opportunities. In Shenzhen I’m going with millman in 3 because gulbis is gulbis and I’m going with duckworth in three tough sets. This one could go either way if krajicek is playing well. If krajicek isn’t playing well he could lose in 2 and same goes for duckworth so I’m just gonna take the Aussie in three mainly cuz krajicek lost in three sets to Takanyi Garanganga early in the Columbus challenger. Sorry but that isn’t very promising result lol.

  2. Kuala Lumpur:
Troicki over Albot in 3 (potential upset here)
Zverev over Chardy in 3 (toss-up in my mind)
Pospisil over Uchiyama in 2 (good draw for Pospy)
Almagro over Baghdatis in 3 (another toss-up for me)
Basilashvili over Nedovyesov in 3 (basilashvili is less streaky)
Kukushkin over Ramanathan in 2 (Kukushkin is doing pretty well lately)
Nieminen over Ito in 2 (he’s nearly retired so he’ll be determined to get a winnable match like this done)
Stepanek over Sugita in 3 (Sugita is a bit inconsistent so this is good opportunity for struggling Stepanek)

  3. Shenzhen:
Chung over Wu in 2 (Chung is coming off of a challenger title)
Vesely over Ze Zhang in 3 (potential for upset but I don’t see it happening)
Bedene over Youzhny in 2 (don’t know about this one but I’m taking bedene in two competitive sets)
Istomin over Rosol in 2 (I think he’s in better form than Rosol right now)
Soeda over Zhizhen Zhang in 2 (zhang is big underdog here)
Haider-Maurer over Bolelli in 3 (AHM is more reliable)
Pouille over Mannarino in 3 (Pouille can score the upset here)
Berankis over Moriya in 2 (berankis is playing well)
Bai over Niki in 2 (good opportunity for both)
Ebden over Estrella Burgos in 3 (I give Ebden an edge on this surface)

  4. Predictions for tomorrow (Wednesday):
    Kuala Lumpur:
    Chardy over Becker in 3
    Sousa over Przysiezny in 3
    Karlovic over Basilashvili in 2
    Kyrgios over Ito in 2
    Zverev over Ram in 2
    Shenzhen:
    Vesely over Zhang in 2
Bolelli over Estrella Burgos in 3
    Berdych over Krajicek in 2
    Robredo over Moriya in 2

  5. Kuala Lumpur:
Baghdatis over Pospisil in 3 (should be match of the day or one of them at least)
Lopez over Zverev in 2 (I feel like there is potential for upset here but I’m taking Lopez in two close sets)
Dimitrov over Sousa in 2 (fatigue will catch up with Sousa)
Ferrer over Stepanek in 3 (ferrer is rusty but will get through anyway)
Kukushkin over Albot in 2 (Kukushkin is playing well and Albot is pretty nice draw for him)

  6. Shenzhen:
Mannarino over Bai in 2 (easy pickings for Adrian thought it’ll be interesting to see if Bai can challenge)
GGL over Rosol in 3 (GGL should be a bit too solid)
Cilic over Millman in 3 (millman has nothing to lose but Marin will win)
Chung over Bedene in 3 (Chung was super impressive against Wu and will score the minor upset here)

  7. Well done to us on today’s predictions cuz we only missed Pospisil baghdatis. Only match left is ferrer stepanek which is at 5-5 in the first set.

  8. I’ll take these picks for the QF:
Kyrgios over Karlovic in 3 (toss up to me)
Lopez over Pospisil in 3 (in his form, this could be straights, too, but I’ll give Pospisil a set)
Dimitrov over Becker in 3 (Grigor could actually lose this imo)
Ferrer over Kukushkin in 3 (there is chance for an upset but I’ll take ferrer in three)
Bolelli over Robredo in 3 (tough call)
Berdych over Vesely in 3 (I actually think vesely could get the upset but I’ll take berdych in three)
Chung over Cilic (probably a bad pick but why not)
GGL over Mannarino in 2 (I’m going with GGL in two tight sets)

  9. For tomorrow’s semis in Kuala Lumpur I’m taking ferrer in 2 over Becker and kyrgios in 3 over Lopez. Ferrer has been solid and Becker has too but ferrer should be able to get through relatively simply. The Lopez kyrgios will be awesome match though. I think it could go either way and may end in like a third set breaker. Kyrgios has been really impressive and same with Lopez so it’s a toss up for me so I’m gonna go with kyrgios because he seems more motivated to perform well lately and hasn’t caused any havoc in Malaysia so far.

