The draws for all five tennis events at the 2024 Paris Olympics were revealed on Thursday at Roland Garros.

In the men’s singles bracket, the most notable development is that Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are on a collision course for the second round. Djokovic opens against Australian doubles specialist Matthew Ebden, while Nadal has to get past Austrian veteran Marton Fucsovics.

“My challenge is to be ready to give my best and then we’ll see what happens,” said Nadal, who is coming off a runner-up performance at the Nordea Open in Bastad. “You can’t foresee how things will go, how it’s going to feel on the court, but I try to make things go well. [Fucsovics] is a good player; he always competes very well.”

If the seeds hold to form, the quarterfinal matchups would be Djokovic vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev vs. Taylor Fritz, Carlos Alcaraz vs. Alex de Minaur, and Daniil Medvedev vs. Casper Ruud.

Among those in attendance at the draw ceremony were Olympic medalists Nadal, Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, Elina Svitolina, and Angelique Kerber. Murray has withdrawn from the singles competition, so his final appearance before retiring from tennis will come in men’s doubles with Dan Evans. Kerber also announced on Thursday that the Olympics will be her last tournament.

  1. I watched the great nadal in his recent final, cand it was like watching muhammad ali v larry holmes in boxing, it was sad to see a all time great to being reduced to the opponent, his body not being able to respond to what its brain telling it anymore, xthat applied to ali then and now sadly to nadal, just to a lesser degree with the tennis legend, but nadals only getting beat by injury and father time

  2. Same with Murray, Djokovic, Wawrinka, and everyone else. No big deal. That’s life. Move on, get over it, and enjoy your life. Twenty years is enough at the top level. Time to find a new hobby.
