Tommy Paul came back from a set and 5-1 in the second deficit to stun Alejandro Tabilo 6-7(2), 7-6(6), 6-2 in round three of the Rolex Shanghai Masters on Sunday night.

Tabilo had five match on his own serve at 5-2 in the second, but he somehow could not get across the finish line. The left-hander from Chile was also two points away from victory a combined three times when Paul served at 1-5 and 3-5 before also finding himself two points from winning at 6-6 in the tiebreaker. Despite all of that, Paul eventually prevailed in two hours and 43 minutes.

It was another rain-soaked day in Shanghai, so there was no play on the outside courts. The other winners were Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Daniil Medvedev. Sinner and Medvedev needed three sets to get past Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Matteo Arnaldi, respectively. Alcaraz defeated Yibing Wu 7-6(5), 6-3.

Paul awaits either Tomas Machac or Aleksandar Vukic in the round of 16.
