  1. Where the seeds (and other worthy mentionables) fell by quarter with career wins over Nole/Fed in brackets:

    Nole:
Top 3: Murray, Tsonga, Isner (16/17)
Other Seeds: Kohlschrieber, Benneteau, Verdasco, (GG)Lopez
    Notables: Stepanek

    subStandard:
Top 3: Raonic, Nishikori, Robredo, (3/3)
Other Seeds: Youzhny, Chardy, Mayer, Rosol
    Notables: Vesely, Kyrgios, Pospisil, Coric

    Berdy:
Top 3: Ferrer, Cilic, Gulbis, (6/2)
    Other Seeds:Simon, Anderson, Giraldo, (F)Lopez
Notables: Hewitt, Johnson, Donsky, Thiem, Janowicz

    Maestro:
    Dimitrov, Gasquet, Fognini (2/2)
Other Seeds: Monfils, RBA, Karlovic, Sousa
    Notables: NONE

Top 3 seeded opponents ,and notables/young guns (or absence thereof) in each quarter says it all.

So shocker then that this “random” draw has top three opponents have a combined 17 wins over Nole (more than double the other 9 Top 3 seeds combined with 7).

And Top 3 seeds in Fed’s quarter have a combined two career wins, the lowest in the groups. Compare that to the Top 3 seeds neatly placed in Djokovic’s quarter who just so happen to have a whopping combined 16 wins over Fed.

Oh, and super slick courts to boot!

    What are the odds.

  2. ^^^^To date I’ve sat on the fence on the subject of massaging the draws. I can no longer escape the Ineluctable evidence: as Fed would say: ‘the title rests on my racquet’.

  3. hawkeye, why are the stands half empty even for the Americans? Was it full for Fed because they didn’t show much of the stands during his match.

    • No at least not for the first set. Americans aren’t big tennis fans. They’d rather watch little league baseball. Many empty seats but Ashe seats around 24,000.

An evening bill with Fed and Serena. Less than half full I’d say.

      • hawkeye63 ( at 4:20 pm),

Yeah, you ALWAYS hurry to rescue Fed!
When there are empty seats during Fed’s match, you say that its Americans’ fault.

When there are some empty seats during Rafa’s matches, you say that its Rafa’s fault – he isn’t popular.

      • I hurry to rescue the truth and some modicum of balance.

So when I call him Punchbag, is that me ALWAYS hurrying to rescue Fed?

Where exactly do I say its Rafa’s fault?

        Hilarious.

—Gussie, just wondering why are you so sensitive about empty seats?—

I am not sensitive about empty seats. I am sensitive about your biased explanations.

      • Gussie why did you conveniently ignore my questions

So when I call him Punchbag, is that me ALWAYS hurrying to rescue Fed?
Where exactly do I say its Rafa’s fault?

You just subjectively attack with bias and no proof just like the federazzi.

I’m wondering why you act just like the federazzi augusta08.

        #NoleFam

      • Nice try. But you accuse me without anything substantive just like the federazzi.

Just wondering augusta08 why you are acting like the federazzi and accuse me of blaming Rafa for empty seats.

Why are you so sensitive about empty seats that you feel the need to falsely accuse me of blaming Rafa with nothing substantive to back up your empty claim?

So when I call him Punchbag, is that me ALWAYS hurrying to rescue Fed?
Where exactly do I say it’s Rafa’s fault?

        #NoleFam

      • But you said Fed ALWAYS commands a huge crowd no matter what. As for Rafa’s 1st rnd match against Golubev, the weather was very bad that year with hurricanes and many ticket holders unable to get to NY. Ticket sales don’t seem to have gone well this year once there was a question about Rafa being there. Later on they will claim that they had record attendance.

      • And where exactly can I locate your revisionism.

I don’t need to as I know I’ve never said it.

Like I thought. You have nothing of substance to back your unsubstantiated claims just like augusta08 the federazzi.

However, I’m truly beginning to think you two actually believe your own twisted interpretation of my posts. Perhaps the federazzi believe their own false claims also.

I’ve backed up my claims. Too bad you and augusta08 can’t do the same.

      • Well I just hope you don’t compare nadline who asks a fair question with someone who falsely accuses me of blaming Rafa with nothing to back it up like the federazzi would. Don’t you? Or do you. No you did. OK. Good.

This is the post where you attacked me and start all of this nonsense. Specifically where you say I ALWAYS hurry to rescue Fed and where you say it’s Rafa’s fault for empty seats and where you say he isn’t popular.

        Not me. Not nadline.

    • I actually agree with this request to have a separate thread for hawkeye and augusta to battle this out over and over again.

I already put my two cents in when this issue came up a while back. I am with hawkeye all the way. I don’t think he’s defending or rescuing Fed or any of that at all. I just think he’s calling it as he sees it and backing it up.

I am really over this business of some accusing other Rafa fans of being federazzi or wolves in sheep’s clothing or any of the things that have been thrown around. Hawkeye is no more blaming Rafa for anything or supporting the federazzi.

Jesus! You don’t notice that Hawkeye says that I am acting like the federazzi! He calls me ‘augusta08 the federazzi’ !

      • Thanks NNY. Should have read Augusta08 and the federazzi.

The destination may be different but the mode of transportation remains the same.

I’m curious augusta08 why yoou and nadline make baseless accusations that cannot be backed up just like the federazzi. When you don’t answer my questions, you only prove my point.

  4. Jeez, it’s not enough that Stan has a OHBH like Fed, he now has to copy his on-court manners as well??

    http://espn.go.com/tennis/usopen14/story/_/id/11422430/stan-wawrinka-advances-us-open-tells-fan-shut-up

“In the heat of the moment, locked in a suddenly tight match after midnight at Flushing Meadows, Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka snapped at a rowdy spectator, telling him to “Shut up.””

Could be that’s the first English phrase they teach up there in Switzerland………….

    • I watched that match and you couldn’t help but hear Stan shouting to the crowd to shut up! That can get you in big trouble with the New York crowd. But the ESPN commies said that there was one guy who was going after Stan repeatedly. I think the crowd actually applauded when he said it and pointed out the fan who was trashing him. They had the supervisor go over there to try and deal with it.

Late matches at the USO can be a little cray-cray. But Stan should try to keep his cool and not act the prima donna.

  5. Kyrgios is likely going to make it to the last 16 or quarters. He has a complete cupcake of a draw. Disgustingly arrogant though.

    • ^^^^@ Mark Gibson.Couldn’t agree more. I’m hoping he will get his comeuppance quite soon. The prospect of too much of his bang, wallop brand of tennis and disagreeable manner is depressing.

    • @Mark Gibson
      +1
Wonder what they put in their corn flakes Down Under?

Such a contrast to the young Canadian prospects on Tour. I absolutely love young Genie Bouchard, such poise, good manners and………..game!
