Wozniacki speeds to 3:26 at New York City Marathon, Twitter reacts

Caroline Wozniacki has been busy over the past 10 months playing her way to one of her best seasons on the WTA Tour. Somehow, though, she had time to not only train for a marathon but also to run one extremely well. Wozniacki did just that on Sunday at the New York City Marathon, which she completed in three hours and 26 minutes–an outstanding marathon time even for serious, dedicated runners. Run that as a full-time, year-round professional athlete in a different sport and what you have on your hands is an absolutely incredible feat of athleticism.

Wozniacki crossed the finish line in exactly 3:26:33. For those counting, that’s an average mile pace of 7:53.

The accomplishment came barely a week after Wozniacki wrapped up her WTA season in Singapore. That’s where the Dane’s final match of 2014 came against Serena Williams (a thriller that ended in a third-set tiebreaker). And it was Serena, seemingly Wozniacki’s best friend on the women’s tour, who was there to greet her friendly tennis rival when she finished. The two had also palled around New York earlier in the week, including attendance at a Rangers hockey game on Saturday night.

Serena was among a plethora of players, coaches, and commentators who congratulated Wozniacki on Twitter:

  1. I hadn’t realised until today she ran the NY marathon on the weekend she had been due to get married. What a brilliant piece of oneupmanship on her part 😀

I trust she’s exorcised the ghost of that cad McIlroy once and for all.

All women who have been s*** on from a great height should take note!!!!!!!!!!
