Following week of Davis Cup competition in the immediate aftermath of the U.S. Open, the ATP Tour returns with the beginning of the Asian swing in Chengdu and Zhuhai. The pair of 250 tournaments will start on Wednesday.
Chengdu Open
Where: Chengdu, China
Surface: Hard
Points: 250
Prize money: $1,152,805
Top seed: Alexander Zverev
2019 champion: Pablo Carreno Busta (not playing)
Following a period of inactivity due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this Chengdu event is back on the schedule for the first time since 2019. It should be a triumphant return, as the field is particularly strong for an ATP 250. Alexander Zverev is the top seed ahead of Lorenzo Musetti and Grigor Dimitrov. Also in the field are Alexander Bublik, Miomir Kecmanovic, and recent Davis Cup stars Dan Evans and Emil Ruusuvuori.
Zhuhai Championships
Where: Zhuhai, China
Surface: Hard
Points: 250
Prize money: $981, 785
Top seed: Karen Khachanov
2019 champion: Alex de Minaur (not playing)
Zhuhai is also back in action for the first time since the inaugural 2019 tournament. Andy Murray was undecided on his participation in Asia after he lost at the U.S. Open, but the 36-year-old Scot is good to go and finds himself in a Zhuhai draw that also features Karen Khachanov, Cameron Norrie, and Sebastian Korda. Khachanov has played only one match since the French Open and the second-seeded Norrie is in a slump, so this title looks completely up for grabs.
