Daniil Medvedev will continue his U.S. Open campaign against tricky opponent Fabian Marozsan during second-round action on Thursday. Sebastian Korda impressed in round one and will face Tomas Machac.
Fabian Marozsan vs. (5) Daniil Medvedev
Medvedev is back on his U.S. Open stomping grounds, where he has enjoyed all kinds of success throughout his career. With a title in 2021 and two runner-up performances, this is undoubtedly his favorite tournament. Medvedev picked up another win in New York in mostly routine fashion on Tuesday evening, beating Dusan Lajovic 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Up next for the world No. 5 is a first-ever meeting with Marozsan. The 51st-ranked Hungarian is a borderline Masters 1000 specialist, with two quarterfinal results and a pair of fourth-round finishes. Marozsan, who has been solid but unspectacular at Grand Slams in the early stages of his careers, outlasted Hamad Medjedovic in five sets on Tuesday. Coming off a tough match and facing Medvedev at what is the Russian’s best event is not an ideal recipe for the underdog.
Pick: Medvedev in 3

Tomas Machac vs. (16) Sebastian Korda
Korda and Machac will be going head-to-head for the second time in their careers. Their only previous encounter came four years ago on the indoor hard courts of the Eckental Challenger, where Korda got the job done 7-6(0), 6-1.
Fast forward to 2024 and this could be a high-quality encounter between two players who have made significant strides. Korda is up to No. 16 in the world and just won the biggest title of his life at the ATP 500 in Washington, D.C. The 24-year-old American maintained his fine form by trouncing Corentin Moutet 7-6(3), 6-1, 6-0 in the opening round. Recent results for Machac include an upset of Novak Djokovic en route to the Geneva final and a gold-medal in mixed doubles at the Paris Olympics with Katerina Siniakova. However, the 39th-ranked Czech was just 2-7 in his last nine singles matches prior to beating Fabio Fognini on Tuesday. Korda is the more consistent player right now and should take care of business with home-court advantage.