  10. For Shenzhen, I’m picking berdych over Robredo in 2 because berdych has looked sharper this week and his bagel breadstick of Robredo earlier this season gives me no reason to choose against berdych at all even though Robredo has played well here especially last year when he barely lost to Murray. I think cilic will beat Garcia-Lopez in 3 in the other semi as GGL should prove a tough match but I think cilic has a slight edge in form though an upset is very possible here if GGL plays great and cilic comes out flat like he can at times.

  11. Nice picks. Lopez in 3 makes sense too. I’m honestly pretty neutral in who I’m rooting for as I like to watch both of those players and I’m pretty neutral on who I think will win too. I just gave kyrgios edge because I feel he will get more opportunities to break unless he all of a sudden starts playing badly here in Kuala Lumpur because right now he is playing great and Lopez is in good form too so this should be a really interesting matchup.

  12. I feel that feli is in better form and will use his big game to win the final in three sets over ferrer. Btw Beijing draw is really good. Standout match imo is nishikori coric.

  13. I haven’t been following Kuala Lumpur. I didn’t even check to see if the tennis channel is televising it. I have been waiting for Rafa to come back.

Rafa’s draw in Beijing could be a bit tricky. His first opponent is someone named Di Wu. I have never heard of this guy. He’s got Tsonga, Goffin and Berdy in his part of the draw. I don’t know what to expect. I just hope that Rafa can get a decent result.

  14. But Gussie you have to know somebody has made an error.

    You are either physic
    Have an encyclopaedic knowledge
    or a photographic memory

    Possibly all three.

I knew that Nishikori wasn’t in the Beijing draw. I posted the draw on Rafa’s page (on Saturday at 7:19 am). It’s easy to find the Tokyo draw that was also released on Saturday.
      Simple. πŸ™‚

      • Unfortunately short term memory is the first part of the brain to deteriorate.

There is a saying ‘when you can recall the name of who you set next to on your first day at school but not what you eat for lunch, then you know you are getting old’.

        I’ve reached that stage πŸ™
I have trouble remembering who I watched playing and where yesterday.

  15. Tokyo:
Ito over Nishioka in 3 (right now Nishioka is up so this is prob a bad pick lol)
Querrey over Dolgopolov in 3 (Querrey won last time and Dolgo can be streaky)
Nishikori over Coric in 2 (home court advantage is main reason for me)
Vesely over Uchiyama in 2 (vesely has been pretty good lately and should be too tough)

  16. In fact I don’t really know why but I think experience will trump youth and Ito will win but now I’m thinking nishioka is probably a better pick. I’ll be rooting for nishioka anyways lol.

  17. Beijing:
Tsonga over Haider-Maurer in 2 (if Jo is playing bad I think an upset could be brewing)
Raonic over Troicki in 2 (troicki couldn’t beat a player in the top 40 right now so yeah)
Seppi over Goffin in 3 (I’m going with an upset here)
Istomin over Zhang in 3 (I’ll give Zhang a set just because Istomin isn’t that great lately)
Klizan over Fognini in 3 (taking an upset in what’s a toss up matchup to me)
Bedene over Rosol in 2 (probably a little bit of bias lol still I have a feeling about this one)
Gabashvili over Sock in 3 (I’m taking the big hitting Russian in an upset win since sock hasn’t played since U.S. Open and will be rustier and plus Gabashvili barely lost to RBA in Metz so he’s not playing badly right now)
