  2. Roger’s “I’m sick too” moment…

Roger Federer called that his “greatest escape”. Said it was all luck. Feels Mayer deserved it and feels bad. Also dealing with a cold.

  3. Here is a historical list of the 20th ranked over-30 tennis player. For example, today there are 20 tennis players in their 30’s in the Top 67.

In 1996, there were only five 30+ players in the Top 67 and you’d have to look at the Top 326 to find 20 such players at that time.

    Today – 67
    2012 – 75
    2011 – 77
    2010 – 125
    2009 – 116
    2008 – 124
    2007 – 152
    2006 – 140
    2005 – 122
    2004 – 139
    2003 – 142
    2002 – 186
    2001 – 185
    2000 – 198
    1999 – 294
    1998 – 227
    1997 – 308
    1996 – 326

  4. So Federer for the umpteenth time is nominated for the ‘Sportsman of the Year’ award.
This year he is a genuine candidate – more so than any of the others on the list IMO –
but as Cheryl once asked after he’d won it in the year he was also fined for unsporting behaviour ‘ What PRECISELY makes a Sportsman of the Year? I mean, what’s the criteria?’

Hands up anybody who remembers this blog

  5. Ricky says: “why is Djokovic not on this?”

For getting his girlfriend pregnant and then making an honest woman of her 😀

  6. It would help to understand the choices if the nominations included the citation for each player. This may be churlish of me but I can’t help feeling it sends out the wrong message to include Cilic at this point in time because he won the USO.

    • Passive aggressive Fed, as usual.

Fed’s implication is that his decision making would be different from Rafa’s, that he himself always does things the right way. Guess he’s already forgotten that just last year he entered extra tournaments and played poorly which he blamed on his bad back and said afterwards that in hindsight he never should have played.

Did Rafa ever question Fed’s decision making then? No, because it is not his style. He has class. But then, what else is gonna hoist Fed into the headlines these days? Oh of course, beating up on an over-rated David Goffin in Basel.

    • Where did I say I have not made disparaging remarks towards Fed?? At least have the guts to show me the post.

And why do I have to be nice about Fed, especially if he is not nice about Rafa?

      • I laughed out loud the first time I read it. No hostility towards Fed on tenngrand? Just own it like Ruan does. You cannot be serious. Hilarious @rafaisthebest! Truly epic. You outdid yourself.

Here’s my guts for you. You’re welcome. Maybe, in the future, you can return the favour.

Maybe it’s my over-developed gallows humour, but I have not seen any hostility towards Fed here on Tenngrand, especially since he hasn’t beaten Rafa in ages and is not a threat to Rafa anymore as he gets older. I think most people here treat him more like an annoying Uncle now………..

      • Bingo! Knew you would drag that out. Okay, listen carefully: I meant the general Tenngrand community is not hostile to Fed, that does not have to include me. Okay? i.e. everybody is nice towards Fed except me.

Interesting, but not surprised, that you see hostility in my comment about Fed’s comment and choose to zero in on that but choose to ignore Fed’s hostile (in my view) comments about Rafa’s decisions. You are a tennis fan, I am just a Rafan.

      • Everyone but you? Incredulous. You’re joking right? 95% of people here are hostile towards Fed (including yours truly, just not to the same extent as non-tennis fans).

There’s only about five regular posters left. Ricky is basically the only poster left not hostile towards Fed.

Makes for a very unbalanced site but ok. But at least see it for what it is.

Oh you and gussie are so special! Not only can’t the rest be good Rafans, but now you have exclusive rights to hostility towards Fed!

        You’ve outdone yourself again.

        Hilarious!

      • “Exclusive hostility towards Fed!”

Hmmm, that has a nice ring to it, I’ll take it! Shame I can’t own it since, as you say, 95% of people here are hostile towards Fed, you included.

As for this site being unbalananced, whose fault is that? Thanks for trying, but I certainly do not feel an obligation to “balance” it up!

You really think me and Gussie are special? I like that, thank you! ;D

      • And seriously, ***OF COURSE*** you weren’t including yourself in your post.

        It’s so ***OB-vious*** now.

Don’t know ***HOW*** I missed it.

***HOOOOW*** did I ***EVER*** doubt you.

(Maybe @augusta08, our local WordPress and being a proper Rafan expert, can show me how I might infuse my posts with dripping sarcasm. I try my best for sure, no? But alas, I’m just a poor tennis fan victim forced to leave tenngrand. sniff. sniff. God it’s KILLING me!!!)

      • You were FORCED to leave Tenngrand?? Is that why it is so fragrant around here?? So, who the hell am I talking to, myself?

      • “Sarcasm I now see to be, in general, the language of the Devil; for which reason I have, long since, as good as renounced it. ”
So said Thomas Carlyle, Sartor Resartus (1833-1834), book II, ch. IV

Now you know why I refuse to have any truck with sarcasm………….
