Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz may have already ended the Point of the Year debate in their semifinal showdown at the Miami Open on Friday night.

With Sinner serving at 4-2, 0-15, two of the game’s brightest young stars played a point that will not soon be forgotten. Both players took turns having the other one on the ropes before Sinner ended it in spectacular fashion with a cross-court backhand pass.

Alcaraz, who is looking to complete the Sunshine Double having already triumphed in Indian Wells, eventually broke back in that game and went on to take the first set in a tiebreaker.

  1. I’ve been watching to see if there’s a difference in quality from the big 3 when they were on.

They serve with less precision, the hut a lot more shirt balls that would get punished and they miss a lot of opportunities.

That would get punished by the bug 3 and decide the outcome of the match.

Long way to go still before they’re that level where one missed opportunity can decide the match

    • and their movement is nowhere near that level. Sinner in particular, plants himself and fires away. That would get exposed by the top 3.

  2. Medvedev is another beneficiary of timing. He’s lucky Fed wasn’t around. Fed would’ve picked apart his forehand and weakness moving forward to the short ball and around the net. The H2H would be about 10-1 I reckon.

  3. Sinner wins Miami

It’s difficult to know who will win more majors out of these 2.

A wild guess is probably about 10 each. You’d have to assume that we are yet to see some of the other future contenders.

I certainly don’t think Alcaraz will be winning circa 30 like Ricky is predicting.

  4. …and Nole is #1 from next Monday even as part time tennis player, scary, what’s next, to walk on the water?!

If he can have reasonable good season onwards, he might as well stay #1 until after USO, doesn’t have much points to defend, apart of Rome.

Spaniard is hyped way too much, we all know who was the real #1 last year, and not because he couldn’t play certain tournaments, that was his choice, but because the stole his 2K Wimbledon points!

  5. That whole first set was captivating tennis…not just that one, incredible point….proud of both players….but still picking Med in 2.
