Winston-Salem SF preview and prediction: Coric vs. Baez

Borna Coric and Sebastian Baez will be going head-to-head for the first time in their careers when they battle for a place in the Winston-Salem Open final on Friday.

Coric, who is the No. 1 seed, has been struggling this season so it’s no surprise to see him putting in a big effort in Winston-Salem even with the U.S. Open on the immediate horizon. The 29th-ranked Croat has advanced this week with victories over Rinky Hijikata, Michael Mmoh, and Juan Manuel Cerundolo.

Baez needed three sets against both Daniel Elahi Galan and Aleksandar Vukic before crushing Laslo Djere 6-3, 6-0 on Thursday. Prior to arriving in Winston-Salem the 42nd-ranked Argentine had not played on hard courts since Miami and had not won a hard-court match since Indian Wells.

On a hard court (instead of clay, for example) this one should be all Coric.

Pick: Coric in 2
