  1. Sock making quarters beating Tsonga and Cilic on the way is such a homer pick lol.

But we do see eye-to-eye with Raonic and Zverev battling it out for that quarter.

    Hawkstradamus’ analyes the draw here…

    QF:
    Fed over Murray
    Kyrgios over Tsonga
    Raonic over Zverev
    Nole over Goffin

    SF
    Nole over Milos
    Fed over Kyrgios
    F
    Fed over Nole

    #RiggedDraws
    #BEL18VE

  2. The draws are done in front of a panel full of people, i doubt they would rig them just for one particular player, the whole thing gets brought up before every GS even starts the whole thing is complete nonsense ….

  3. I noticed you predicted Dudi Sela defeating Granollers. I hope that happens. Sela looks primed for a good year in Canberra after his 21st challenger title.

  4. This is one of the most interesting slams I have ever seen actually. And those predictions are going to be BOLD as ****

    QFs:
In Murray’s quarter, i’m ultra-confident that Andy will play the quarters. I’m gonna say it is going to be in fact Federer who will try to take down the world no.1 in the qfs. The result? Depending on how much energy Fed loses playing against Berdy and the Japanese Samurai. If Nishikori had any real opponents in his quarter, I would have said Kei bails out even before 4R but his route to the Fed match is probably going to be something like Kuznetsov, Almagro/Chardy, Sela/Ramos I guess it’s gonna be against Kuznetsov or not gonna happen. Also, another boldie pick, Melzer takes a set off Fed.
    Geez, i’m such a FedTard
    Federer over Murray in 4

The 2nd quarter is hella open. Kyrgios has such an easy route to the 4R, his fitness is in question, but if he’s 100 percent he’s gonna beat the Crybaby Stan. Second quarterfinalist should be out of Cilic/Sock less likely a somehow reborn Bernie Tomic, gonna say Sock as he was amazing in the Hopman Cup and Auckland and actually after the Kovalik loss I think even Jerzy Janowicz has a chance against Marin Cilic (I’m such a PolishTard too)
    Kyrgios over Sock in 4

I do not think Nadal comes out of the second quarter. I don’t think we know much about Raonic’s form just after Brisbane but in a BO5 he should be able to beat Rafa. And I don’t even think Rafa gets through Zverev. It’s high time for a major breakthrough of another nextgen player.
Zverev (Alexander obv) over Raonic in 5

This quarter has Djokovic written all over the way. Verdasco is not going to beat him in a best of 5, Djokovic is going to be ready this time. But, as I said in the beginning my predictions here are super bold. As you know, I’m a DimiTard too, been picking him far the whole last year, sometimes it worked like in Cincy where some of you guys laughed when I picked him to the semis before the tournament, sometimes it failed like when I thought he was going to beat Djoko in Paris. But, holy cow, It’s just what my hunch is. Djokovic gets taken out in r4, and Thiem loses to Sousa in R2.
    Dimitrov over Goffin in 4

    SFs
    Federer over Kyrgios in 4
If Murray beats Fed, he wins this as well
    Dimitrov over Zverev in 3
Same goes for Djokovic if he’s through to the semis.

    Final
    Federer over Dimitrov in 4

This won’t happen. But it would be a great tournament with a great story.

  5. must say that i too fear that rafa will lose to zverev. said as much yesterday. am hoping that carlos gets him through this match. still think carlos has a kind of inner strength and calm which will be good for rafa. think he can make rafa believe in himself more. hope so anyway…

    • I don’t know what to think about Rafa/Zverev. I would like to think that Rafa can step up for this match and make it through to the fourth round. It would be good for him to fight through against one of the young guys and come through with a win. I hope he can find a way.

  6. amy is back with her troll comments. Did you not promise on tennisx that you won’t be back?
Do you honestly think Carlos can have a huge impact on Rafa just because he joined the team? Rafa has known him for ages, hit with him umpteen times, he is Rafa’s neighbor and he has been Rafa’s mentor. Why would Carlos just joining the team change Rafa’s mental status dramatically?
If Rafa wins, it will be because he is Rafa, not because somebody else has inner strength and calm!

