Queen’s Club SF preview and prediction: Berrettini vs. de Minaur

Top seed Matteo Berrettini will battle No. 4 seed Alex de Minaur on Saturday for a spot in the Queen’s Club championship match. The winner will await someone from a rain-delayed bottom half of the bracket.

(1) Matteo Berrettini vs. (4) Alex de Minaur

Matteo Berrettini has positioned himself as a legitimate title contender every time he steps on a grass court. Berrettini’s big, physical game seems to have been tailor-made for lawn tennis. He took out Dan Evans in straight sets on Friday. Evans is a tricky opponent on grass, particularly as he was playing in front of the home crowd. After a tight and entertaining first set, the Italian ran away with the match.

Saturday will be the first meeting between Berrettini and Alex de Minaur. The Aussie has a modest 13-12 record on the year. Of the 13 wins, five of them came with his title in the first tournament of the year in Antalya. Since then, he’s hardly managed to win more than a match or two at a time. Fortunately for de Minaur, he has looked more at home on the grass than he has in months.

Berrettini’s serve and his powerful forehand will give him the edge against most players on grass. De Minaur has played well enough this week to make this one entertaining for the fans, but the No. 1 seed’s form should prove too formidable.

          • I think that was an eagle for Oosthuizen. Or, were they showing footage from a different year? I like to golf. Usually, I don’t watch it, though. US open is an exception.

Big Al, you are allowed to be a Norrie fan. 🍺🍺… and you can have multiple favorites, males and females. I do. But I do want Novak to keep up with Fedal.

          • Yep, that was an eagle for Oosthuizen today! He’s now in a 3 way tie for the lead. (I only follow golf occasionally but today was one of those occasions. Kept thinking about Rafa though. :-))
