Lorenzo Sonego captured the fourth ATP title of his career and denied Alex Michelsen his first with a dominant 6-0, 6-3 victory in the final of the Winston-Salem Open on Saturday afternoon.

Sonego has lifted his trophy on all four different surfaces. Prior to this triumph on outdoor hard courts, the 29-year-old Italian prevailed on grass (Antalya 2019), on clay (Cagliari 2021), and on indoor hard courts (Metz 2022).

“It’s a crazy week for me, for my team for my family,” Sonego said during the post-match ceremony. “I brought my game every day. I’m really proud of myself. I will enjoy this moment with my team and then I’ll start to think about the U.S. Open.”

Michelsen is now 0-3 lifetime in ATP finals, having twice been a runner-up on the grass courts of Newport. The 19-year-old American was one point from the title earlier this summer but ended up losing to Marcos Giron.

Sonego will face Tommy Paul in round one at Flushing Meadows on Tuesday night. Michelsen will go up against fellow American Eliot Spizzirri, also on Tuesday when the top half of the draw is in action.
