  2. It was clearly an impulsive emotional gesture of solidarity with his countrymen – not the premeditated decision to influence floating voters at the 11th hour as some suggested.
    Good for Andy he has stuck to his guns about what he said but it is understandable he wishes he hadn’t given way to the temptation to speak out. I bet he realised the minute he had pressed ‘send’ the s*** would hit the fan and the furore that would ensue.

    Early in his career Henman advised him the less you say the better and for years he stuck to that advice. So much so he was seen by many as taciturn and uncooperative in interviews. This subject often came up on Tennistalk and on one occasion caused Deuce to write one of my favourite comments from her. I quote from memory:
    ‘What none of you lot seem to realise is Andy is Scottish and therefore English is his second language: just be grateful you got more than two words in a row from him’.

    It strikes me the press have been extremely supportive of Andy. I haven’t detected any ‘forked tongues’ at work.

    • @ed251137, my forked tongue comment is a comment on the seemingly different interpretations of what Andy said, in the same interview, by the BBC (as reported in @nadline10’s link) and the Guardian (as reported in my link above).

    • I hope this is not a decision Andy will live to regret. I’ve suspected for some while all has not been harmonious in his camp since Mauresmo’s arrival.

    “Sometimes you can just tweak something in a match and after some treatment in the evening, some rest and a good night’s sleep you can be fine. We’ll need to wait and see, but I’ll have a scan to check to see if there is anything there.”