  7. Go Rafa go. Hardly anyone trusts you these days to do anything , go prove them all wrong and make them eat their words.

Semi to me for rafa will be good result

    • That’s because Rafa hasn’t trusted himself so why would we?

He can but not before he trusts himself.

      Hawkstradamus will when Rafa does.

      #NothingNew

    • Agree with you here Sanju, SF will be good result. I do think the aggressive Rafa can do damage here, not the defensive one though; hopefully the aggressive one comes to play.

  8. I wonder if a zverev who just beat Federer in Hopman would have been chosen or picked to beat Federer had he faced him in 3rd round

        • Hope he does too sanju.

I’d have picked Fed too because fed still believes in himself and has played at a high level consistently.

Rafa is finally starting to talk the talk. I’m hoping he can back it up soon if not in Australia.

Based on form (little data) and respective perceived confidence, plus draws and schedule, I see fed going deeper than Rafa.

Fed will at least make quarters IMO but I think quarters is as far as Rafa will get.

Zverev, Monfils and Raonic in succession is a tough ask for Rafa ATM. Doubt Fed would be able to do it either. But Fed has an easier path to quarters IMO.

        • I don’t think it’s question of respect at all. I think it’s not knowing what to expect. I already made the point that I picked Rafa to get to the final last year at the AO. We all know what happened. That was my heart over my head.

I am not prepared to do it again. I am hoping for the best result for Rafa as always. But I am being realistic, given that he has not been able to get past the early rounds in slams for the last year or two. I don’t think he is ready to make a run at the AO. That is just my opinion based on recent history with Rafa. It has precisely nothing whatsoever to do with any lack of respect.

I think Rafa can beat Zverev, for what it’s worth. I would like to see it happen. But I do not think with the opponents in his section of the draw, that he will get to the semis.

Nothing would make me happier than if Rafa proves me wrong.

  9. It is clear nobody thinks Rafa is a serious contender for the title. It makes me sad but I understand. Rafa hasn’t been in contention for two years. At this stage, that is before the tournament begins, I think, like Sanju, I would be happy if Rafa gets to the semis. But if he does get to that stage, I am sure my expectations are going to rise!

      • That’s true. I guess I’m looking at it from a confidence stand point because Muller is coming off of the best week of his career by finally capturing the maiden title. I have a feeling this propels him to keep that high level here and upset the big serving Canadian and keep it going until Rafa takes him down in the final eight.

    • Fed’s draw is godly. This is why I’m actually fairly confident Roger can do some real damage here and if he gets far enough and still has energy that’s trouble for his opponents.

    • Especially given that Rafa would likely not be that fresh if he’s able to take down Zverev and Lamonf in succession. Then to beat Raonic just to get to Murray?

      Much tougher draw than Fed.

If Rafa had Feds path to quarters, I’d give him a good chance against Murray. Rafa does pretty good as the decided underdog especially in slams.

        • I do not think Fed can win the AO. Even a favorable draw is not going to be enough. Murray is a different player than the one Fed faced in the past.

I must confess to being surprised at this idea that Fed can make a serious run here. Rafa does have a tougher path and that may be too much for him in the first slam of the year. I hope that Rafa can get some wins here Ns still think that fourth round of at best, or quarterfinals would be a good result that he can build on as he moves forward.

  11. Rafa has to get past Nole to get to Murray. If he beats Raonic, do you think beating Nole is a given? Unless Rafa is able to play his forehand and backhand dtl to take time away from speedy Nole, I would give Nole the edge as this is Nole’s favorite surface. But of course as a fan I would be hoping and praying that Rafa gets to the final, beats Muzz or whoever is the other finalist and completes a double career slam! I would like Fed to be the other finalist but frankly I do not see Fed getting past his quarter.

    • Nole in QF yes my mistake. Goes to show I haven’t seriously considered Rafa making it that far.

Nole is also not at 100%. Showed good signs in Dubai but that was one match against Murray.

Murray is not used to being No 1 top dog and we are yet to see how he responds to that target on his head.

It’s generally easier to get there than to stay there.
