With Ivo Karlovic three points from the first set and serving for it, Rafael Nadal rifled three consecutive return winners off first serves at 15-15, 15-30, and 30-40. Nadal broke to stay alive in the opener, ended up taking it 7-5, an eventually won the match in a third-set tiebreaker.
