  1. Rafa ain’t beatin the Rastafari.
    Milos ain’t beatin the Stanimal.
Murray ain’t winning the whole thing.
I see Stan hitting them all off the court with his new found confidence.

    • filter, I agree that stan is a very big challenge but his chances of reaching the semis are not as strong as Nole’s . Plus, it will be a tad easier for opponents to rush stan into errors on grass and the movement on grass is always tricky. But I agree that if stan gets rolling, he will be a very very difficult opponent for all players.

  2. I agree! Really? Sorry, it’s not gonna happen. Rafa is not going out in round three and especially not to Troicki! I know he’s been having his troubles, but I see no reason for him not to get to at least the fourth round and even the quarterfinal.

  3. Rafa may lose to anyone if he is inconsistent. Unless he recovers his lethal forehand he will be the subject of another Rosol type video at Boodles next year. If Rafa is in form, he is invincible. Vamos Rafa! Let us see that forehand again and strike fear into the hearts of rivals like Djoker, Andy and Fed and others like Stan who are not rivals but seem better than they are because our lion was wounded.

    • wow…0 for last 11 is huge anyway…..but he seems to have come out of his slump just at the right time: Wimby time!

      • ^^^@2.40am
•he seems to have come out of his slump•

Djokovic borrowed a leaf from the Federer manual of mind games in a pre-Wimby interview the other day when he he said dismissively ‘I’ve beaten him the last 8 times we’ve played’.

True he did not perform at his best for a long time after his surgery. But this was more from concerns about his back than being in a ‘slump’.

I’m in the camp that believes he will make it to the final and it is by no means a given that Djokovic will.

  4. What about Stan’s chances for winning RG? He wasn’t even supposed to beat Fed. You never know even when the recent history may be in the other player’s favor.

Murray is playing quite well now. He will be very motivated this time at Wimbledon. He’s already made the AO final and the RG semifinal. There is no reason why he can’t win Wimbledon this year. Things change.

  5. Dont count out the magician Federer on his favorite surface. He still believes that he can win and his preparation was solid. He’s playing better than last year when he reached the finals ánd lost to Nole. Beating a fit Federer on Wimbledon is still for everybody a tough task.

  6. Intriguing draw with no clear favourite!

Nole has to deal with a whole lot good grass court players from the get go, Federer susceptible to off days over long duration & also facing a tricky draw, Stan and Rafa having question marks over their grass court form.
Muzz appears to be the only shoe-in for the QF, but if the draw does play out the way it should, I don’t think he will be able to beat the other 3 of the ‘Big 4’ successively especially when he has lost his last 11 matches to 2 of them. His best chance to win the title would be if the draw opens up like USO’12 or Wimby’13.

For me, if Roger is in his element over the next 2 weeks, he has a great chance to win the whole thing.

  7. troicki over rafa in 5! the second round match between either brown or lu is the big danger match. brown can play crazy tennis when he’s ‘on’ and lu is a very good grass-courter who beat berdy in wimby……i’d rather he played lu but that’s still a danger match given rafa’s problems in the early rounds of slams. if he gets through that one then i don’t see him losing to troicki unless he has a melt-down on the nerves front.

  8. if stan gets to the quarters then he won’t be losing to raonic either! if he’s got that far that means his game is on and he’s a danger man for anyone…..
anyone else notice the similarities in the draw between now and 2013??? then, everyone was going on about murray having to play both rafa and fed…they both went out and he had a clear run to the final. by the same measure, that year djoker had a big power player in the form of delpo in the semis who was mainlining the ball and knocking djoker backwards so that at the end of the match he looked like he’d gone 12 rounds with Mike tyson. this year he’s got stan and that could be exactly the same kind of match with djoker getting smashed back and having to lunge from side to side. end result could well be the same….murray against djoker with djoker having gone 5 and being beaten up……championship murray!!

    • In 13, Murray would not have had to play both Rafa and Fed. Rafa/Fed were scheduled to play in qtrs. Murray would have had to play only 1 of them.

This time, it is Fed in Murrays position.

