  1. Muchova playing really well to get to play Paolini on Monday. Mad entertainment factor.
If only Karolina could have stayed injury free and played this year. I love her and her game. I like Jasmine but will be rooting for Karolina.
    PS couldn’t find Ricky ‘s WTA preview…

  2. Also, love Karolina Muchova’s smooth tennis and took her deep enough to question my loyalty to WTA #1.
Saba is, of course, the serious bettor’s fave.

      • Not doing too bad here…she could beat Paolini( hope not , I picked her)
Agree about the temperate climate here in NI…it’s raining again, but we hardly see twenty degrees

        • It’s generally been around 20 here. Perfect for me. I hate extreme heat.
Definitely rooting for Karolina but maybe a step too far forher.

        • Geez, Big Al!

I see that you are co-leading with ToMMo87 in the ATP Bracket and miles ahead in the WTA. It’s great to see your expert picking each week!
It’s an honor to have you in Jalep_Wildguess!

Yes, amy! I would gladly move to GB, NI, or…Nova Scotia would possibly be less expensive. But I need an invitation or recommendation of some kind. Even Poland or Finland sound nice. I would like the months of darkness, I admit, at the risk of sounding weird.

          • I don’t know how the invite thing works Elizabeth… Generally speaking it’s very difficult to get residency in many countries now.
I am very attracted by Scandinavia. All the countries there would be great to live in. But even they have barriers to moving there I think..

  3. Hi Elizabeth!!
Will stick around as much as I can but moving again on Thursday which definitely entails using the f word.
You have some of my faves ie Losing my Religion which I know by heart and is pure poetry.
    I like Crazy as well.
Been listening to Tracy Chapman Fast Car and fabulous version of My Baby Shot me Down by Lady Gaga. Give it a listen!
Was listening to Old Love by Eric Clapton earlier today for nostalgia’s sake.
Will listen to your playlist!! Ta very much!

    • The Lady Gaga version is live from jazz at Lincoln Center. There are several videos of her covering the song but this one is by miles the best imo. Gives me chills.

      • Hello amy!
The first link was supposed to be Neutron Dance by the Pointer Sisters!
I’m sorry that the link went directly to my YouTube playlist page.

But you might actually like some of my playlists. I remember you also like Suzanne Vega. My Joni Mitchell playlist – a mix of songs from favorite Joni Mitchel albums you might enjoy too.

YouTube wants me to monetize my playlists. I was like what? I don’t post to make money on YouTube!! My playlists are free and if someone enjoys some of the playlists, great! I create playlists for my own enjoyment and if they have an issue with content, then make my page private; I am not on Youtube Premium to cater to children, some of my songs do have adult lyrics. But they edit my lists anyway and I notice many have been made public. Oh well, it’s impossible to create playlists with their original videos like it used to be. I notice they monitor my youtube premium channel that I pay a monthly fee to have up-graded because the sound is better. But also agree that regulations are there to safeguard the families with underage kids.

Messes up my Radiohead favorite video’s. I’m fine with it.
But the toxic smoke in Boise is something different this year. I have a continual sore throat, low grade headache requiring at least 2-3 doses of Advil per day, and my mouth and eyes are dry and itchy. I grew up with smoke from forest fires in Northern Idaho, the smoke itself did not smell like garbage the way it does in 2024. Forest Fire smoke is way different now than in the 20th century; 60’s and 70’s! My stash of face masks from thw Covid years are not sufficient in 2024. I must go pay for serious medical grade protection and need to invest in an air purifier.

Sheesh…nowhere to hide at the moment. I’ve too busy surviving for over 3 months to think about politics.

        • Think it was actually Joni Mitchell we discussed Elizabeth!! Not sure about my faves but probably : the hissing of summer lawns; Edith and the king pin; Shades of scarlet conquering; Help me; Court and spark; the Boho dance. Would be great to see your list! Please send a link…
PS have probably forgotten some I really like..

          • Okaym amy. I will try posting a link to my YouTube Premium page here. Maybe you did not like Suzanne Vega, but someone on TG did. Her album, “Solitude Standing,” from, I think, 1986, didn’t have a track that needed skipping 😀

Email to Email is how I share with friends; yes, I do have friends, but not in Boise, except one. And he was a neighbor from New York that I cherished, but he had to move back to the East Coast last year.

Dear God, it’s clear from my bracket picks that U know nothing about the current ATP! There are too many new players in the ATP and WTA and very little time to keep up!

The first two songs, Tom’s Diner and Luka, were played on FM radio the year it came out. But Vega is a poet. Night Vision, Solitude Standing, and Language I’d put on repeat. Every time I play the album, John is in my head – never forgotten.

            amy,
In 1987, my older brother, who was close to me, gave me her album, Solitude Standing, as a birthday present. He always seemed to know what I’d like, especially in music, books, what to wear, and what to do with my hair. I miss him more than ever these days😇and he’s still with me when I go shopping 😀

    • I actually picked Muchova to win the whole US Open last year. But she’s so hard to predict her fitness. Maybe she will do it this time…love her game. She’s so un – carthorse like

      • Eggsactly.
Un-carthorse like should be the standard all the players should aspire to…
She’s the Fed of the WTA with her smooth silky transition game…

        • OK then, that sounds like a preference of Feds game over the brute force physical games of several players I could name…why single out Fritz though?

  4. Two music notes:
1.)Gotta love Joni Mitchell, and have been listening lately to that haunting piano intro to “Woodstock”….so beautiful
2.) Also love Eric Clapton, and our new dog is named after his classic song (and album), “Layla”
….and in the world of tennis, just got back f the US OPEN (Yes, w/Ricky!), and we saw so many great players, more than the year before. Emma Navarro very impresssive, as was Sabelenka…and Woz!

  5. What’s going on with this thread? I tried to reply to Elizabeth but reply wouldn’t work. Tried some other posts as experiment but also couldn’t press reply.

  6. ok post went through. Just not where I wanted it!
Thanks loads for posting about Vega Elizabeth! You’re a pal!
I listened to a couple of tracks you mentioned.
    Solitude Standing is especially haunting.
Sounds like your brother was a great person. Loss is terrible but beautiful memories are still beautiful and stay in the heart forever.

  7. Great to see Scoot posting here and sharing musical taste.
My taste for Joni Mitchell is,WAY too overdetermined by Court and Spark and Hissing of Summer Lawns, 2 albums I have listened to since forever. Really need to listen to more of her stuff..
