Jannik Sinner will not play in the Rolex Paris Masters, as he announced his withdrawal from the tournament on Tuesday because of an illness.
Paris was one of the few events that Sinner failed to win during his late-season hot streak in 2023. Only 90 ranking points will come off the board at the end of the week, because he also withdrew from Paris last year prior to a third-round match against Alex de Minaur. Sinner has already clinched the year-end No. 1 ranking in 2024.
“It’s a very tough announcement,” the top-ranked Italian admitted. “I’m not going to play here in Paris. We came here very early to prepare in the best possible way. After the first practice session, I really didn’t felt good. I also talked with the doctor on Sunday, it’s a virus, what makes you feel better in three or four days.
“Today I feel better already a little bit, but the body is not ready to compete and I still feel very, very weak. It doesn’t make sense to go on court and try to compete for this tournament. [I am very] disappointed because it’s a tournament where I would like to see where my level is at. That was one of my main goals for this week. But unfortunately I cannot make this happen.”
Sinner has been replaced in the draw by lucky loser Arthur Cazaux, who gets a first-round bye and awaits either Ben Shelton or Corentin Moutet.
will rest up for the ATP Finals
Wat so looking forward to watching Sinner play. He is amazing
Paris is too close to the YEC. This year they say its really fast, so would have suited him.
There is tendency in last 1-2 years of speeding up all the courts, Cincinnati and USO were lighting fast this year, Shanghai was always one of the fastest courts, Paris was medium fast but now is fast.
One of the reasons why Alcaraz is not doing well at the tail end of the season and AO, courts are fast with lower bounce, plus indoor.