  9. I think Rafa will not be loosing in early rounds this time…he’s been losing matches mentally and it can happen again but I don’t think Rafa will allow it to happen…he has no pressure…expectations are low and if losing early nobody will be surprised…it’s Rafa’s least favorite surface after all…I however do not think Rafa will reach semis…if he does I would be the happiest person on earth..but qtrs might happen…I feel good that Rafa is playing and is injury free…the rest will come…I expect Rafa doing wonders in American swing…Wimby’s semis is just too much to ask from this Rafa…

    • Natashao, agree with your sentiments but I think if Rafa reaches the semis somehow, he will not stop there and go on to reach the final at least…

      • I agree with natashao’s comments. I think it’s just being realistic given Rafa’s troubles.

However, I think vamosrafa and hawkeye both make a good point that if Rafa can beat Andy in the quarterfinals, then he has a good shot in the semis. It will mean that he’s playing well if he gets past Andy.

    • True…the draw looks good for Rafito..I only wish he starts believing he can go far on grass…Toni is encouraging Rafa with his tone…he knows Rafa needs some confidence push…deep inside I share your thoughts on Rafa that he would be hard to beat if he reached semis…that would mean he is back mentally…but I am so afraid that if I articulate what I believe or hope to happen I would jinx my boy…so instead I will act content with quarters…
I know that Rafa set the target to win one GS per year…this means he will fight for this one…and for sure he needs some luck…so far at least with the draw the luck is there and the sun seems to be shining again…also the weather expected to be sunny which favors Rafa…and finally I hope the first round matches before Rafa’s are each five- setters so that the courts get ruined… 🙂

      • even the heat is coming up from Spain this week natashao and it will be 32C in London by wednesday…let’s hope that rafa will benefit from the ‘home’ conditions….!
like you, I am trying not to jinx him by looking ahead…..
i really really hope that brown/lu goes five sets and that whoever wins is gassed for when they play rafa…that’s the match that is worrying me…..

      • There is nothing called jinxing or anti jinxing. What is destined will happen.

If Rafa is destined for Wimby 15 or even crossing 17 slams, it will happen come what may.

      • It is. So much for the grand conspiracy against Rafito. Maybe he should stay at 10. ;). Really couldn’t have asked for better. So no excuses. I think Murray is winning this over Djokovic. He’s a better grass courter and if he could play Novak as close as he did at the French he has an excellent chance here.

      • How did Federer avoid Isner, Raonic, Karlovic, Anderson, Kyrgios servebots in his quarter?

        Amaaaazing!!!!

No one is talking about Federer’s standard cakewalk to the qtrs.

  10. Rafa’s draw has become easier with Ferrer withdrawing due to injury. However, playing Andy in the quarterfinals would not be considered easy.

What I do think now is that Rafa’s path to the quarterfinals is definitely doable. Even with the prospect of facing either Brown or Lu in the early rounds, I believe the best of five set format gives him a better chance.

I remember very well how Rafa had to fight in the early rounds in the 2010 Wimbledon with Haase and Petz as back-to-back opponents. He was down two sets to one against Haase and had to fight back and win it in five sets. He also had to beat Petz in five sets. At that point many were not thinking he had a chance to win Wimbledon. But he proved them wrong.

Even if Rafa has a battle or two in the early rounds, if he can just get the wins and make it through to the second week he just might be in good enough form. It’s all about the mental aspect for Rafa because he is healthy this year.

    • Sanju,

I looked up those two matches online. Here are the scores –

      Rafa v Haase Second round

      5-7,6-2, 3-6, 6-0, 6-3

      Rafa v Petz Third round

      6-4, 4-6, 6-7, 6-2, 6-3

In both matches Rafa was down two sets to one and had to come back and win it in five sets.

  11. sanju, I am looking at this draw with 0 expectations but with hope. I believe in destiny just as you do. If Rafa is destined to win this slam, nothing will stand in his way. If not, then anyone can trip him up. Who would have dreamt that Nole would be thwarted by Stan in his RG aspirations? Here was Nole who for years had been thwarted by Rafa and it seemed if he could get past Rafa, the trophy would be his. But Stan was destined to win and Nole wasn’t.
I love Rafa no matter what and his struggles make his victories, when they come, all the more sweet.

      • hawkeye, of course, Rafa is the best! Were you looking for a pun, probably on my supposed moniker? Like all those puns on carrie? Hilarious!! You guys definitely sounded comical and delusional congratulating each other on your puns and songs on carrie when carrie isn’t me!!!!!
As I mentioned elsewhere, a fit Rafa is invincible. Therefore whenever he loses, it proves ( yes, proves!!!) that he was injured. It is an axiom of faith : A fit Rafa cannot be defeated.

