Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa still have some work to do when it comes to on-court success, but the other two “power couples” on the ATP and WTA Tours are flying high these days.
Twice already this season Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter have won titles in the same week. It first happened in Acapulco and San Diego, with De Minaur triumphing at the former on Saturday night before catching a flight the next morning in time to see his girlfriend lift the trophy at the latter. They accomplished the double again a week ago in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Nottingham.
Now it is Jannik Sinner and Anna Kalinskaya–a much newer couple–who are up to similar tricks in Halle and Berlin, respectively. Sinner is into the Halle final against Hubert Hurkacz on Sunday, while Kalinskaya will battle either Coco Gauff or Ons Jabeur for the Berlin title.
“I’m just trying to be a little bit as good as him,” Kalinskaya said of Sinner following her semifinal win over Victoria Azarenka on Saturday.
While her boyfriend has soared to No. 1 in the world, Kalinskaya is quietly shooting up the WTA rankings. The 25-year-old Russian is already up to a career high of 24th and she will climb to at least 17th next week even if she loses the Berlin final. Kalinskaya will be No. 16 with a win, passing Azarenka.
