Stefanos Tsitsipas went 1-for-20 on break points during his 5-7, 6-4, 7-6(3) loss to Evgeny Donskoy in the first round of the Mutua Madrid Open on Tuesday. Tsitsipas converted one of 14 chances–enough to take the opening set–before going 0-for-4 in the second and 0-for-2 in the third.
Donskoy–who once went 1-for-21, himself, in a 2017 French Open setback–eventually pulled off the upset in two hours and 41 minutes.
Still in great form this spring (highlighted by a runner-up showing in Barcelona) and perhaps welcoming a much-needed break (pun intended) for the rest of the week, Tsitsipas appeared to see the humor in his break-point mishaps. The 19-year-old Greek took to Twitter following his loss, posing questions to both the ATP and the Guinness Book of World Records.
@ATPWorldTour what’s the record of most lost break points in a match (by a player)?

@GWR can I apply?

good stuff
Yeah good stuff. He knows what went wrong, I’m sure he’ll learn from his mistakes. The boy is a very likable character, I hope he can stay humble even when he becomes more famous and successful in future.
Love this new player on the scene…and his sense of humor!
