First-round action in Rotterdam will wrap on on Wednesday, when Tallon Griekspoor faces Matteo Berrettini in front of the home crowd. In the second round, Hubert Hurkacz is going up against Jiri Lehecka.

Matteo Berrettini vs. Tallon Griekspoor

There is no doubt that the ABN AMRO Open is Griekspoor’s favorite tournament on tour. The 43rd-ranked Dutchman has benefited from home-court advantage to the tune of back-to-back semifinal showings in 2023 and 2024, losing only to Jannik Sinner on both occasions. Griekspoor is a fantastic indoor hard-court player in general, with 68 such victories throughout his career.

Up first for the 28-year-old on Wednesday is Berrettini, whom he has never faced. The 33rd-ranked Italian is off to a slow 1-2 start this season and he has never been great indoors, with a 36-29 record. Berrettini is certainly dangerous on every surface, but a slower court gives him time to hit his inconsistent backhand much more effectively. Griekspoor should be able to exploit that weakness in faster conditions and continue his winning ways in Rotterdam.

Jiri Lehecka vs. (8) Hubert Hurkacz

Hurkacz and Lehecka will be going head-to-head for the second time in their careers when they meet in the second round on Wednesday. Their only previous encounter came at this same Rotterdam event 12 months ago, with Hurkacz surviving a 6-3, 6-7(9), 7-6(9) thriller.

Another fun one should be in the cards. Hurkacz is very good indoors–and everywhere, really–and opened with a 6-3, 6-2 rout of Flavio Cobolli on Monday. Lehecka already owns 52 indoor match wins in the relatively early stages of his career and he dismissed Alexei Popyrin 7-5, 6-2 on Tuesday. The 24th-ranked Czech is a big step up in competition for Hurkacz, as Cobolli is less than 100 percent physically at the moment and has been struggling bigtime in 2025. Don’t be surprised if Lehecka pulls off a minor upset to avenge last year’s loss.