      • Biggest fan, maybe. confused fan, no. The honor goes to vr who claims to be a Rafa fan but hands down pompous edicts ( not based on stats or facts) that Rafa is not the best, all his rivals are better and Stan ( not a rival) is the best clay courter!

        • Ah yes. Cherry picking out of context quotes straight out of the cheap to box of the amateur troll.

As Stanley the great clay courter himself would say… Fail. Fail again. Fail better.

          Hilarious!

    • Exactly Mary.

What is meant to happen will happen. Rafa just needs to try and give his best, after giving his best if it does not happen, it was never meant to be His.

      • Wow, and I thought I was being superstitious 🙂
I saw some good signs in Rafa’s game in Stuttgart. I chose to think that there is no reason for his game to deteriorate in London..he will be motivated and sure the five-set framework helps…I hope the stars align for my boy…he really deserves it after all he’s been through this year…
        Vamos Champ!

  12. natashao,

    You are fine! 🙂

I agree with you about seeing good signs in Rafa’s game at Stuttgart. He was consistently good in every match right up to the final and that’s why he won.

It’s all about the mental aspect. Things have been so up and down and just when we thought maybe Rafa got back on track, he lost to Dolgo in the first round at Queens. That’s why it’s so hard to know what to expect from him at Wimbledon. I actually thought that he had a good shot to go deep last year at Wimbledon. He was looking good in the early rounds even as he was up against one big server after another. Then he bumped up against Kyrgios and couldn’t get a bead on that serve. So that was it.

All we can do is cheer him on and hope for good things! 🙂

    • We sure will…even if we do not qualify as true fans… 🙂
We all gather here to support our boy…every win will be celebrated from the heart ❤
      Vamos Rafa!

  13. #“I don’t give a damn,” Nadal said. “I try and play my best tennis, and the least of my concerns is to know if I’m favoured or not. These are words that will be carried away by the wind. What will stay is my tennis, my match, and who is going to win the match. That’s reality. But the rest is speculation beforehand.”

Did they really think you are carrie? i missed all that because I was away for the WE. Everyone knows I’m carrie not unless they think nadline is Mary. I would suggest they don’t give up the day job.

    • They also try and weave in anyone who has beaten Rafa into their conversation no matter how remote it is to the match they are supposed to be commentating on and this business about Djoker would have been heading for the calendar slam if he had won RG is another non comment that is meaningless. He didn’t win RG AND NEVER HAS! Anyone who wins the AO has a chance to hold all 4 but usually hits the buffers at the FO because they have to get past Rafa and Rafa only dropped his guard this year for the 2nd time in 11 years.

  15. Now that Djoker has been outed on coaching they all say it goes on all the time and it’s no big deal. Had it been Rafa they’d be gunning for higher penalties.

  16. Exactly. Stopped counting how many times they’ve talked about how much fighting for the FO title took out of him and how he needed to rest before Wimbledon. Failed to mention Rafa has managed the Channel Slam twice plus Queen’s in 2008

      • June 30, 2015 at 2:31 am,

I am wondering WHY hawkeye63 ignores the FACT that U.Toni has admitted he says only ENCOURAGING words (Vamos! Move your legs!).

I am wondering WHY hawkeye63 has desperately tried to suppress (by posting huge amount of irrelevant Replies ) this comment:

  17. The young British player Liam Broady has made a promising debut at his first Wimbledon beating Matsovic coming back from two sets down.

  18. Hewitt putting on a show. If he goes out it will be with a BANG

Sad did think this is his last Wimby.

    #ClassicLleytonStuff

  19. I was watching Hewitt and Neiminen. Yes, this is his last match at Wimby. That was quite the battle.

Now Nishi will go to a fifth set against Bolelli. Didn’t see that one coming. But Bolelli is playing quite well. They just switched to that match after Hewitt’s match ended.

  20. I think Rafa will make the quarters where he will lose to Andy Murray.
If he beats Murray, he might be win it all. But that looks like a bit of long shot

  21. Yes, I don’t expect Jarkko to give Novak much trouble at all. That five set battle had to take it out of him.
