  1. Pretty boring.

All four top seeds making semis. 1 over 4 and 2 over 3 then 1 over 2 in the finals.

When is the last time that’s ever happened?

    Too easy.

    I like Tiggy’s picks better.

  2. Ricky,

    Thanks for the picks.

I am not sure that it will play out this way. I expect that there may be some upsets along the way.

Berdy and Tsonga going out in the third round? Not all that surprising. I still do not think that Stan will get to the semis. On paper I get the pick. But I just have a feeling that he won’t go that deep.

  3. Here’s what Thiem after his Nice title defense:
“It’s been an unbelievably great week,” said Thiem. “The first time I had to defend a title and I made it. Maybe I played better in the three matches before this, but a final is always special. You have so much to win and so much to lose. I played a solid third set and I’m really happy. My arm is a little tired, but I will be ok for Roland Garros on Monday.”

Taking Thiem to the fourth round where he loses to Rafa. (same as Ricky)
A little surprised to see Cuevas in Ricky’s QF. Hm…maybe I should re-examine my bracket. I picked Tsonga to the QF with a lot of doubts about getting past Sousa.

      • …unless Andy arrives to the final after a tough 5 set match with Stan, like Ricky picked. I’m not all that sure about Stan being there. More convinced Andy will make it and take out Stan in 3 or 4.

Nole/Rafa semi will go the distance — my guess.

        • rc,

That is what I am concerned about. Rafa and Novak battling in a tough match and neither guy having anything left for the final.

I just don’t know if Stan can find his form again. If he does, then he could be a formidable opponent.

          • Nny,
It’s tough to guess. On paper, I have to agree with Ricky, Nole’s draw looks like he possibly could make the semi without losing a set. But it only takes a bad day — margins are small even though it looks like a cakewalk to the semi.

Rafa: I don’t see Groth or Bagnis getting a set. Fognini could lose to Berankis or Mahut – he has been terrible since his abdominal injury — and Rafa isn’t vulnerable like last year. Thiem will be wasted by the 4th round if he makes it there — he’s overplayed. That leaves Tsonga, Goffin, Kohls, or Sousa. Rafa should be fine for the semi! Goffin is probably the trickiest of that bunch this year.

The best outcome is that the Rafole doesn’t go the distance. One of them make the final and that one will need to be sharp.

    • I thought at least one person might pick Rafa. It appears that Rafa having a potential meeting with Novak in the semis, had taken him out of contention for the ESPN experts. They don’t think that rafa can take him out.

Also, both Novak and Murray got good draws. Rafa’s is tougher.

  4. Cant argue with the picks. Rafa for the win if djoko is out of the way. Djoko for a straight sets win if having to face rafa

  5. I know 1 thing. Whoever gets out of that Rafa/Nole semi won’t have a bunny like Ferrer waiting in the final like 2013. Murray or maybe Stan will actually have chances and belief for the final imo.

  11. Good call Benny. Cecchinato put up an amazing fight to the bitter end after taking first two sets to TBs. I have to admit (although reluctantly lol) Curious was playing well but to my surprise didn’t overpower the Italian who should be proud of his performance. The great thing about the Slams is one often gets really good matches in the early rounds which this was in spite of the tiresome behaviour from Curious.
