Sydney QF predictions, including Dimitrov vs. Dolgopolov and Tomic vs. Gabashvili

Quarterfinal action in Sydney will take place on Thursday. Defending champion Viktor Troicki is continuing his campaign, while Grigor Dimitrov, Alexandr Dolgopolov, and Bernard Tomic are also still alive.

(3) Viktor Troicki vs. Nicolas Mahut: This has already been an outstanding week–one of the best of his career away from grass–for Mahut, who had to qualify just to get into the main draw. But Troicki is the defending champion and coming off a blowout of Tommy Robredo. Troicki in 2.
Troicki 1
(6) Jeremy Chardy vs. Gilles Muller: Neither man has dropped a set this week. At least two sets will have to be lost by someone on Thursday, and that may be a result of tiebreakers. Expect very few service breaks, with a slight edge going to a well-rested Chardy. Chardy in 3.

(8) Alexandr Dolgopolov vs. (4) Grigor Dimitrov: This is obviously the popcorn match of the day in Sydney. Dolgopolov’s extensive effort last week at the Hopman Cup may end up being a factor in this one, which won’t be short on entertainment. Dimitrov in 3.

(1) Bernard Tomic vs. Teymuraz Gabashvili: Much unlike Sam Stosur, for example, Tomic thrives playing in his home country. He finished runner-up at this event in 2014 and may be on his way to the title this time around. Tomic in 2.

  1. Muller in three and Mahut in three (going with some bold ones here) I still don’t totally trust Troicki and Mahut is the type who can take advantage of a bad day and throw someone off with his game.

  2. Can’t take another minute of this!
14 minute game, Dog trying to hold serve and Grigor finally got the break 🙁
Fingers crossed for a Dimichoke at some point soon.
